There lies your problem.
You and the Quins players need to grow up.
(And get over the fact that he'd rather be associated with our club than yours. You've done nothing but badmouth him since he left London - you ought to consider how that looks. You're not fooling anyone).

| So according to the Aussie press we're in for-
Fitzgibbon(missed the boat)
Hindmarsh
Cayless
Webb
Kidwell
Hall
Mason
O'Meely
Poore
Orford
Finch
We're going to have on hell of a big squad next year
Anybody get the feeling they just throw random names in the air and see how they fall?

It may also be that certain Aussie agents are testing the financial water because 'glamour club' Wigan are in town.
The Aussie press will apparently believe anything, but then so will certain posters on here - like Wire-Quinn, who seem absolutely terrified that IL might pull a rabbit out of a hat for us.
Ir's a bit of fun speculation. Nothing more.

Cruncher. When referring to us regarding Aussie signings, could you use the FULL term "CASHED UP GLAMOUR CLUB" please?

| The Aussie RL press is just like the football press over here with regard to rumours -i.e. most are made up by either the paper themselves or a player's agent.
With regards to Mason anybody remember about 18 months ago when he said Wigan had offered him $500,000 a season when we had about 30p left on the cap.

He was going to play for the 30p that season with the remaining $499,999 and 70p to be added on to his wage for the season after
Not a chance of Mason coming i wouldn't think.
Realistically i think we'd have a chance of O'Meely/Cayless but zero chance of Mason/Poore.

"Yes he is, of course he is. Someone will say he's only got a year on his contract, what if they throw cash in?" [/i
If there's one player worth throwing cash at (and Goulding etc) then it's Myler imo. Should we read too much into this or is it just media hype - strange thing for McRae to say though, even if it is just common sense.

| I cannot honestly believe some would not want Mason in our team, the lad would be a sensation, if any Prop in the world fitted the bill for what we need it is him. Big powerfull enforcer who would make the hard yards for fun.
Regards his off field "issues" Mason has generally been no worse or better than most of the players in this country, the difference is over here you can get away with it, over there in the NRL they are under constant scrutiny from the fans and press.

I agree. Though I think that, were we to cobble together the cash, it would have a destabilisng effect on our wage structure, a la Fielden. I'm sure the guy would be hugely expensive. I think it's a pipe-dream.

If we were to go for Myler it would send a signal out to everybody that Wigan are serious about getting back to the top. He's the best young player about at the moment(who's not already at Wigan) and every single club in superleague would like him in their side.
It sounds like he'll be leaving at the end of the year but i'd have Warrington down as favourites for him at the moment and it wouldn't suprise me in the slightest to see him end up at Saints. They've found the money in years gone by for much sought after players and would do again for a player who'll easily replace Long.

I think it could be possible to bring in 2 top class players this offseason with reasonable offers especially when you consider Fielden will be off contract in 2010. After this season we should have a pretty settled team for a few years so i do not envisage us needing to after this season splash out again on big money signings till at least the 2012 season.

Myler is all class, and behind a top pack would be even more effective, but i would be slightly dissapointed if saints went for him as it would show a complete lack of faith in Eastmond/smith and our junior development.
Where would Sam play if you signed him? stand off? would he be happy moving over?

| Lenagan needs to be careful here.
He did exactly the same thing last year when he openly spoke to both UK and Sydney press saying he would be speaking to this player and that player all the time creating headlines and raising fans' expectations before eventually disappointing.
If he's going to do the same thing this year, then he has to deliver.
Mason obviously would be phenomenal, not sure Orford is the way to go considering his age and form. And btw Jonh - you sure there's 'bugger all chance of Poore coming over?'
I know for a fact Wigan are in for him and stranger things have happened. He would be right of the top of my list. Obviously Wigan aren't short of competition for his signature however.

Big call. I rate him but i do not think he will be a top class half whereas i think Myler is. From what i have heard though it does seem likely Myler will end up at Wire.

A lot of teams would want him, but one look at his comments on his st.george profile says he's going nowhere. he wants SOO and rep footy, and has a growing GYM business

I still do not think we will see Justin Poore in SL next season, there are too many NRL clubs in for him and at 24 he has 2 more big contracts in him, the second one may see him come to SL but the first one which he will be looking to arrange for 2010 i am sure will see him remain in the NRL.
I have no doubt we are in for him, i would be angry if we were not but i do not think it is a signing that will come to fruition, much more likely to snare O'Mealy or Mason than Poore.

This has been my contention for a while. I'd love to see Myler at Wigan, but I'm sure it would be a problem for Sam. Tommy has signed a new contract, Riddell is here for another three years. Sam would feel he was in direct competition with Myler for the other spot. I'm sure the plan would be to give both of them regular game time, but would it be regular enough for either? Wigan need to replace Smith with a creative half. If it's an old pro, Sam won't feel that he has no future at the club. So, for once, signing a skilled but older Aussie - someone like Orford or Lockyer - might be a good move.

Personally i feel it will be McIllorum who will be first to suffer should we bring in a half regardless of age.

Sams playing 6 anyway so it wouldn't make a difference. When he's started it's been at 6 with Leuluai at 7 and when he's come from the bench it's been at 6 with Smith at 7.
