Fair play to Donald he has been great for a while now and deserves it, he could stay there for a very long time aswell because he plays a lot of tournaments and always seems to finish very high up.

I watched the golf allday right up until I fell asleep just before the play-off started





I knew listening to Peter Allis allday would make me nod off eventually!

Have followed Donald for the past few tournaments now, and has in reality cost me a few quid by not turning his close finishes into wins.

Thankfully today he managed to convert it despite playing some strange golf for his standards from Friday onwards after a near perfect round on Thursday.

Tom Watson still has it, he won his 14th major last night at the senior PGA championship

So the US Open is upon us tomorrow. I've backed the following:

£1 E/W Goosen @ 60/1 - Always back him in majors and he's won this tournament twice before. Showed some encouraging form this season including a very encouraging 3rd place last time out.

£1 E/W Rock @ 300/1 - Has very little in the way of major form but he won last time out on the European Tour. Hits the ball long which is half the battle around this course. One of the more interesting outsiders IMO.

£1 E/W Woodland @ 90/1 - Don't know much about him but lads on a site I go on are very keen on him.

£2.50 E/W Bubba Watson @ 40/1 - For the life of me I can't figure out why Bubba is such a huge price. He's bang in form and will hopefully have grown up a little from last years tournament. A massive hitter who has improved his short game and he has 2 tournament wins already this season.

£3 E/W Mickelson @ 16/1 - Is in good form at the moment. Has the mentality to stick around and win any major although it hasn't happened for him yet at the US Open. Has 5 2nd place finishes at this tournament and will go close again IMO.

The draw that the USGA has made is shocking, Montgomerie has been going mad on SSN about it and I agree!

They have put all the European players together, a lot of groups of fellow countrymen together. I suppose it could work both ways and they could all feed off eachother and play better, but I reckon it will make it harder to concentrate when they are playing with their mates.

Shame Woods isn't playing because he is always fun to watch(good play or bad) but I wish they would stop going on about him now and concentrate on who is playing.

Not watched a lot of golf in the last few weeks so don't really know who is in form, I hope Mickelson will show up at the top of the leaderboard again because I enjoy watching him and he's one of my favourite players.

Can see the usual suspects being near the top at the end:- Donald,Goosen, D.Johnson, Westwood, I can see Manassero going well aswell.

Mickelson has to be the best player to watch even when struggling just because of the shots/situations he leaves himself and somehow manages to get out of them most of the time. Makes you realise even more just how good Seve Ballesteros was doing the same thing all those years ago with wooden clubs and clubs with nowhere near as much loft or technology!

Any normal player would have been +6 or more in todays round. Its been fun to watch although he'll be thinking WTF in his head

Just noticed Sergio's putter grip! WTH?! I might try that tomorrow. Havent made a putt over 15ft in weeks.

McIlroy is now -10, just the 7 shots clear



The USGA will put the pins in impossible positions at the weekend now to get the scores down!

Only 5 players have ever reached -10 in the US Open in 72 holes, McIlroy did it in 26 holes



Still plenty of time to go though and I still see the winning score being between +2 and -2 if the rain stays away and the greens dry out

Means diddly if he blows up on the last 18 again

The way he's building up a lead he could blow up on Sunday and still be there, he's in brilliant form but surely he can't do it again, surely soon he's going to have a lead and see it through.

You would think so. I'll be gutted if he does! Usually back him but swerved him after that spectacular effort at the Masters. He will win one eventually. Hope for his confidence he does it this weekend as if he blows another huge lead then he is really going to have to do some soul searching.

Silly shot from McIlroy on 18, instead of laying up from an awkward lie he went for the pin and found water, double bogey.

Still a massive lead though
