Don't forget to mention how much ball we dropped and how good of a tackler our scrum half (Sam Powell) was.

Didn't he tackle well?
His passing needs some work but his work in defence was brilliant. A little more composure and that game could have been won.

| A good effort by the academy today against a team that looked bigger and more powerful than most of our lads did.
I think the main difference between the two was that when Hull got the ball they seemed to know what to do with it more with set moves etc.
Going off the team sheet the players that stood out a bit for me were.
6 - Declan McLoughlin, showed some nice footwork and good vision.
8 - Adam Davies, a couple of good runs that took the Hull players some effort to stop him.
9 - Liam Thompson, organised well and looked dangerous with ball in hand.
11 - Matthew Sarsfield, got through a lot of work in defence and made a lot of tackles. His go forward was the only thing that let him down imo.
Well done to the reserves as well for keeping the winning start going

| You couldn't criticise the effort today but the lack their of composure let them down, particularly in the second half, when, with the wind at their backs Wigan had Hull "on the ropes" but failed to finish them off.
Hull were certainly physically much bigger, and Wigan were very poor defensively around the play the ball. However, it was very young Wigan team that will certainly get better as the season goes on. It's always difficult early in the season to make judgments. Last year Wigan got overrun by a bigger Castleford side, but came good as the season progressed to make it to the academy Grand Final.

Excellent report on the game at Orrell today as ever.
I agree with you about the ref, I thought he ran the game well as a good ref should. The ironic thing is all the reserve grade officials have been pretty decent so far this season, shame you can't say the same about the superleague ones.

Yeah I agree with all of that. I don't get to Orrell often with Saturdays being a pain for me but I was there for that Cas game so maybe it's me. Saints last years champions got humbled at home by Warrington today as well to prove the point.

| Who coaches the 18's? Is it Pendlebury? Thought Wane had an input into both but obviously with the reserves being away that would have been impossible yesterday.

| Yeah well done Matt! Could anyone who watched comment on his performance? Go easy though as he's a relative haha
Crow without a 'e' too. Not like Russell. We don't want a Riddell Wigan Warriors shop merchandise situation when he gets famous

| thought Declan McLoughlin looked very elusive and seemed like a Benji Marshall-style type of player. He has a good step and has an eye for gaps and seems to have a good pair of hands...He was probably one that caught my eye the most.
Also Adam Davies was very good too. He made some very good yards and seemed very strong. He isn't really that big, but he is tall and once he starts to fill out and gain some muscle mass I can see him being a handy player. Funnily enough, he also has a good pair of hands and he even kicked out of hand quite effectively on a couple of occaisions.
One more player that stood out from the first second was the hooker, Liam Thompson. He came across as a very mature player and controlled the ruck very well.
Overall, the side played reasonably well but lacked a bit of aggression and sometimes composure. I'm sure as the season goes on they will improve in all areas.

Kieran Richards is Pat Richards brother, seriously. He is over on holiday and was asked to play due to low numbers and the academy playing the same day.
And Mick Farrell is a personal fitness trainer who used to play for Oldham, he has helped out on odd occaisions previously.

| I thought the young lad who came on at prop towards the end of the first half did well. Adam Jones who played with 15 on his back. He took the ball up hard but he also managed to offload qiute a few times as well. It's good to see props hit the line hard but it is the offloads that can really open up defences. I am looking forward to seing this lad again hopefully on Good Friday morning at Orrell and hopefully he will get a bit more game time.
