Because they get to bring a friend along to the game who might not have been before who then might enjoy it and pay to come to more games, it's called a marketing ploy, to bring more through the gates you've gotta give a little. An idea some other clubs should maybe take note of instead of driving other fans away, like Hull FC seem to be doing.

Wigan being criticised by Hull fans for helping make a game cheaper and at the same time defending ripping people off, wow.

i just dont see the logic in putting away fans off coming to your gound? for many fans hull is one the futhest away trip they will make, its often a hell of a drag on a friday on the M62 and to then be charged more than you should???? they should be encouraging fans not discouraging!!!!

firstly, the £2 extra for away fans on the day is not right, how they can justify that i don't know.

secondly, as the cheaper tickets isn't just an early season promotion to increase numbers through the turnstyles, i can't see how they can justify a £4 difference in price. i'm not sure that anything can be done about this though, given that there is nothing to stop away fans buying tickets for the other end of the ground, and as i've said in my previous posts, clubs will always try to favour their own fans whether it be through discounts, free tickets or 'season ticket benefits'.

as i say, i don't see how season ticket holders benefit from that, it's the non season ticket holders who get the free ticket, and if they pay for tickets in the future, it's the club that benefits. i'd quite happily take a £5 or £10 cut in price of my season ticket and not be eligible for a free ticket for someone else.

This is a good point but it will be interesting to see what happens when inevitably a group of away fans buy the cheaper tickets and end up in the middle of all the hull fans.

Also, how is it irrelevant that home fans at the Huddersfield game paid £20 less than huddersfield fans, isn't that what the topic is about, that clubs should be charging the same ticket price whether you are a home fan or an away fan?

By your warped logic, clubs also shouldn't be able to sell season tickets (I believe you call them passes for some reason), because they would be paying less per game than away supporters.

Just face it, your club has completely cocked this up. Given that Hull is halfway to Holland and it's not the most friendly place in the world, you should be setting prices to encourage away supporters to attend, not the opposite.

And you talk about my 'warped logic' when you are the one comparing the discounted cost of a season ticket (when compared to buying 13 match tickets) to a season ticket holder getting a free ticket to a game... in one of those instances, the season ticket holder benefits, in another instance, a non season ticket holder benefits, can you figure out which is which? I'm intregued by the "supporter liaison officer". Do they bring your pie and pint to your seat for you? Give you a shoulder to cry on if you lose, perhaps?

So if I decide on the day I want to go to the match and sit in the away end. It will cost me £25 to sit behind the sticks but If I was a home fan I could get a reserved seat along the middle of the touchline for £24 , or unreserved further along the touchline for £23. there is still no clarification of why an away fan has to pay 2 quid extra just because they haven't pre ordered a ticket. Wigan may charge £1 more than for the same seat in the south stand but we don't penalise fans who don't pre book by charging extra.

oh and from what I remember of the support liason officer (it may have changed since i last remember seeing one) was basically a woman who gave kids lollipops and basically tells you where the ground is when you get off the coach if your not able to see it for yourself from the car park.

I received exactly the same generic response as will many others through out the season.

The offer wasnt only for Wigan fans to bring other Wigan fans, as I have said before there were some Huddersfield fans who got free tickets from the offer. There was no rule that the free tickets couldnt go to Huddersfield fans, it was for ANYONE. That's still a more restrictive policy than Hull, given that the Huddersfield fans had to know a Wigan season ticket holder who hadn't already claimed a free ticket, whereas away fans at Hull can simply buy a cheaper ticket for the stand at the opposite end of the ground... requires no friends who are Hull season ticket holders.

I bet there where plenty of Wigan fan's who didn't know season ticket holders and paid full price aswell though. I still don't see how the 2 are comparable. When Wigan start doing this kind of thing every week then you could have a point.


In reality what has happened at Hull is they have decided they want cheaper tickets to get more home fans in one stand... and to compensate they are ripping off the away fans with higher ticket, food and drink prices...

I've not been to Hull for a few years now because of their rip off prices.
