We've not created anything since the Sarwan out changed decision, in fact we have, an LBW the ball before lunch that was turned down and we didn't challenge.
The ease that Gayle is playing Panesar is a mile away from the way Benn was turning it sideways.

| Very disappointing from the England attack, I think we might have to rethink Broad's inclusion for the next test, right now his batting is better than his bowling.

I can't understand why he was picked ahead of Jimmy Anderson for this Test. Broad just doesn't take enough wickets at this level and his bowling average is over 45. He hasn't done enough to displace Anderson on merit, he appears to be included for his batting which is all wrong. The last four in the batting line up should be the best four bowlers regardless of batting ability, unless you've got two bowlers of such similar bowling ability it doesn't make any difference. We've effectively picked an extra batsman and gone in with only four frontline bowlers.
And Owais Shah has missed out yet again despite a century in the warm-up match, with Ian Bell allowed to add to his litany of unconvincing and ineffective performances when he's most required to make a decisive contribution.

I'd have Shah instead of Bell and Bopara instead of Collingwood, I would have given them the full test series and see how they went.

Because Anderson is frustratingly inconsistent - he either takes a cheap five-for or gets 1-150 and doesn't contribute anything with the bat.
Frankly the best way to strengthen the batting line up is to get Swann in for the ineffective Panesar. He's so scared of getting clubbed out of the ground that everything is getting fired in, which makes it easier to work away for singles.

ENGLISHMEN Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff have set new records after both were snared for $US1.55 million ($A2.37 million) at the Indian Premier League player auction tonight.
Only two Australians - paceman Shaun Tait and Tasmanian George Bailey - were picked up, with the likes of Brad Haddin, Phil Jaques, Stuart Clark and Bryce McGain overlooked by IPL franchises.

Anderson takes more wickets than Broad and his consistency over the last year has improved greatly.
You mean Swann that has contributed next to bugger all with the bat so far? As far as his bowling goes he did okay his only real success was in his first bowling stint against India.

Broad has never taken more than three wickets in a Test innings (although hopefully that may change now he's got a couple today), he bowls almost 50% more balls per wicket than Anderson, and his economy rate is only slightly better.
The selectors seem to have been overly keen to fast-track him into the team at a tender age (with Matthew Hoggard discarded far too readily at an age when the typical fast medium bowler is still at his peak) and keep him there. His batting affords limited balance to the lower order when his bowling has generally been so innocuous.

It's pure speculation!! You have no way of knowing this at all. Maybe the effort and added pressure of opening the bowling has the same effect on Sidebottom and he really would average 50 with the bat too
Really??

England bowled really well yesterday to be fair, I guess yesterday was something like 170-6, which for a whole days play is pretty good. That pitch is going to be a bugger to score on next time round, the likes of Strauss it should be made for, where you get to 100 with 90 singles. KP & The Strokemakers (sounds like a 70's band) need to be patient.
Monty got better as the day went on, he just s his undies when someone like Gayle goes after him.
If, IF, we set them a 250 total, it'll take some getting on that, unless they let Gayle do a Sehweg and knock 80 off it mega quickly.

By the time we've finished off their first innings and knocked off the defecit we'll do well to lead by 150 at close of play today. Unless the final target is under 200 I can't see either side winning. It's unlikely we'll get a big enough lead to declare with enough time to bowl them out a second time.

I'm not too sure, first thing will be to get them out quickly, which we're capable of with Freddie yorkers. Then, bat sensibly and try to negotiate Benn - which didn't look that easy in the first innings. If we do this, and get to tea, say 80 in front, with wickets in hand, it's not beyond the realms for us to have a dash and set a target, more than likely though that with this being the first Test, you play the percentages, take the draw and move onto the next Test, if your 1 down it's different I guess.
Wouldn't it just be England though for Strauss & Cook to lay a platform and then the old 'England Callapse' springs into action.

| Something has to be done about over rates. 12.5 per hour is utterly woeful and the fines and suspensions dished out don't seem to be having any effect. Not sure how I'd approach it exactly, but penalty runs for not meeting the 15 per hour limit has to be investigated now.
