He's a younger player with plenty SL experience behind him whilst his best years are in front of him.
One of the reasons Goulding didn't go to Wire in the Gleeson deal was because IL said Wigan had invested too much time and money in the player to allow such a talent to leave.
The same surely must apply to Hansen.
Hansen is a must stay player IMO.

He was put through a gap, did didn't break the line. And you've quoted one occasion. I think he's a good squad man to have around, but there are better at the club.

There is more to the game than attack. Hansen is one of the best and most disciplined defensive second rowers in Superleague. And he is only 24 with his best years to come.

Agreed: he's consistently our second best tackler (behind Lockers, of course), which, considering he often doesn't play the full 80, is some achievement.

Maybe player 'bashing' is the wrong phrase to use. But people saying that if he's offered bigger terms elsewhere then we should not increase our terms to him is ridiculous to me. He's extremely underrated, does every part of the game well and has been our second best 2nd rower behind Joel. In any other season for possibly the last 5 years he may have been our best 2nd rower and I feel as though people are undermining his contribution this year simly because we have done so well.

I think they are aiming a bit higher than being a small town club, and mediocrity.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I'm aware, Hansen came through Salford's youth development system.

I'm not suggesting that our youth policy is anywhere near as developed as Wigan's, but it's an area we've made massive strides in under the tenure of Alan Hunte.

We signed him on pro forms from our own Academy set-up. He came through with the likes of Gaz Hock and Luke Robinson.

Correct, at under 21's academy level. But I believe at under 18's grade he was with us. I may be wrong. It's happened before... Once.

Looks like it's twice then, because he came through our scholarship system and signed pro forms aged 17 in July 2005. To quote the legend that is Dean Bell, who was in charge of our scholarship system so commented when H signed in 2005:

Hansen came to Wigan on a scholarship at 14 years of age.
