| Quote ="daisyhillbilly"Typical narrow minded view dont u think?
So just because he is leaving all his hard work and commitment that he has given to Wigan counts for nothing? Yes u can look at it that he has used Wigan to put himself in the shop window but do u honestly think that was all he cared about whilst he was head coach of Wigan?
Life is about bettering yourself and taking on challenges, y is sport seen different than normal work life. People change companies all the time for things such as money, opportunities etc.
He is an employee not a fan and the end of the day its a job for him!!'"
Life is also about integrity and honouring your commitments and in professional sport this supposed to be even more important. Not jumping ship the minute someone makes you an offer. In my industry we employ people on fixed term contracts and the ones that get taken back on when the needs arise are the ones who fulfil their obligations, not the ones who don't. Bad reputations are easily earned and hard to shrug off. The way people go on you would think he was in charge of a ramshackle outfit at the bottom of NL2 earning £100 a week, not head coach of Wigan.

The way I interpreted it, Lenagan was basically inferring that although you would always consider him if he was available, Edwards wouldn't take it due to his family commitments in London.
Although it will be Wane this time around, when and if Edwards ever comes back it will be akin to Dalglish coming back to coach Liverpool for me personally and I bet I'm not the only one.
The crowds would increase even further if Edwards was appointed.

| Right. Let's get a couple of things sorted:
a) if Madge had of stayed (like I desperately hoped) we would have all been elated
b) he's gone! Most of us are too proud to admit we are a little bit upset. No one wishes to lose a good coach. Take sir Alex and man u. When he goes, that club will never be the same.
However, what we have now, is possibly the most exciting time in our recent history. For once in a while, Wigan as champions have to choose a coach to lead us. Loads of coaches (both here and in oz) will want the job.
But we have to make the decision well. If we give it to Wane we have to be 200% sure he's ready, otherwise he may end up being a flop.
But we can't give another coach a long contract. If we do Wane will feel annoyed and just leave.
IMO we have two options;
1) hire a good Australian coach for a maximum of three years, then hand over to Wane.
2) make the dream team of coaching. Wane as head coach, Edwards as assistant.

How old is Shaun's lad now, he must be getting on a bit now? He was with Heather Small back in the mid-90's so he'd be at least 17??

| Edwards is far too inexperienced to take on the role of head coach, not just that but he is accustomed to the role of assistant in RU. I wouldn't bet against that kind of role, if anything, at Wigan.

I think it will be Wane but Edwards contracts are up with both Wales and his cub soon. So until Wane is announced or Edwards signs new deals in RU you can bet the speculation won't go away.

| Can't see Edwards coming, especially as head coach. Wane would be miffed a rightfully so. Yes, Edwards is a Wigan legend but that doesn't mean he'll be a great coach. My vote would be for Tim Sheens, who's yet to sign a new deal with Wests...

I think Edwards as assistant is a none starter. He would obviously be destined the for the no. 1 job at some point so Wane's position would be undermined from day 1.

Integrity and honour, 2 great aspects in life that unfortunately are far too often ignored by people especially in sport. Sport is judged on performance, and sport can be ruthless at times. If Maguire sees his contract out, has a poor season this yr and a poor one next yr does he still get the same chances he is offered now? No he doesnt. Yes Wigan head coach is a massive job but for an Aussie coaching in NRL is greater no matter how much we all wish it wasnt! If a coach gets sacked do the fans feel sorry for the guy that now has to go and find a job? No!! So why do some fans make out that its a crime to move clubs!!

| Bitterly disappointed even though I expected it. He's done and great job and I won't forget that. My immediate thoughts are to this season and making sure this announcement doesn't derail any hope's we have for success this year. Looking to 2012 and beyond I'll trust Lenegan's judgement, after all he's been on the money so far.
Either way Wigan are at the top after a long time away, and If Lenegan feels anything like I do I'm sure he'll damned before a change of coach stop's that progress. The club as a whole is heading in the right direction and getting better all the time, and as sad as I am to see Madge leave, I'm confident we can continue to build on and off the field. After all we are only in our infancy of our rise to the top, and firmly believe that. We've got plenty of good years ahead, even without Madge.

| Quote ="DaveO"Same here. It didn't happen overnight so after a very short time with us he was negotiating his future elsewhere. His contract here wasn't a life sentence and if he'd stuck it out he could have gone back to the NRL easy enough integrity in tact. Not now, no time for lightweights who behave like that. He can leave tomorrow for me as his future focus will be Souths and what happens with them in 2012.'"
Agree. I am sorry to see him go, but another year with us and he could have gone to a better club than Souths. Clearly the dialogue has been on going probably since the Grand Final win. That's life and that's sport, so no good complaining we just have to get on with it. My view is that just like any job, once you announce you are leaving and as you work your notice, your thoughts naturally turn to your new job and you loose focus on the job in hand. The players too want to work for someone who is totally committed. i really hope I am wrong though about MM and he can still inspire the team and the backroom staff for the rest of the season.

| I love Wigan RLFC as much as the next fan but
Being paid $1m Aussie dollars, getting to live in Sydney working with Inglis, Luke, Crocker, Taylor and Burgess at one of the NRL's most famous clubs owned by Russel Crowe is an offer 99% of the world won't turn down.
Madge has set us straight. He's put the foundations for success in at Wigan & I'm 110% confident Wane will take us to even greater heights.
Onwards and upwards again.

It will be Wane and rightfully so.
He had a decent case for getting it before Maguire took over and can't be ignored now imo. He's served his time as a u20's coach and as an assistant and now is his time to take on the mantle.
He'll kick us on imo.

Spot on, and if Madge can achieve the same with the Bunnies as he's done here then he'd be treated like a God by the Redfern crowd.
