Although an awesome player I would rather him retire this year and have the good memories instead of having one more year and spoiling all the good memories that he has brought us.

He is definitely leaving. It was confirmed by the man himself last night at the Riversiders End of Season Dinner. A special presentation was made to him and a glowing tribute to him from Shaun Wane. Same, by the way, for Finchy, Tommy and Jeff. They will all be missed.

Carmont is the sort of signing that all clubs want. He didn't come with any great reputation (that I'm aware of) but has been a great club man for Wigan, and I'd imagine a top influence for the young kids. As a saints fan I'll be pleased that he is retiring.

It's been a pleasure to watch a fine exponant of the centres art.... Will be missed, but i'm sure we all wish him all the very best...

Ahhh man that's a real shame, he looks like he could play till he's 40. Time to go out on a high George!

Guys like Tommy Leuluai and George Carmont deserve nothing more then to go out as grand final winners.

As others have said, one of the best signings we've made in recent history. I really can't see why he's retiring as he just gets better year on year and this season has been no exception. I found myself defending him to a Saints fan on these very boards earlier in the season. Seems kinda funny now, but that's (some) Saints fans for you!

It's been an absolute privilege watching him in a Wigan shirt.

It says on the Sky Sports website he is going back to Auckland with his five children and Mrs (five jeez). However on Twitter Andy Wilson said he was going back to Newcastle to run a chicken farm.

Just to say George was signed without a massive fanfare but he has been probably the best signing in Superleague for any team in the last 5 years. Let's hope that we send him and the other lads, Tommy,Brett and Geoff off with a GF win....

The biggest compliment I can think to pay Carmont is that over the years he's got rid of this 'bargain buy' tag and has turned that in to a tag of 'brilliant buy' or 'Ian Lenagans best ever signing' or 'One of Wigans best ever superleague signings' and so on which just goes to show how well this guy has played and he's done it over a sustained period of time.

He came as a cheap option we'd thought would be here for a year or two and leaves as a club legend that would have been worth any wages we could have afforded for him.

Terrific player and above anything I hope we can win the GF for him(and Leuluai).

To be fair to those who were underwhelmed when we signed George, he wasn't a top player at that stage in his career. He was a competent but far from world class player when he arrived but he just got better and better every year until last season when he was at the peak of his powers.

I've always liked George as a player, and watching him in games like the WCC and the Exiles match was fantastic, what a season he had and how well deserved it was to see him fulfil his potential. It has taken him a long time and a lot of hard work to get to the pinnacle of the sport but last season he was truly world class and unquestionably the best centre in SL.

This season it is obvious that he is at the wrong end of his career but his class and hard work have kept him at the top of SL. His recent form has been very good and I suspect we may see some more of the 2011 George in the playoffs (not that the 2012 George has been bad!).

I think he could do another year and still be one of the better centres in SL but would understand if he wants to bow out at the top now, who would begrudge him his choice? For me the man is up there with the likes of Bell and Dallas as great overseas servants of this club in the modern era. Whatever he does is fine by me.

Now all we need to finish George's career is for him to get another SL GF winner's ring, it would be no more than he deserves.
