He seems like a smart articulate guy, has been working in a great setup at the Storm and has been receiving some fantastic plaudits in the NRL for a while now. He's young and keen to prove himself in his first appoint as head coach.

Excellent stuff can't wait to watch him go.

Interestingly IL points out his strengths as a conditioner on the website, perhaps he has seen what we have all seen also.

Really happy with the news, think it'll work well... And in 3 years see wane take control with the experience he will gain. Roll on 2010.

IMO Nobby (and others, Wane etc) has created a great foundation of a team for MM to really take on and develop a great team.

Good appointment from IL and looking at the official statement it seems that he has been making sure all the paperwork regarding RFL approval and visa's has already been done so there's going to be no last minute hitches.

Obviously this contributed to the delay in making anything official.

He looks like a great candidate to take on and develop some of the younger players and hopefully give our more established players a boost and a new perspective to improve their games.

It shows why we have gone for him.

He's got a good grounding for a coach having knowledge in not only the latest coaching techniques but a fitness and teaching back ground as well.

We've certainly got the talent at Wigan as well as all the facilities a coach like Maguire could ever need to be successful.

Lets hope it's the start of some new good times at Wigan!

His age is something that intrigues me.

Both Nathan Brown and Justin Morgan are reletively young, Australian coaches and have both done well in Super League.

Whether or not he's a proven first team coach, he's been involved and knows what it takes to become a championship winning side in the worlds best league. This, along with the praise he's received Down Under suggests this is a good move by Ian Lenegan.

Time will tell.

What is wrong with all you doubters...........judge him on results and style of play WHEN we start playing......we got behind nobby and sadly he just couldnt give us the final edge we needed.....he has now gone so lets get behind Lenegan and support who we have now

My first thoughts are that this is a really astute appointment, even if it doesn't work out!!!

To find a British coach who is better than Brian Noble would be difficult, and I dont't think we could attract an Australian coach at the top of his powers, so my thoughts are that this appointment is as good as we could get, given the rave reviews about Maguire coming from Australia and even this country, he does appear to be as good as we could get.

However, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating but I am excited about next season and confident that we will get a step improvement in our performance even if finals and cups are a step too far.

Should do wonders for season ticket renewals, I'm definitely in again for next year. (Always was going to be anyway)

The BB website has Maguire down as the 11th coach in eleven years; is that correct?

I don't see how anybody can question this appointment. He will come armed with a dossier of the latest techniques from the NRL, that obviously work.

I mentioned a while back that I would love to see a coach who hasn't fully made it in his career yet. If we get someone who thinks they know it all like Millward they feel no pressure to succeed as they could just get another job but McGuire has pressure to make a career in coaching so he will put everything into it. I am chuffed about the combo of Mcguire and Wane, attack and defence will both be sorted and our forwards will be running through brick walls.
