| Quote ="Andy Greg"From speaking to people inside the club i believe he does only want 1 more year then wanting to work in Australia.
Lam could certainly help young Sam if this comes about i think its best for all the Club wins Lam wins and Noble wins.
Lam also gets 12 months to highlight who he wants out and who he wants in.'"
With the likes of Phelps,Carmont, Bailey(if both sign one year extensions), Fielden, Feka and Coley all off contract at the end of 2010 there would be alot of leeway for somebody like Lam to build his own squad.
I just hope Lenagan would give him the opportunity to do so.

| Wouldn't anyone prefer McGuire to Lam? He's taken charge of the Storm, not Kearney, when Bellamy has been away with Origin.
Lam has been at the Roosters which has fallen apart this last few years.
A reminder too that bringing back a former player, however good, doesn't always work as head coach. I'd go for McGuire with his own asst.
Whichever IL goes for, a new coach now or 2011 the appointment of Noble's successor will have to be made early. IL was non committal over the coaching position at the FF yet said there maybe no new signings for next year. If he still thinks we can go with the same squad and no new players after last Saturday then we are in bigger trouble than we think.
He may of course not be saying anything due to the 1st Sept deadline for British players and not announcing anything re overseas signings until their season is over.

In answer to your first question, yes - I'd much prefer McGuire to Lam.
Lam is too inexperienced to take on an underperforming club like Wigan. We need someone who can take the whole playing operation by the scruff of the neck and send it in a new direction, and we need that person for the start of next year - not at some tenuous future date when Noble feels like applying for another job again, or when someone like Lam has finally learned enough to be taken a chance on.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. Plus, it would explain the various rumours knocking around.

| If this McGuire is as highly rated as being made out then he'd have to be the first choice surely.
I do feel Lams history with Wigan may sway it his way though and the fact that he could well be the cheaper option.

| Not sure of the current situation with Lam, since Setanta has gone under lost touch with the NRL but i think i am right in saying Fittler has been sacked by the Roosters and Smith has now taken control this will leave Lam in a dubious position regarding his job one would assume.
Prior to this move I would expect Lam would not have been willing to come to an assistants position in SL, but that may not be the case now.
Although i would also like McGuire with Lam as his assistant though i personally do not think he will come and expect Lam to be here next year as our head coach.

| When we were linked with McGuire in the Guardian, I looked into him as much as possible reading every article and anything I could get my hands on regarding him. The thing that seemed to be repeated time after time was his insistence on using the most modern day techniques available, coupled with as much scientific know how as possible to prepare players to there peak psychical and mental best. Plus the growing reports he got from peers and a like was nothing short of fantastic, certainly a man I would love to see in charge at Wigan.
I also think that he'd be good for us because unlike Lam he has no previous history with the club or are players and would bring a whole new mentality, vibe and work ethic to the place that for me is solely missing.

He would have to do more than use new coaching techniques to keep on the right side of our fans.

I'm assuming thats a tongue in cheek comment because for me what McGuire would bring to this club is exactly what we need, a brand new fresh approach with new ideas and a ruthlessness that is required to get are club back on it's feet. I would compare him very closely to Brown at the Giants and back him to have a similar effect on Wigan.

I think he would be great, but he will need results and he will probably need to bring through the young players and not sign more Roberts and Riddell's.
I would be very excited if he was our new coach. I just feel Noble will still be here next year.

It’s probably the same story that was in the League express. Nothing like a bit of Tabloid plagiarism
Mr Maguire for me please.

| I would love to know why IL didnt move for Tronc, perhaps his failure to mention him at the FF acknowledges that he has dropped another clanger.
I hope he doesnt have many expectations for season ticket sales for next year.

Perhaps we should stop talking ourselves into a collapse. There are times when I worry that some fans WANT Wigan to decline because they think only that will prove their point.
We've got problems, but we're still not that far off being a pretty good team. The coaching position is the most important one for me. I'd love a new man to walk in and put the biggest rocket under the likes of Fielden and Feka that they've ever experienced in their lives.

It is frustrating how long things seem to take with Mr Lenagan tbh but maybe he'll be proved right overall. We've rushed into too many things in the past and had our fingers burnt.
He has been taking about scouting systems, lack of coaching staff, getting a supporters bar/shop etc etc since the first forum 20 months ago and we still look little closer to any of it being sorted out.
I just in a couple of years time we'll all be sat here praising the job he's done and not praying that somebody will buy him out.

Are people already praying that someone will buy him out? After less than two years?
If so, that proves everything the opposition always says, and laughs at, about Wigan fans.
