| I don't care who wins, but on form, it has to be wire to win.
But with the calls the refs are giving in favour of Leeds, well that might be the headlines on Saturday evening.
I sincerely hope that a daft refs call doesn't determine the match outcome. But after watching some of these match officials this season, I wouldn't bet on it.

| I want Wire to win. In fact not just win, I want Wire to put Leeds to the sword. I work with alot of Leeds fans and they are unbearable. Sick to death of hearing about the distinctly average Sinfield, how he is the greatest player ever to play the game. Im sick of the controversy and favourable and timely decisions by referrees and crucial times in games when it onvolves Leeds, Sick of the discliplinary hearings that are Heatherington influenced. Wire might gloat like hell if they win but out of the two teams they deserve it. Wore have actually been a very good side for some time and them winning will restore a little credibility. And finally out of the fans I have had some pleasent experiences with Wire fans, good banter and RL chat over a few pints. My experiences of Leeds fans is the complete opposite. Wire all the way.
This has got to be the most bizare post ever.
Sinfield might be distinctly average in your mind. But he has scored more points and won more tropheys than any other Leeds player. So yes to many he is the greatest player. So you would not have him in your team then preferring the brilliant Oloughlin . As for referees favouring Leeds. Good one. Did you see Silverwood last week try and help Wigan to a GF? Oh and the disciplinary really do look after us. That`s why Bailey got 4 games for pushing a ref and Tomkins got how many? We have copped our fair share of bans this year so don`t talk tripe. You epitomise the Wigan fans who think they have a devine right to win everything yet win very little. The fact we have got to the last 3 CCF and won 5 GF is something you can only dream of. So give us some credit we can`t be that bad. We beat you in the last 2 major semi finals so if we are bad you must be shoite. The play offs are what they are and were agreed by all the SL clubs so live with it. Bet you think the Champions League in Wendyball is crap too when a team finishing 4th in their domestic league can be crownedChampions of Europe? FWIW if Leeds don`t win it on Saturday I would be delighted to see Briers lift the trophey proving that money does buy success.

| What is annoying is how people didn't mind the idea of the play offs until they started sulking that teams below the top two could win it, like they should just turn up for their play offs games and let the better team win!

Because it was fine to include so much of the league as it is expected that it would be too hard for one of those lower teams to make it to the final but it has become apparent that it is not hard enough as its two years in a row now a one off like last year maybe fair enough but two in a row shows the system is flawed. If they want 8 teams in it then they need to work out a setup where the final team left from outside the top 4 must play the entire top 4 (one of which can be the final) before they can win the league but they don't. If you were able to beat Wigan, Wire, Saints and Catalans then most would be like yep fair enough they deserve it and that's what would happen with a top 5 system. Maybe we need a wild card system have 5th to 8th play each other until only one remains and then the second set off playoffs start where they are the fifth team. A merger of top 8 and top 5. That means there's less advantage to finishing outside the top 4 as you need to win 2 games then you need to win 4 more games to win the final beating every team in the top 4. I realise this means a 4 week break for the 1st placed team and 3 for the other of the top 4 but they could play warmup friendlies against the none qualifying teams from 9-12 this keeps the season going longer for everyone and is 100% inclusive.

The one issue I have is Leeds would be in this top 5 I agree it would be better but they could still win from 5th which people would still have a problem with it.
You have mentioned teams Leeds should beat to deserve it in a top 5 Wire, Wigan, Saints and Catalan but if they win tonight they will of beaten all but one of them and without being at home.

Yes but all but one isn't them all and it isn't just that its the fact that to get into a top 5 they'd have to try harder. I know that can be hard to understand as they got 5th this year but its because those 4 teams are all fighting for one spot so teams in 6th 7th and 8th will try harder as they aren't getting a spot unless they're 5th which makes the job harder for Leeds then the playoffs are harder to boot.

Which will mean they haven't beaten all of them so there you go! Its not as hard as the top 5. Especially as week one for them is a training game at home against an 8th placed side who in our league given its standards are just poor.
But as I keep saying the top 5 system is not just about making it hard for the 5th based team it is about giving an ever increasing advantage the higher up you finish. That rewards league position thus giving value to the league and the current system does neither.
There will always be a debate as to whether ANY playoff system creates more deserving champions than a 27 round league program. That is the only real philosophical argument in my book but wherever you stand on that I don't think there is much support for the current play off format.
It's got Nigel Woods written all over it with the stupid "club call" idea. Gimmicks before substance is his speciality.

| But then again Leeds wouldnt have to beat all of them in a top 5 depending on the format but its defo not beyond them to beat all 4 above if that was the case.
As I said before Leeds havent been handed this on a plate as some of you seem to think, and I still think if Leeds or whoever won from 5th in a top 5 people moan.
Would love to chat but got a big date.

If they finished 5th in a top 5 playoff system to win the playoffs they'd need to beat all teams above them.

| Depends on format though
Really is my last post but for me 1st should go to OT then its a massive reward for coming top problem with that is the gap without a game, that would leave:
2nd v 5th
3rd v 4th
Now as we are doing the Leeds example that would mean Wire V Leeds and Saints v Catalan followed by a semi for OT meaning 5th could win 3 games against teams above (like Leeds could tonight) or top win just one but gives massive reward for winning the league which IMO something defo needs to happen or like that.
There are other ways like the old 1st v 2nd winner goes to OT but still even with these I dont think it would stop Leeds they just seem to be the play off masters.

I don't think moving the goalposts to suit your argument is a win. That's not the type of top 5 we are talking about as you well know.

A number of Leeds players where ahead of Sinfield for MoM tonight for me:
Peacock
Ablett
Burrow
Delaney
to name four.

Was it 8 in a row ?
And how many times World club champs ?
No club has won anywhere near Wigans record for trophies.

Been watching the game for a lon long time and Leeds have also won their fair share of tropheys pre SL era. But guess what we have all moved on and we are now in a new era it is called the Super League era and just look how many tropheys we have wonin that era. So stop living in the past you bitter and twisted old git. Fancy that distinctly average Mr Sinfield winning the MOM. Must be fixed

But it is a purely subjective choice and any different group will have a different opinion on the day.
I thought Delaney and Peacock had a fantastic game, indeed our whole pack were up there and laid the foundation for victory along with a game plan for which McD must be given top credit. We took the pivitol players out of the game aned generally reduced them to a one out game.
But to pick a MOM award out of a great team performance is difficult and I would award it to Sinfield for outstanding contribution not least his kicking game both at goal and in general play and for his leadership.
We could have gone to pieces when Ryan Atkins snatched the lead again after the break but I believe that the Leeds captain stepped up and drove his team on to victory.
The game was fantastic especially for a final and BOTH teams deserve to be applauded.

Hopefully a few chair people of the top teams will do something about it and complain. Sadly I think the only way that anything would be done is if someone like Wigan or Saints won from 5th after Leeds had finished 1st. The RFL won't do a thing while it benefits Gary Hetherington's pocket.

You’re right mate last night’s result was an absolute disaster for the game of rugby league. If things don’t change does anyone else think that Leeds might want to finish fifth again next season. Please don’t tell me to get over it, they deserve it, they did it the hard way, it’s just sour grapes and I wouldn’t say it if Wigan had won in the same way. Well you’re wrong, believe me I would have.
