At the moment we pay around £200K per year to rent the DW.
The cost of building a new stadium is around £20 million, the equivalent of 100 YEARS rent.

It isn't going to happen, and as long as we have a good agreement for the DW it shouldn't. It's o.k looking at turnover, but you need to look at costs and profit.

How long would it take to recover the £20 million costs of building a stadium?

Plus any increase in revenue from beer sales and othe rmatchday income would be offset against a huge increase in running costs - which we currently do not pay for.

I honestly cannot see how it could be financially viable even over the long term without a third party involvement (like the local authority funding the build etc or without a significant chunk of money from land sales etc as is happening at other clubs) and even then given the length of the season to make a ground pay it would have to be generating income in the off season.

If we're going to build a new stadium then the time is now, with construction companies going bust left right and centre the build cost won't be as much as in previous years.

I had no idea IL owned Oxford United, maybe he sees that club as a major investment, get them competing in a decent Division a flog them to fund Wigan RLs new stadium and dominance for years to come.
