7pm start tomorrow...here's hoping the weather improves...if the bl00dy umpires hadn't have been so wet yesterday we would have had a result - the weather wasn't at all bad when they were sat around for an hour before the start of the abandoned England innings...cricket doesn't help itself sometimes

| It's dark in Old Trafford at the moment.
The rate this rain in coming down it might just put paid to tonight's game.

| Old Trafford really pulling out the stops to ensure Test Match cricket doesn't return to Manchester. Leaking covers? Why couldn't that small area be covered properly? And we complain about the professionalism (or lack of) of the RFL

| To defend the Lancashire ground staff the amount of rain that fell yesterday afternoon was immense. It caused flash floods in areas around Manchester.
They were up against it from when that happened unfortunately and it proved to be the case.

So why was 98% of the ground fine and only a problem in two certain areas that should have been protected by the covers? The drainage seemed to work fine on the ground but somehow water leaked where it should not have. Won't do their chances of getting International cricket back much good.

We've got one of the ODI's against Australia next summer (if it doesn't monsoon it down for 3 solid days again) and Headingley doesn't seem to have been damaged too much from its farcical rained off match earlier in the season so here's hoping OT isn't neither.

Interesting how they can't start a 20/20 game at 8pm with blue sky, but can start a championship game at 10.45am the next day using the same wicket/run ups after overnight rain.

| Does anybody really care about this series?
When the Ashes were on I either had Test Match special on or had the bbc desktop ticker, people at work would be messaging each other when wickets fall etc. None of this stuff goes on when its one day internationals, there are so many that winning or losing one doesn't mean anything, there's always another in a couple of days. Even winning or losing a series doesn't mean anything, I think we went down under a few years back and won a one day tournament but everybody regarded the tour as a disaster.
I'm not one of these stubborn people who refuses to acknowledge one day cricket because its not "real cricket", in the 90s I went to loads of one day finals with Lancashire, I actually thought it was a good set up in the old days when there weren't that many ODIs, you had the Texaco Trophy 3 game series as a warm up to the Tests, that was a good way of getting you into it. But playing a ODI series after the tests have finished.....especially the Ashes....who cares?

| Joe Denly gets injured whilst playing football...yet another one to add to the list of injuries we've got playing football...but they weren't prepared to play a match where it was a bit damp the other night...go figure that one out.

Sums it up perfectly for me.
The ODIs are nothing but a damp squid coming after the Ashes Series, at least if it's before the Ashes it gets a bit of excitement going ready for the main event.

The problem this year was the West Indies series and the T20 World Cup, if the Eng/Aus ODI's had been played before The Ashes, then the Final Test would not be until late September!. There should have been no Windies tour this year and the ODI's could hve been played earlier.
