If so, that proves everything the opposition always says, and laughs at, about Wigan fans.'"
Not at all.
I think he's done a pretty good job. I'd like things to move a little quicker at times but like i said we've rushed into too many things in the past.
If 2 or 3 years down the line we're still not signing players because 'the ones available aren't right for Wigan' and we're still waiting for things like the scouting systems to be improved and the like i can see alot of peoples patience starting to wear thin.
Basically to sum up- he's got a couple of big years ahead of him and will have to make some big calls during that time.

Gutted we did not sign Kearney i think he will be a sensation in SL, i am growing to like Phelps but Kearney would have been something else real top class in this comp although he does have a bit of an injury cloud hanging over him after a season ending injury this year.

| Bradford look to be doing what we tried to do during our fall from grace and signing anybody they can get their hands on from the NRL.
They've als signed Darryl Millard who is a centre Semi Tadulala has described as a cross between Chris Nero and Steven Bell....................................watch out superleague

| Quote ="Cruncher"Perhaps we should stop talking ourselves into a collapse. There are times when I worry that some fans WANT Wigan to decline because they think only that will prove their point.
We've got problems, but we're still not that far off being a pretty good team. The coaching position is the most important one for me. I'd love a new man to walk in and put the biggest rocket under the likes of Fielden and Feka that they've ever experienced in their lives.'"
I agree i seriously think we are very close to being a good side capable of consistently mixing it with the top 2/3 for silverware next year. The foundations of this squad are pretty strong.
I personally think we lack an innovative coach and back room staff and 1 quality Prop to put us back in the mix.
2 props and a half would be fantastic and there would be little excuse for not having a great season, but i am not sure that it is realistic.
1 quality yard making Prop i think will really kick this team forward.
In the long term we already have our enforcer Prop at the club in a round about way although he will not be in a position to play till the end of the 2011 season due to his ban.

Agree totally but we've been waiting for 2 years for a prop now and it doesn't look like happening anytime soon.
It's such a shame because imo if Wigan had a prop of the quality of a Graham, Peacock, Morley etc int he side instead of Feka or Fielden on Saturday we'd have probably been sitting in a challenge cup final now.
It shows how fine the line is between success and failure.

| I have added in the lam topic:
Lam head coach, Shaun Wane assistant, John Pendlebury as reserves coach and rads u18's coach.
Add to this Steve Hampson as fitness conditioner and i think we have a winning team

| Hampson stated in a radio interview recently that he has retrained in something else and is pursuing that nowadays. Something to do with Health and Safety IIRC so he is unlikely to be a conditioner. The others are possible though

Not a patch on your genuine winning team of a couple of days ago. McGuire as head coach and Lam as assistant. Now that really would be something.
The one above sounds to me like deckchairs moved around on the Titanic.

Agree with you here for a change.
2 props would be ideal - but not just any two props, ones that will actually take our pack forward.
I think realistically, without releasing anyone we will probably sign one player for next season.

They will have picked that up off here no doubt.
Although it is nice to see they seem to think IFL has already spoken to him.
I love the idea of McGuire, i just wonder with him seemingly on the cusp of a first grade job in the NRL would he come?
I think Lam will still be the man at Wigan next year.

Oh jon, your not accusing the MEN of poor journalsim are you.
I do think your right about Lam being here next year, in what position is probably still undecided but for me it should only be in an assistant role with if possible McGuire as the top man. I think under Lam S Tomkins would develop even further and in that respect it would be nice to have him around just for that, plus are offense may come up with something a bit different were he involved.
I was just thinking to myself regarding Noble, that when a coach comes in you usually see that in particular players there performances improve because the coach see's areas of there game he can better, yet I can't think of a single player who was playing first team rugby before Noble got here who has significantly improved, as an example I use Wilkin at saints and the vast improvements he made to his game whilst under Anderson's tuition.

I must admit I do like the look of that, and Lenegan if your reading we have a salary cap on players but on coaches we do not, so please make this happen, especially if were not signing any players.

| The McGuire, Lam, Wane combination looks just about as good as it can get. Lets hope that IL is really in for him and that he'll want to come here.
Neil Barker may have got the story from here but wasn't it picked up here from Andy Wilson's article in the Guardian?
NB refers to IL's trip to Oz and talking to McGuire. I do hope there's been contact between them since.
That sounds like our wish list really, doesn't it!

We are not signing Webb as he cannot get a visa, were he able to he would be a Wigan player next year.
Lam is a name that continues to be banded about, its also unusual for him to start publicly stating he would love to come back to Wigan, makes me think he is already signed and sealed in some capacity and on the PR offensive.

| I have been thinking the same as jonh regarding Lam. Usual practice when approached by the press regarding possible moves by coaches and players is to either deny it or say nothing. The fact he has been so vocal about returning to Wigan in any role makes me think it is a done deal and he is trying to emphasise his commitment to the role to get fans behind him before he arrives.

The fact he is saying that he is prepared to come in any coaching role makes me thing he will be assistant to a head coach next season.
Having seen the MEN it may be that McGuire is going to be the new head coach as this is the second different news paper to link him to us.
McGiure as head coach Lammy as backs coach, add wane as forwards coach.
We just then need to sort out the conditioning team but no doubt McGuire will bring his own man from down under should he be appointed!!

Assistant with Kearney at Storm. Although Kearney has the higher profile because of the NZ job apparantly a lot of his piers rate McGuire as the better coach, I seem to remember Wayne Bennett recommending him somewhere.

I think it's fair to say that Mike McGuire is one of the highest rated new young coaches in the NRL. Seems to have technical and strategic expertise, great motivation skills and an obsessive interest in fitness and conditioning. In short, he's got everything we're looking for.
But as someone else said, he's bound to be getting head-coach offers in the NRL soon. I reckon it would take a big wedge to bring him over here.

Your right in saying it probably would take a large wedge to get him over here, but thankfully for us coaches don't count on the cap.
