It was Ajax losing 6-2 that was the surprising thing for me. They aren't the team they used to be but it's not often they lose that heavily.

Newcastle being relegated would bring something to the Premier League that's been missing since Leeds - a big club going down that everyone could laugh at. Where's the humour in Stoke or Boro going down? There is none. But the geordies going down, taken down by their Mk3 Messiah, bloody hilarious.

| The prospect of Leeds v Newcastle in the Championship next year is quite exciting. Plenty of other 'big clubs' in that league too, to keep Leeds company.

| Well done Everton to get to wembley with their path to the final is a great achievment, Phil Neville handed his penalty with great dignity and respect. I hope Everton win the cup. Fergie maybe did get hsi selection wrong, I think maybe Ronaldo on the bench would have helped massively, as for the penalty as keith said "you win some you lose some",

| Congratulations to Everton.
It wasn't a great game, IIRC 3/4 shots on target, but it was definitely a game where defences were on top. Vidic was an absolute rock, definitely my MOTM. I also thought Anderson played very well with Gibson in the middle. Scholes again looked a sad and sorry shadow of his former self.
As bitter as this will sound, the FA Cup was the "least" important of our remaining quests, although it would have been nice to win it at Wembley. I also said a few months ago that the FA Cup was potentially the hardest to win, as it was all on one game that could be decided by one mistake, one referee decision or like yesterday on penalties.
After Cahill missed his I thought, this is it, then Dimitar "Anelka" stepped up, shortly followed by Rio "I'll do the same thing" Ferdinand, which fooked our chances. Great penalty by Baines to set Everton on their way.
I personally thought Welbeck should have had a penalty but it's one of those that can go either way, and maybe, just maybe, Moyes' pre-match comments about the ref influenced his decision.
Slightly negative, the large crowd means that the semi-finals won't be taken away from Wembley any time soon, which is a shame for a number of reasons:
1) It's too far for two NW sides to travel.
2) It takes away the magic of the final.
3) It's too expensive.
4) The pitch is possibly the worst in England, it cut up after 10 minutes of the Arsenal/Chelsea game and it was fooking awful for our game.
All in all, although disappointed to be knocked out so close to the final, it will at least stop the press going on about the "untouchables" etc for a while, and the players can settle down and concentrate on the League and Europe.
Good look Everton in the final.

3) Very true thats why the FA rake in the money
4) Just like the Millenium Stadium when Wembley was being built
If 88,000 or so turn up for every Semi though it will never change....play in front of two crowds of 30,000 or so and they might.....so next year we need a Colchester v Chester and a Burton v Accrington FA Cup semi final....that will really stick it to the man!!!!!!

There is nothing to be optimistic about really.
We have won 4 home games out of 16 so far, yet we are meant to win the next 3 from 3.
Hate to say i told you so guys, but i said back in December that with the way Ashley runs the club, i wouldnt be suprised to see us go down, that belief backed up by the rubbish we brought into the club in January to continue to 'shoestring' approach to running a football club.
It's all very well Ashley admitting his mistake to Shearer before Shearer became the manager, but it reminds me of 'shutting the gate after the horse has bolted'. He has ruined the club and taken us into an absolutely precarious position because of his ineptness.

The worst thing for Newcastle fans, if they do get relegated will be Ashley remaining there for at least another season as their value will plummet. There is no way he would get anything like the value what he paid for them.

Is it really that bad?
So if you get relegated, you'll most likely come straight back up again.
With all respect, it's not like you're leeds. We got relegated.........with 100 million worth of debt.

It honestly is.
I see what you're saying mate, but people have found out how hard a task it is to get out of the Championship, especially first time of asking.
Ashley is trying to cut costs, and seems to be doing it at any consequence, tried to run the club on a shoestring, and when there have been funds available they have been spent on below par players like Nolan, Ryan Taylor and Lovenkrands (free transfer).

So many people have been naive about our predicament. Fans, even the chairman couldn't 'entertain' ideas of relegation and right out refused to comment on the sitution, depsite the non-naive fans realising that with the way Ashley is running the club, we were and still are down s*it creek without a paddle.

In some ways the fans are too loyal as with other clubs gates would have dropped and the pressure mounted on the board.

There is only 2 people that would get the reception which would get backsides on seats at St James Park. Alan Shearer and Kevin Keegan.
They have already treated Keegan like crap, so they have turned to Shearer.
Probably part of the reason why they turned to Shearer was to try and increase their popularity which was in the gutter.

| Still don't think Newcastle will go down. Boro and Hull for me. I have thought that Stoke would go down from day 1 and it was only Saturdays win over Blackburn which made me think they will survive. Well done to them. Hull are in free fall and IMO will continue the slide. I thought Sunderland might get dragged into the mire but that was a big win on Sat over Hull.
We certainly go to the wire though.

I still think the more ''passionate'' element of newcastle fans carry some of the blame for the current scenario.
They've forced countless managers out and that lack of stability has contributed.
