Imagine in the depths of summer when its red hot. Scrums are a chance to take in water and much needed air. I really dont like it and think it will drive down the skill levels.

You could maybe be right,we will have to see I suppose but less time waiting around the better from an entertainment point of view.

They could do but i just dont like it at all. It makes the game too frantic and scrappy IMO.

I don't think scrums were ever designed to be rest periods, so on first viewing I have to say I like it. If you think back to the bad old days of contested scrums that was why they allowed the scrum half to feed thus speeding up the game. For me the shot clock is just a natural progression of speeding up the game especially as some teams have perfected the art of slowing the game down in other area's

I liked it. Can't see how anyone can say it's frantic. Neither team was having to rush, they just knew that the best tactic was to milk it down to 2 seconds every time to have a rest.

Maybe someone can clarify this for me - the new rules state that if the shot clock runs out, a penalty will be awarded to the team with the feed. Does this mean that the attacking team can take as long as they want?

No because if the defensive team has packed down and the attacking team hasn’t then the penalty goes to the defensive team.

The game officially lasted 43 minutes and 29 minutes first half and 44 minutes and 57 seconds second half

It was a breath of fresh air. Loved it. Teams will have to adapt. I wish I got a rest when racing my cycle in 10, 25 50 and 100 mile time trials, but I don't. I train to what I have to do. So will the teams.

The clock had the desired effect of avoiding time wasting. I realise it is new but do we really need to see the clock counting down on Sky at every opportunity? I want to watch the game without the distraction of the clock. Just let the officials monitor it.

It looked really amateurish, Like something from the seventies, Sky need to add it on next to the number of tackles on the score bar at the bottom off the screen rather than have it look like something from It's a knockout

I was not a fan of stop clock seems a gimmick, believe the refs job to ensure there is no time wasting, but after last night changed my mind game a bit, game over at 9.30 got to watch Vikings and the Orville and TOTP 1987 before bed, last season game takes up you whole evening.

My only concern with it at the scrum is, what happens if the team who does not have the feed delay forming their scrum say until the 28 - 29 second point. If the team with the feed then can't quite get the ball in who gets penalized? It almost happened a couple of times last night.

Ref makes a call on who is at fault, it'll usually go in favour of the attack. Also, it's 40 secs not 30

I’ve just read that Thursdays game ran for 88 minutes which is 10 minutes less than the average time of the Wigan v Saints games last season. Only 1 visit to the video ref helped that of course but I’m all in favour of the shot clock. Good move Mr Elstone!
