Ultras is just a name. People can't seem to grasp that, is it too far down the track for us to change it? Maybe have a vote on it?

If your struggling for folk for the wavers let us know I'll drag a few of our lot down.

If folk really have an issue with it they should complain to the club and if then we are told not to use the wavers then fine but until that days comes lets rock and roll

ive been a wigan fan for over 20 years,
warrington, saints, bradford, leeds, all matches that ive witness hostility towards fans on coaches, because there are some teens/early 20's people claiming they are ultras acting up and making and unfriendly and hostile atmosphere.
but hey apparently im a tool and i dont count,

and now ive been educated on what the ultras do i think its great, and like a previous post states its the name that might be the issue.

Had this discussion with a lad who contacted me from Jorvik Reds (York City Ultras). Both came up with 'Brigantes' who were the first tribe to settle in Wigan

whoah...........I know for a fact that the gang of 30-40 scroats who follow us on away days (and let's face it all clubs have them) have nothing to do with the flags/banners group.

Well I think your getting the Ultras confused with another group of fans, this group of fans what you are criticising saying you 'hate' are just trying to create a passionate atmosphere at home games which has been lacking since we moved to the DW, the fact that you're coming on here wrongly criticising what they are doing and accusing them of promoting violence despite all the effort they are putting in is disgraceful. The actual Wigan Rugby League club is involved with these lot, do you really think they would be if everything you are saying is true?

Did they use violence? Wouldn't like the club to be associated with a tribe who raped & pillaged.

I go to most every game home and away and with a group of all ages literally from toddler to pensioner and not once have I heard anybody mention ULTRAS in a negative manner. I'll be honest I don't use the name at all but it's certainly not due to the fact that it's a negative name.

You mentioned earlier on that folk won't conversate with you. So please conversate with me and tell me?

On a slight change of discussion, as I was heading down the steps after the hooter (to the tune of 'Long after tonight is all over'), it was amazing to see groups of older supporters literally dancing on the terraces and singing the words. One couple I saw (man & wife I assume, in their late 50's) were holding hands, dancing and belting out the words...they were in a world of their own to it. The joy on their faces alone made it so worth while!!!

Spot on mate, if there is something we are most definately NOT its official. But its impossible not to work with the club on certain issues, if we had a ground like the Willows we would do other stuff we have discussed and get away with it very easily were as in the DW its impossible to get away with "other stuff" you'd simply be ejected with immediate effect. We should be immensely proud of what we have achieved in the last year in terms of the 30+ gantry flags and all the wavers, completely SELF FUNDED. The away displays we have put up have been brilliant and worth every minute of our time and effort. I wish all these Wire lot that have a pop could see the messages of support and encouragement we have had off people at well respected football clubs around europe and how impressed people have been with what we have brought to the RL table in terms of vibrant support.

I think you need to settle on a name pretty quickly. The Ultras name does conjure up images of European soccer violence to the uneducated, but if the majority are uneducated about it then their's nothing you can do about it. I personally like the Irregurlars name but I think the skull needs to go for the same reasons as the Ultras name.

The Brigantes is a great idea but I do think it's something that needs to be sorted soon before you go down the road of scarves, T-shirts, hoodies etc...

Mate, the UK Ultras scene is all about trying to create some colour and passion on the terraces. Nothing at all to do with violence. Check out Stanley Ultras (Accy Stanley), Jorvik Reds (York City) and what's going on with this scene at places like Crystal Palace and Oxford United for example. It looks great and all adds to the experience on matchday.

It doesn't matter what we use as a name. Irregulars, Brigantes, Ultras. A group of fans want to replicate at Wigan what is going on at some of the clubs mentioned above. That's it.

Come down to the next meeting and air your concerns, you'll be made most welcome. We do encourage constructive criticism.

I can't understand why it is only the Wire fans (and just a few of them) who don't appear to be in tune with what we are doing. As someone else has posted I would love too see the other clubs do something similar, and would applaud them for doing it.
