surely thats fair enough?'"
I think it is a good rule, to have players able to report a player to the ref (especially an ex-Melbourne play). If Lima is found innocent then no one gets punished. Why would they? Wilkin assumed that Lima was up to his old tricks (which it looked like) and he had done it before in the match.
Why people would condone the possibility of players risking career threatening injuries for the sake of quietly having a word with the ref baffles me. I'm not saying Lima will be a dirty player over here but there is a reason that it was stamped on so thoroughly in the NRL and it was the Melbourne forwards that were choking players and dislocating shoulders.
Wouldn't it be better to wait and have a sly go at Wilkin AFTER Lima is found innocent. Obviously there was something to it as it is going through the motions at Red hall.
**Also, as a hypothetical. Is Jenson Button a 'little girl' if he wears a fire suit? Are policemen 'little girls' cause they wear stab vests? This is a man's livelihood. If someone threatens to end that, there should be every opportunity for a fairer assessment.**

Many people have looked at the replay and made their own mind up. You think we should judge it off whether he gets found guilty or not? We all know the RFL are well renowed for "Fooking things up" so to speak.

Rationalise it however you want, but in any macho context - including the police, seeing as you use them as an analogy - those who go telling tales are regarded with contempt.

all im saying is, if someone complains like wilkin did, and the rfl finds that it was a pointless complaint and there was nothing in it then the player that has tried to stitch the other player up should be given the punishment he was trying to inflict on the other player. that is all, if wilkins accusations turn out to be true, then no harm done right??? I think it there is more grounds to say that it was a very risky tackle (to put it softly) than the other way around.
You may have a view of the proceedings. But having a preconception is the equivalent of blaming the ref for loss. There would be more ground to accuse Wilkin and defend Lima after a hearing has made a decision.
But we wouldn't be fans if we didn't chime in and give our opinions. I can't understand the backlash though. Even some Sts fans are insulting Wilkin. He did the right thing.

Fair enough. I will keep my opinions on that matter to myself. However, several people have claimed that Wilkin should be punished for doing, what I think, is the most professional thing to do.
We must remember this isn't binmen and 'leccies going to the ground on Sunday in the cold and snow beating each other senseless. This isn't even the day of 80 mins of biff and down to the pub for 7 pints with the opposition.
If we want this sport to be as big or bigger than rugby union, we must adopt a professional attitude and either being partisan with the cherry and white goggles on, or harassing a player for trying to put an end to play that is dangerous, is not going to get us there.
Even if people want it to be the days when it was rougher and tougher and the rules didn't always apply. We can't! It's too late. I welcome it. As Steve-O said to the Clarke at the weekend "the human comes first".
I think Wilkin is most definitely the bigger and better man out of this.
Several people on here hold a negative view of what Godwin did. What Lima **potentially* did was worse. Godwin took advantage and slapped/ pushed a guy. Lima **may have* tried to break someone arm, in a sly and sneaky way.

Lima pulls Wilkins arm so that he cant land on his elbows and get a quick play the ball!! We now ruling that out? If thats foul play then we will have start playing tick and pass!

having an opinion on what Lima did or didn't do is okay. It is opinion after all. The condoning is of people who have focused more on Wilkin's complaint than the one definite chicken wing (according to most fans i have heard on the subject) and one possible chicken wing.
There is some merit to what you say. If it was a fake. For example the hand of god in football. That was obviously cheating. Then that would be wasting the time of everyone and would have stitched up the accused,. But, NO WAY should Wilkin be banned. He was in the tackle and, as i said, Lima has a history of chicken wings. He did one 40 or 50 mins early in the match. There was risk there. If it was a mistake maybe Lima shouldn't go for the arm or above the chest and no harm done.

| If the tackle on Wilkin was completely legal, why has he been charged for it? Plenty of incidents get referred and then get a No Charge result.
For me, he was working the arm in the tackle, Wilkin had two other players on him and felt Lima was attempting a chicken wing tackle. Are players that complain about biting also 'pussies'? Perhaps Hopoate's victims were also 'pussies' for making complaints about a player sticking his finger up their backside?
FWIW, although he may have been attempting one I'm not sure he actually did one and will get a warning at most.

We are realists over this side of the lump, unlike you lot who let a Grand Final win persuade them that no-one could possibly get close! Had Jamie Foster had his touchline kicking boots on we would have nicked the full two points from you and boy that really would have been something! Still, given all our disruption lately, the one point was pleasing enough. It's certainly caused all manner of strife on these boards.
But back to the thread ...
I saw what FearTheVee saw but whether it was a chicken wing or some other form of equally dangerous tackle I do not know. The RFL will sort that one out. If the tackle on Soliola was worse than that on Wilkin then it's possible Lima will get a ban. But if it wasn't, or if the RFL decide that neither was dangerous enough to be dangerous, he'll get one of the RFL's infamous warning letters.
I think Wilkin was spot on to report the incident as he saw/felt it. Player safety is far more important than any mythical code of silence (which is bollox anyway since as others have said there have been players reporting on other players for years). As evidenced by the Wire match on Saturday, ours is a dangerous game anyway. It is just plain stupid to allow deliberately dirty play to make it more so. And men who think Wilkin less of a man for having the balls to stand up for any number of players who could be at risk of unnecessary injury are not worthy of respect.

Had Tomkins got his kicking boots on we'd have won, if Deacon hadn't gone off and if he had kicked we'd have won. If the touch judge had his glasses on Meli's try wouldnt have been awarded. All "If's"
Anyways, I don't think Wilkin should have stopped the game I mean, What next? Players stopping the game because they felt a tackle was too high? Too rough? They feel theyve been kept on the floor too long??
The sport is slowly turning into a farce where it may as well be touch rugby.
Having said that, the tackle Lima did on Soliola did make me cringe at the time becuase I thought it would have been penalised but the Wilkin one is a joke. If players do anything thats dangerous they WILL get pulled for it, we don't need the game stopping everytime a player feels hard done to.

| The way is see it is that there's nothing wrong with the Wilkin one, and the Soliola one is just an accident. Lima tries to force Wilkin's back down but accidentally catches his arm around Wilkin's. I don't really think a player would intentially commit a chicken-wing tackle in a game that is on TV and being watched by 30 thousand people. The player would know they would get caught and face a potential ban.
