So you only come and spread [uyour[/u nonsense on other people's boards, do you (mainly those whose club you are totally obsessed with)?
Sounds like a give-away to me, but it's not like we didn't already know it.

Wasn't it, what is, today known as a 'spear' tackle, the players involved would probably get lengthy bans now (especially if they were Wigan players ) !!!!

They didnt sign Hanleybecause of another reason not racist,Robinson ?maybe he wanted to sign for a more successful team at the time.
Dont start saying Leeds are a racist club, because we get anti semetic abuse everytime we play in Cas,Wakefield,Fev etc.

The Barren Years 1981-1990
During a six-year spell as Leeds Coach, Syd Hynes won a major trophy every season and his success' would be a hard act to follow and his departure in 1981 signalled an unstable period. Robin Dewhurst, Maurice Bamford, Malcolm Clift, Peter Fox, Bamford again, Malcolm Reilly and David Ward all trying - and failing - to satisfy the hunger for success.
During this period Leeds only managed to win two trophies, the John Player Trophy in 1983 and the Yorkshire Cup in 1988. The club never gave up and they continued to invest in the best players hoping that something would click and Leeds would rule the game once more.
Players included Lee Crooks and Garry Schofield from Hull, both were proven internationals and cost Leeds world record transfer fees.
Overseas players were still influential in Leeds' make-up. Staggeringly, during the 1984-85 season, Leeds had nine imported players on their books but still finished the season empty-handed. The 1980s must be seen as one of the most barren and frustrating periods in the club's history.
Under the leadership of another former Headingley legend, David Ward, Leeds approached the 1990s in optimistic mood, hoping to rekindle the golden years, but unfortunately this wasn't to be.
They came close to winning the championship in 1989-90 when they finished second to the most successful Rugby League side in the modern era . . . Wigan.
A new beginning 1991 - 2000
Leeds were again signing the big name stars and in June 1990 they captured All Black John Gallagher, rated as the finest Rugby Union full-back in world, but he didn't live up to his expectations and drifted out of the game after several seasons.
At the end of the 1990-91 season David Ward was replaced by Doug Laughton who was rated as one of the best coaches of the modern era, having just guided Widnes to back-to-back League and Premiership titles, so Leeds felt they had the man to re-ignite the flame of success.
He began recruiting the best players, which included the signing of Great Britain captain, Ellery Hanley, completely rebuilding the side and relinquishing the services of the old guard under David Ward.
He also set about creating the finest youth policy in the country which the club had passed by since the 1960s and 70s. One thing Laughton never achieved at Leeds was a major trophy, despite reaching four major finals in his four-year spell at Headingley, which included two successive Challenge Cup finals against Wigan in 1994 and 1995. Laughton shocked the Rugby League world - and Leeds - by resigning at the end of the 1994-95 season.
In the pursuit of Wigan, Leeds had over-stretched their resources and when Dean Bell was brought in to replace Laughton, the club was at it's lowest point since the founding of the club. This change in management also signalled the start of a new era for rugby league, not just for Leeds, but for the whole game in this country. The decision was taken to evolve from a hundreds years of winter rugby and to make rugby league a summer sport. The new competition would have full time professionals at every top-flight club and would marketed itself as the game for all the family at the turn of the millennium.
................................................................................................................................................
Did Wigan pursue and buy some of the best players?YES
Were they on their own?Not on your nelly kids
Its nice to know that the myth (pain and hurt) still resides in opposition fans, something that blinds them of the FACT they their own club was doing EXACTLY the same but without anything like the success of Wigan.

OK "HICK"It was implied because Hanley was not signed by his home city club that Leeds were racist,Maybe Hanley slipped thrugh the net, maybe he got a better offer from Bradford, however there is the rumour or myth throughout the city that it was for Leeds being the aristocrats of the game it was for another reason, but not racist.
Dont forget David Barham's performance in the 1972 championship final.

Despite the generally low standard of trolling we get on this board in advance of Wigan v Leeds matches, I'm absolutely staggered that there is anyone left who is still trying to drawn comfort from this silly fantasy.
Seriously, Rugby Lad, you need to start thinking like an adult.
Wigan may have problems, but the stadium isn't one of them.
As things are, the lease they have on it will probably last longer than Headingley's crumbling foundations.

And as usual, they never mention the real reason why Wigan lost so much money, which was because of the extensive repairwork caused by very serious coal mining subsidence under the Boston Stand.
Why? Because it would completely undermine (pun intended) their fantasy view of Wigan's history.

| Hey, we're nearly there. We'll soon have this game over and done with then we get a break from threads like this as we look forward to the Catalan game. Some of us spoke up when the Wolves thread started last week and as a result things became fairly civilised on both sides. Such a shame that normal service has been resumed.
As an aside to the Wigan posters, don't you get tired of having to tell the same truths to different clubs every week? Constantly having to correct the myths re the stadium, our history, our supposed cheating blah blah blah wears me out and all I'm doing is reading it!
I know I have the choice of simply not reading threads like this each week but I also have the opportunity to show my annoyance. For me, the best post each week is Tiny Tim's team news. Trying to choose the worst is impossible but the search would probably start on the weekly variation of this thread.
Rant over. Apologies.

| Quote ="Cruncher"Despite the generally low standard of trolling we get on this board in advance of Wigan v Leeds matches, I'm absolutely staggered that there is anyone left who is still trying to drawn comfort from this silly fantasy.
Seriously, Rugby Lad, you need to start thinking like an adult.
Wigan may have problems, but the stadium isn't one of them.
As things are, the lease they have on it will probably last longer than Headingley's crumbling foundations.'"
Cruncher no need to get touchy just because Wigan haven't got their own ground. My comment was nothing personal but simply stating facts, if you can't take that maybe you're the one that needs to come into the grown ups world and accept you can't argue with the truth just because its not what you wanna hear.

What 'fact' did you state?
Certainly not the bit about Wigan being shown the door any time and there being nothing they can do about it.
I'd love to know if you actually understand the meaning of the word 'fact', let alone the meaning of the word 'contract'. But then you could go and look them up in a dictionary, so it wouldn't prove anything either way.
I'm sorry if you're yet another of these juvenile trolls who assumed that Wigan RL v Premiership football would be a no-contest, and are now bitterly disappointed because after years of sharing with a Prem footy side, Wigan have grown stronger than ever. But that's reality and the sooner you deal with it the better.
At one time it was only the likes of Leigh fans who used to try to rib us about our stadium. Perhaps you Leeds fans ought to think about that.

| Who would have thought, that in a small town near Manchester there would be such aggravations, between the followers of the round ball and oval ball games?

| What I dont get with Leeds gripes is that themselves don't even fully own their own ground! Headingley is a complex owned jointly by you guys, the union and the cricket. Now correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that mean that you Leeds Rhinos do or do not own your ground? Coz to me that looks like a shared ownership.

Say what you want about Central Park...we always gave you a roof. £20 to stand in the rain is scandalous, it is compared to £18 to sit at the DW.
