Fair point and I never knew that Sam was on wires books, always thought he started on Wigan’s scholarship, I stand corrected.

| Quote ="The_Enforcer"Im not miserable, im just warning against over hyping a player. What has Bullock done thats so 'great'? Running the ball in determined a couple of times a game and then fading to obscurity is not great. Compare Bullocks contribution to that of Chris Hill when he joined Wire. Hill was a wrecking ball in his early days especially near the opposition line and immediately had an impact on Wire. Bullock needs some serious fitness work before he is starting prop but our other options are sadly so bad (except Flower) that hes now seen as a first choice prop'"
I think Bullock is going well and it will take time for him to really settle.
I agree to a certain extent though that he is being somewhat overhyped mainly because he brings something different to our front row and somethings we as fans have missed ie a line breaking forward.
For me at his level in an ideal world he would be 4/5th choice Prop but due to current poor form of others he is probably in our top 2, which is more a reflection in the poor form of the others rather than something to overhype Bullock for.

To be honest rogues that’s exactly what I thought! I know that Sams father had/has dealings with the Warrington youth setup but that’s about as far as it goes.

Ben Currie is another who Wigan let go. Though at this point not looking as bad of a move given his injury troubles.

Currie is only 24. Could still well up being a regular fixture in the GB set up throughout his career. could say the same about Manfredi, who I'm pleased we stood by.

I didn’t say Wigan were glad to let Currie go, I wish we didn’t. I was simply saying with injuries over the last few years it hasn’t necessarily been a bad thing. But as another poster said, it may well prove to be a terrible decision if he finds some steady fitness. He’s quality.

That's not true either, Lenagan had enough of playing Russian Roulette and decided to stop. Plus Wire were "offering a few extras"
A bit like they did with Michael Learmonth and Morgan Smith. That turned out well didn't it?

Can you stop making things up and embarrassing yourself.
Tomkins was always signing for Wigan, like his brother already had, hence why he was playing for St Pats. Warrington would have killed for a chance to sign him.
Out of interest what tour did Currie return from for Warrington to sign him?
Warrington via John Bastian did everything they could to tempt him away from Wigan at the end of the scholarship. Certain people within the Wigan club had doubts about whether he was tough enough for Super League.

Its a sad sad situation when a championship player who is out of steam after 10 minutes is seen as one of your best props. How did Lenegan get this so wrong? We have all been shouting for 1/2 new big experienced props for years.
Its the same with half back. For years many of us shouted for a new 7 and we ended up with.... a championship player (Sammut)
Same at centre, we all knew we needed a big strike centre and we ended up with.....a championship player (Hankinson)

How did Lenagan get it so wrong? You mean winning the Grand Final, Academy Grand Final and Womens Grand Final. I think he knows what he’s doing.
I’m not disagreeing for the sake of it but it sounds as though you’d be better off supporting Warrington as only big name signings will suffice. The irony being you would, I presume, be over the moon if we signed Walmsley from Saints... who was a championship player.
I understand the rationale with Sammut but he’s played one and a half games, how have you so quickly concluded he is no good? Hankinson though is unfair criticism. We saw him a few times last year and he was very strong until he got the eye injury. You can’t write him off just because he’s from the championship.
I also don’t understand the dislike towards Bullock. Is he the finished article? No. But I don’t think anyone is saying he is. Does he have potential to be an impressive forward with arguably his best years in front of him? Yes. Barry and Terry have both been full of praise for him on sky, and something tells me they know a little bit about what a good forward looks like.
The championship is full of talent which can be turned into top players. If you can identify that talent it’s a shroud investment. Some risks will work, some won’t.

There is a difference in making things up and getting muddled with passage of time.
Having thought harder and longer...I can't remember it being a tour. I recall it now as Wire signing him as soon as he became 16 and Wigan were with papers ready at office hours...and we're peed off.
However since I went.off with a tangent there I wouldn't be surprised if you cut that down too.
In which case it must have been the tooth fairy.

You must be Lenegan or related to him?
Of course he got it wrong. Look at the state of the team through years of 'value' signings. The real genuine talent has been leaving the club for years and largely been replaced with cheap project players or players that simply are not good enough.
Winning the GF just papered over the cracks and was more to do with Wane having a certain knack of being able to get the team running through brick walls and defending for their lives for a handful of games at the end of the year, it certainly wasnt due to Lenegans great player recruitment of late, in fact the only really quality signing he made in the last few years has been Greenwood.
Most of this forum has been stressing the need for a quality centre, prop and a halfback for years and we ended up with another project (Hankinson), a player that was deemed not good enough for SL years ago (Sammut) and a project prop from the championship (Bullock).

Bloody hell.
The whole point of every season is to win the Grand Final. Most teams in Super League haven't managed to do it.
The hand wringing on here is incredible. Yes, we look a poor outfit at the moment, but you really can't question what Lenegan has done for this club. We were on our before he arrived.

All he's done is invest money into Wigan.
I can't fault him if he's no longer willing to do that and wants the club to be self sufficient. Attendances have dropped by 4k despite incredible success - why should he foot that bill?

Because we are a top flight sports club, The most famous and successful in the game, If he doesn't want to or can't afford to fund the club to the standard it deserves then he needs to bring in another big investor or sell up to somebody with the means to invest heavily in the club, or get used to more Featherstone standard signings

There are the accounts from 2017 back to the year dot! Have a look for yourself how much IL has funded the club over the last 10 or more years. Who do you think will come in when the we're still suffering from a large recession?
Yesterday for the first time in many years I walked through Wigan town and into The Galleries, it was depressing to see so many businesses closed.
If the Wigan moaners got up off their collective backsides from their armchairs and barstools to attend games then maybe you would have a point, but at present I don't blame IL, he's put his money in, it's time the Wigan public did the same.

Half way through writing a similar reply on a different thread accusing IFL of being Tight when I saw your post.
He's turned the Income of the club from 3million to 7.2million over the last 10/11 years
Whelan used to write approx. £1million a year off prior to that
Our costs on average now exceed our income by approx. 500k per year and that has to come from somewhere.
If IFL wants that to come out of his own pocket like it has done for the last 3-4 years then I'm over the moon
However if he's decided to reign it in a bit then that's his prerogative.
What is critical here is that the costs of the Players haven't gone down as such
Yes - signing Hardaker instead of Tomkins may have reduced the overall wage but it still has us at maximum salary cap.
How we have chosen to spread that salary cap in terms of squad size over quality may be debatable (I'm more than happy with how it's been spread and would never want to get back to 2005/6/7 days when 6/7 of our players took 2/3rds of the salary cap - A few injuries and Poop creek along with juniors going to other clubs as we don't invest in them).
I just don't buy into the "He's Tight" brigades argument.
That argument is totally aimed at IFL relating to the playing squad, so if were still spending up to maximum cap then the argument maybe should be about "How" he spends it, the choice of "Who" he's spent it on and not that he won't spend it?

If the Wigan moaners got up off their collective backsides from their armchairs and barstools to attend games then maybe you would have a point, but at present I don't blame IL, he's put his money in, it's time the Wigan public did the same.

wigan is a ghost town , IL can float wigan till the end of time but it wont fix the fundamentals that the RL has pretty much restricted the game with the cap.
I was a fan of the cap in the early days , but its served its purpose in creating steady/solvent clubs but its time for it to go .
