The 'saving players' thing is a negative approach to a final, IMO. Wigan rarely, if ever, did this when they were on their famous cup run. It was a case of one match at a time, and they never thought about the final until it was the next game. That's why they won it so often and won so many other trophies at the same time.

This idea that the final is the most important thing in your life only gets players upright and nervous. I mentioned in another thread that Hull KR were there in - I think it was 86. They wrapped themselves in cotton wool, and the week before the final played an inferior Wigan side, who beat them something like 46-0. The following week at Wembley they were also well beaten.

Getting into a losing habit is not the way to approach a cup final. And just saying "it's okay, we're saving ourselves" doesn't help. It's all about psychology.

It's been pretty much a one off for Huddersfield this year.

In a final when they're all pumped up i expect them to be as tight as they were in the semi.

I'm far from writing Wire off, your probably my slight favourites because i do believe your defence can lift in the final but it will have to. In a final when the refs are under pressure and tend not to keep blowing the whislte every 2 minutes i can see Huddersfield really trying to grind Wire down.

It should make for an interesting game.

I think in order for Warrington to win Hudds wil have to have a bad game, that's not offending Warrington i just think Hudds are one of the best, most consistent teams in the league this year, shown by the points difference between the two.

Wire can win, but Hudds will need to not show up, which under Nathan Brown i feel will be less likely. He seems to be able to get his team perfectly prepared for every match, and i doubt he'd let them think it was going to be easy.


As for writing the league off, massive mistake tbh. Even though they've got to Wembley if they lose that match all thats going into the history books is [possibly finishing outside the playoffs.

Too much to ask now they've got njuries and one eye on the final IMO

Right all this about Huddersfield being a great team... they are a good team, but we battered them at the HJ... 40-18, our forwards (if all are fit) are more than a match for theirs (as you lot should agree!!!) so, it isnt going to be such a formality as you think.. I think you wish it more than think it.. big difference.

This all looked balanced and people are allowed an opinion....... Perhaps for bitterness you should look a little closer to home...

I had a similar discussion with another wire fan in regards to the opposing packs of wire and the giants, and I personally though the starting forwards were pretty even, however the forwards on the bench for Huddersfield I thought have the advantage.
Plus the deciding factor of why the Giants are favorites for me would be the style they play, when wire played against us there large forwards smashed us and from that they were then able to get to there feet quickly allowing Monaghan to use the quick play of the ball very effectively, but I just don't think you'll get this against Huddersfield, they'll slow you down a lot not allowing that quick ball for Monaghan to exploit, taking away his threat from dummyhalf.

Hmm who knows CC cup win and top 8 would be very nice though.

I don't mind not getting in the top 8, because we might get a 1 off win then go out next round. you need to be in the top 4 - 5 at least to challenge.

Not at all, I really don't have a strong opinion either way as to who I want to win and I live in Warrington (for my sins) so know a lot of Warrington fans and think it is great that they finally have something to cheer about after all the years of not getting anywhere - ok I know we've not been too crash hot but we've been there or thereabouts far more than you guys. I honestly just believe that Huddersfield will do better than you on the day and you need some good performances in the league over the remaining matches otherwise it will be another short season for you.
When your fans spent all night singing Wembley last night it was probably just to wind us up (didn't work) but it was as if you had tunnel vision and were only interested in the Challenge Cup.
I hope your players stay fit so that it is a fair contest - and hopefully nobody will kick Paul Johnson in the back like he did to Amos Roberts last night as well - way out of order

When I was on holiday chatting to other people from this country I was saying my rugby team had a semi final in a weeks time and they asked who I supported and I said Wigan and they said oh yes Wigan I have heard of them, they then asked who we were playing so I said Warrington and well... they had no idea. I then asked if they had heard of the football team East Fife and they said of course we have. So here is the conclusion, East fife are more famouse than Warrington.
