A word of advice.

Before you decide to judge me on what you know about me and what I have been through I would keep quiet.

As I say to you as well as Shark J it's each to their own,if you decide to follow RL and RU then fine.

I am entitled to my opinion just as much as any person,and I will say to you as well if you don't like my opinions,tough luck.

The problem at Wycombe isn't the council, it's the ambitions of Steve Hayes and/or Wasps to promote Wasps over Wycombe Wanderers by a manner which could be described as underhand. But then as I do know Wycombe fans, I can appreciate that it concerns me more than others!

I too am fairly stunned by Sale's lack of promotion of the Reebok game. I'd be interested in going along were I not occupied with sport already that weekend (taking someone to their first RL game, no less!), but I've seen no mention of prices, nothing in the MEN, or anything. In fact, as I live in Manchester and work in Halifax, I've seen more promotion of Siddal in recent weeks!!!

Obviously you are an educated poster judging by the way you format your posts. However you seem to be lacking in the thinking ability department.

You ask why RL games do not end in 0 0 scores and why there are so many tries compared to RU. maybe i could help.


The pitch is the same size but in RL there are two less players to defend the width of the pitch



In RL the game is about scoring tries as the team who score the most tries will win 99.9 % of the time. In RU the aim is to win possession and territory and to score points ( usually penalties and DGs). regularly the team who scores the most tries is NOT the team that wins



Rl players work harder and play more minutes than RU players . They do not have a 1 minute rest every 90 seconds ( or more sometimes it takes 4 minutes to finish a scrum). When players are tired they are more likely to make mistakes and allow try scoring opportunities.




RL players are far more skilful in handling the ball so much more attacking play takes place which will lead to tries being scored.



And as foor why some RL fans hate RU there are often good reasons for that. I could give many examples but the one that sums it up for me is one that includes my son.

When he was about 9 my ex enrolled him into playing RU at Durham ( against my wishes i wanted him too play RL). I used to accompany him to games or training. I used to talk to some of the dads etc and one day The coaches said that my son had good handling skills but needed to work on other apects of his game. I casually mentioned that WE watched RL and that i had spent a lot of time passing etc with him. Very Quickly he was marginalised and the cordial welcome i had been offered became very much colder. Very soon after that my son stopped attending. That was only 6 years ago.

The class system and discrimination in Rugby still exists.

I do have the thinking ability. You should appreciate it was purely in jest. There was no vitriol to it, it was just a brief summarisation of why I'm not a great fan of League.

Of course I know it's not as black and white as that. But they are the main points that stop me from liking the game over Union. I appreciate there are less players, but I still don't think the amount of tries is justified. I know the ball stays in play longer, but then League prides itself on fitness. So 80 minutes of running backwards and forwards for a few yards shouldn't tire them too much. Plus, it's rare that I see people making too many yards in one go, and once the person is grabbed they have to surrender the ball. So yeah, that's another thing. The fact that you can't win the ball at the tackle.

I think I said enough points praising League though to make you realise I'm not Union's version of cj.

As for the class thing. I'll probably stay out of that as I could go into a massive debate about it. I think class is something League fans think about far more than Union, along with the hatred of the other code. Most Union fans don't care about League, they don't give it a second thought or the time of day. There are a large amount who enjoy it, I'm sure. Plenty of Sale fans go to watch Warrington and Wigan. There are a minority who hate it as much as League hate Union, but it's nowhere near as bitter.

I think the class in Rugby is dependent on where you are. Unlike Football and Rugby League, I think the opposite applies as you go further down the pyramid. In League and Football, as you get towards the amateur game it becomes more working class. In Union it's the other way around. A couple of teams aside - the Premiership is about as mixed as it could get. And this is seen with the strange pricing categories and different types of seats. At Sale we have adult tickets ranging from £10-£47. To me this sums up the mix of people we get. Where I sit, in The Railway End, it's full of people who are just as normal and working class as the next bloke. But I'm sure in the platinum seats it's going to be full of corporates. Newcastle and Leeds are the same. I've never heard anybody called Tarquin speak with plums in his mouth like you might want to believe. I went to Northampton once and stood with the home fans and it was very uncomfortable and intimidating. Gloucester have the most notorious fans in the division, and if rumours are true then they'd even put Hull FC to shame in the idiot stakes.

However, if you go to the lower divisions, that's when I think the proper middle class clubs start to arise. This is of course speculation, but I can tell you first hand that at the games I've been to it has been as mixed in class as anywhere.

Though, to me, in 2011 - I cringe at talk of class. I come from a working class background and all my friends would call themselves working class. Yet, some of them are in their mid 20's and owns houses, are on very good money, own multiple cars etc etc. By definition that isn't working class, and 20 years ago if they had that life style they would be called toffs. I think that although the poor are getting poorer and rich are getting richer - we live in an age where it's sometimes impossible to categorise yourself in a group.

I've heard this a few times, actually, mainly from Leicester fans. And I'm not surprised, because Gloucester is a hole.

I've always been amazed that crappy Gloucester follows the posh sport, and posh Cheltenham follows a working man's sport

I'd say that not all union folk are the same.

Have Italy finally now arrived? The odd win against Wales and Scotland but never beaten anyone else, but I'd never have expected them to do France.

France were poor from highlights I saw but it's a massive step for Italy.

No, I haven't enjoyed it as much as I usually do. Maybe I'm growing up and developing RL tinted specs, or maybe the competition just hasn't been as good. Although my money is still on Wales to win.

Wales? England will win and I think they'll do the grand slam.

They should, however I fancy Ireland to beat them and Wales to beat France and pinch it. Only my thoughts though, and I'm quite often wrong.

Wales would have to hammer France and England would need to be slaughtered by Ireland, the points differential between England and Wales is around 60 plus in England's favour. They've got the actual tournament pretty much sewn up as it stands.

Me neither. And both would be battling not to play at a time which clashes with United being either live or on a dodgy Greek satellite box in Eccles.

As long as Kennedy doesn't get his financial tentacles into the Salford club then I don't see the issue.

Get some rent out of them, create another income stream for Salford to move forward.

A colleague at work, who also works for the RFU, tells a story about Kennedy. Apparently Kennedy's son plays? & was playing in a tournament in the south-west. Kennedy alledgedly asked if he could park his helicopter at the ground. They said yes, for a donation. He gave a tenner.

Haha. I'm not bothered mate. I'm not gonna have a go every time somebody says a bad word about us. I just butt in when people state things like they're facts when they're not. I'm not the biggest pro Kennedy person anyway.

I would rather we didn't move to Salford if I'm honest. Not until there are secure and regular public transport links up there anyway. Otherwise it would be pretty difficult. I think you're all getting a bit carried away though, as going off the Salford forum they generally seem to want it to happen. Kennedy said that he's committed to Edgeley Park and so for the time being I can't see it happening. In terms of a modern, purpose built Rugby ground with good facilities and possibly standing areas then I would be happy for it. But only if it suited both clubs and nobody got a bad end of the stick.

In other Sale news - Manchester United vs Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley has been confirmed as kicking off at the same time as our Reebok Stadium game. There goes our chance of promoting to the whole region! According to our online ticket site there are 3 tiers sold out at the moment. After speaking to a friend I think this basically means we aren't opening those stands as ticket sales aren't too good.
