On a side note - it seems unusual for this site that any potential new signings aren't being named by posters on here at this stage of the season.
Wonder if those who used to be regularly 'in the know' don't post on here anymore, or if there'll be no new blood arriving next season?'"
We could see an off season without any significant signing. I'm struggling to think of any 1st teamers out of contract. Without players leaving there will be no cap space to bring anyone in. A lot will depend on whether SOL goes round again and whether TL starts coaching a year early.

Could be smoke and mirrors but I'm pretty sure Wane has said there will be no incomings, although the main rumour flying around seems to be FPN leaving. If that's true I would like to think we would be in for a replacement.

| I'd be very surprised if Hoffman was not in a Wigan shirt next year. Being honest I'm on the fence about if that is a good thing.

I'd expect him to give more than FPN, but I agree that I wouldn't be excited by such a signing. Too old and not really a front-rower.

| Toronto are being linked with an out of contract Ukuma Ta'ai from Huddersfield. I'd sooner we went for somebody like him as an impact player from the bench.

After seeing the impact that someone like Mark Minichiello has had for Hull (at 35/36?) and how important Lockers still is for us, I see no reason why Hoffman can't be a very good signing. And I reckon he's big enough to transition into a ball playing prop for us or even put Lockers to prop and Hoffman to Loose.

| He was great for us last time around, but I don't think it would be a good move. Second row is our strongest position, and asking a 33 year old to move to the other side of the world and play well in an unfamiliar position doesn't sound like a recipe for success to me. If Catalans go down (hope they don't) maybe we can tempt one of theirs, that's assuming we can get FPN off the books.

I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but I just wish we could get a crumper of a prop from somewhere ... the kind of player I thought FPN was going to be.

| My issue with Hoffman isn't his professionalism or his leadership. My main concern is that he is the most penalised player in the NRL this year and I understand was high up the charts last year. Signs he is slowing down year on year and also last thing we need is another penalty machine.

Julian Bousquet is out of contract. He has looked very good when I've seen him this year and for the size and of him(massive), he has a decent pair of hands on him.
FPN is so frustrating because when he looks interested he's been very good but most weeks he looks like he'd rather be in bed.

| I've mentioned Bousquet before should FPN leave as has NK now and I think previously. If Frank does depart we will need someone of that size.
My reasoning is that if we signed Bousquet and he improved to the degree Escare has then we'd have one heck of a prop!

| 6ft 5 and about 18 stone. The lad is a beast and he looks like he could really improve over here.
Even if FPN stays I'd hope we could move for him. If Tierney and Navarette move on you never know.

| Why are we so obsessed with signing players who have left us?
If we are not in for Bousquet and Ta'ai (if they actually are out of contract) then Wane needs to give his head a shake. They're exactly what we need, size in the middle.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Ta'ai a second rower?
We have form, in Lauaki and Pettybourne, for signing second rowers thinking they are props.

I'm with NK on this. We need a prop and Bousquet is the man to get!

| If Catalans go down (and sadly I think they will) would anyone be interested in taking Casty or Moa? Not been great this year from what Iv seen but may be worth considering.

I'd be very tempted to go for Brayden Williame. Could be a phenomenal centre with the right systems in place. With Tomkins, Williams, Escare creating space he could be devastating. In our current system, no difference to what we have.

Moa yes but probably no on Casty, he's no better then what we have. I recall Wane not being too flattering about Casty before the Roosters game in 2014.
Am I going mad in thinking Luke Walsh would improve us? I know his defence isn't crash hot but he's creative, has a kicking game and his goal kicking and drop goals could be invaluable in big games.

I thought about Walsh but I've heard he's going to Salford. I used to rip him to buts when he was at Saints so I'd struggle with him at Wigan!!

It's probably a sign of just how directionless we are in the halves that I'd consider a player like Walsh. Looking around super league there aren't a lot of options but there's still a couple who could improve us. There must be some viable options down under also. One things for certain, we can't go in to 2018 with Williams and Leuluai in the halves.

I've been a 'glass half full' supporter all season but towards the end I lost all hope. We were completely bereft of attacking prowess and I got sick to death of seeing TL just put the same crap up n under to the right edge.
I totally agree that changes have to be made and we need somebody to partner Williams in the halves who can take control of the game and allow George to play what opens up in front of him. That ain't Tommy. Somebody like Walsh would at least give us a kicking game with more than one dimension.

Has it come to this? Personally I'd rather have a younger player, even a not-quite-good-enough-for-the-NRL one like Jacob Miller.
It only seems a few years ago that the consensus was that Liam Finn wasn't SL quality; now we look at him with envy.
