| Quote ="Riggs Warrior"Couldn't agree more, he has been our most consistent and often best player since his second season, regularly outshining Trent and Sam. But as DaveO says he doesn't get the plaudits he deserves. I think it's because he is on the wing. If you look at Sinfield and Eastmond, both kickers who play a more integral role in the creation of tries as opposed to Pat who finishes them off, both are considered their teams most important player.
I would give Pat MOS without a second thought already this season but ultimately he ain't flash enough, you can see that it'll be between the likes of Morely, Graham and Sinfield even though none of them may have had a particularly good year.
IMO if they were to choose a shortlist of 3 now you'd have to consider Pat, Monoghan and Orford, all Aussies I know but all important in their sides successes this season.
O/Tish Joel has to be a shoe in for Young player!'"
Joel's too old for young player, they have to be under 21 at the start of 2010. I reckon (winners name first):
Man of steel: Richards/Roberts/Orford
Young player: Eastmond/Lomax/T.Briscoe
Rookie: Lomax/Whitehead/Foster
Coach: Maguire/Agar/McManara

I think it's U23 at the start of the season, in which case Joel qualifies.

| I can't think of another player who has been as consistent as Richards this year, still a long way to go mind.

I'm only going off Sam Tomkins' [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Tomkinswiki[/url to be fair, hardly the most reliable source.

And that is why it is worth verry little in my opinion. Year on year there are some shocking selections in it.

I've said that year on year since his first iffy season. He's been a fantastic player for us and he's without question the best wingman in this league and also one of the best fullbacks.
A super player.

Pat is without doubt one of the best players in the world and I am certain in years to come he will become legendary at the club. Skillful, calm under pressure, pacey and intelligent (and a genuine nice guy to boot). There is not one team in this league (and several NRL teams) that would not want him in their team, end of!

| And just to think that like Roberts, Riddell and Pryce many on here wanted rid of him in his first sesosn.
I remember one poster who wrote "I'll carry his bags to the airport" (or was it Wakefield)

Aren't we happy that deal to take him along with Vaealiki to Wakey didn't go through.
With him and now famous, it shows that sometimes players need time to settle in.

To be fair we bought one of the best wingers in the world and played him at centre for a full season. After a couple of months, his confidence was shot and he did look a catastrophe of a signing. Thankfully when played in his rightful position he quickly found his NRL form, this also coincided with being handed the goal kicking duties.

He actually played more games on the wing that year.

Sincere apologies for overstepping the mark
To be fair to NickyKiss though, he was dreadful that year and that may be partly due to him playing centre for the first half of the year along with playing in an incredibly poor team that was incredibly low on confidence.

TBH, considering how poor the team around him was, combined with him playing out of position, he didn't have a bad strike rate in either position really.
These are his stats:
Pos---Games-----Tries------Strike-Rate
1-------1----------0----------0.0
2-------7----------5----------0.71
3-------9----------4----------0.44
4-------0----------0----------N/A
5-------7----------4----------0.57
Combined totals
Wing----14-------9----------0.64
Centre---9-------4----------0.44
Total----23------13---------0.56
A better than 50% strike rate is not bad at all for a guy "low on confidence" and "having a stinker", due to to "playing out of position".
Reading those stats, I don't believe that he was anywhere near as bad as people (myself included, I'll admit) seem to think he was.

I find that most interesting. Thanks for putting it up. There's still plenty of anti- Millward ammo out there but this puts 1 myth to bed nicely IMO.

| Its players like Paddy and Lockers who really deserve to win something with Wigan. They've been through all the sh*t with us fans and have now come through the other side. Lets hope we see these lads lifting a major trophy in the cherry and white sooner rather than later. You could see how much the game at Leeds meant to Paddy, he was close to tears at the end, he's got true passion for our club!!

I normally prefer not to compare players. Look what happened to comparing Lockers to Faz, but in this case it's so true. He will certainly be one of Wigans overseas legends. IMO he is a much better player than Dallas already mainly due to his physical attributes.
Nevermind best winger at the club though, he is the best in the league and one of the best in the world, I can't think of a winger I would rather have really.
I hope he stays with us untill the end of his career!

I have been speaking to a few fans of other clubs who seem to think Pat will be heading to the AFL with Folau at the end of this season. Has anybody else heard anything regarding this???
I sincerely hope not.
