We actually deferred payments so we did not go over the salary cap. So even though there wasn't much wrong in what we did, we still went against the "spirit of the cap" which is what we were punished for.

You won't remember that though because you were still in the lower division then...

By the time Offiah came, Leeds had purchased Ellery Hanley off us (for more than we originally bought him for), so desperate were they to emulate our success. They had Schofield, Gallagher (NZ RU Import) and many more, spent massive amounts of money to buy the success (but failed to win trophies).

With regards to Shaun Wane, yes a very small minority on here questioned his credentials after the Hudds loss (big step for an assistant coach to up to Head Coach).

A few questioned his thought process for the selection against Widnes, where he rested 8 (IIRC) first team players. Many still think (me included) he got things wrong that day.

He's still learning and doing great. (Arguably better than Michael Maguire in fact - more fluid in attack whilst structured in defence).

No Leuluai - Joe Mellor
No O'Loughlin - Chris Tuson

Yeah at least he is still in SL. Willie Mason is the biggest turd in rugby ran off once he got a bigger cheque. Comparing Willie Mason and Lauaki is funny. Willie Mason has no heart for the game any more he is about the money. I would have had Mason of 10 years ago but not now.

We are not as stupid as some SL sides and pay too much for over the hill players. It shown now the strength in depth we have is amazing. Last 2 games with 4-7 players missing we hammered Leeds and beat Catalans in France by a big score. Can not wait until we get players back and improve even more.
