One of the members of the coaching staff went to Milton Keynes to meet Lenegan to discuss his future a while back. He came out of the meeting none the wiser, "with four different heads on" were his words...

Am I staying here with Brian next season?

Maybe Lenegan has form for keeping his employees guessing!



Whatever has gone on, Im 100% sure IL has acted in THE BEST INTERESTS OF WIGAN RL in what has been a unique and difficult situation.

Some of you are saying Lam hasnt got the experience to be a SL coach. He did a very good job coaching our under 21s on a par with Wane I would think, he has been assistant couch at the Roosters and also at Cronulla, Probably one up on MAGUIRE, also he did a good job with PNG. So how come he is not qualified and the other two are. I am ashamed to say that I am a season ticket holder at Wigan,. the way Noble has been treated is disgusting. The fans on this forum have certainly done some stirring. You said Noble had had his chance yet could not produce, yet none of you expect our new coach to do any better unless he gets some new players. IMO the new man HAS to get to at least one final with the same set of players in his first season . Only then will I say that you and IL were right in getting rid of Noble . The fans should have been told what was going on at our last home game, they could then have thanked Noble for all he has done for us. Remember there must be at least 10 thousand season ticket holders who actually liked him .They dont all come on this forum.

My assessment was he'd made his decision months ago hence the Kearney approach.

I don't think the 3 or 4 weeks ago comment helps as it just undermines his credibility IMO.

He has acted in what he feels are the best interests if Wigan RL, time will tell if he is correct. Personally I dont think the above will achieve anything but cause confusion and an uncertain work environment which isnt a good thing

Why his first season??? he might want the players to play to a different style if so (and I hope so) it will take time for the players to adjust.

DIESEL, Yes I do expect results in the first season, If we can get to 5 semis with the players we have, then the miracle men that the majority of posters on here seem to think applies to Maguire and Wane it should be a piece of cake for them to acheive. Also we have been waiting so long now for things to change that I think a lot of fans are getting dissatisfied. How many more years are we to be expected to wait. If Noble had been given the extra couple of men that everyone but I L knows that we need, that would have been the difference between a semi and a final. Are we to be expected to wait another 2 or 3 years for a new coach to get things sorted his way?, long before then the fans will be calling for him to be replaced, Noble was almost there and should have been allowed to continue, his dismissal has only put us further back. And dont quote Smith at Wires, with the players they have , they should have been one of the top teams a few years ago. We should be so lucky.

Who said 2 or 3 years ? I just said why the first season...as I stated the players "might" need time to adjust to a new coaches style...maybe they will win something in the new coaches first season who knows..for me I would be happy for a more consistent winning season with good rugby played ie value for money. I don't recall many wanting noble out before this season. As for noble wanting an extra couple of players and IL not signing them I don't know if that's true ..maybe you do (and I don't mean rumours)....It sounds like you've made your mind up about the new coach before he's announced.

To be honest with you, and no disrespect intended here, but what you expect is neither here nor there.

If Wigan appoint Michael McGuire ('miracle man' or not, which I have to say sounds to me like a cheap shot intended to start undermining him even before he's arrived), they must have done a lot of work to persuade him to come over here and will have forked out quite a lot of cash for what they consider to be very high-level NRL expertise. So I suspect they'll be strongly inclined to give him a little more time than the one year you advocate.

As for whether he'll prove to be any better than Brian Noble, only time will tell. As he hasn't even got here yet, it's far too early for either you or I to make a judgement call on that. But his pedigree is such that many Wigan fans are right to be excited.

Tbf the one thing we can all be sure about with Maguire is that he'll get plenty of time in the job.

IL showed with keeping Noble right till the end that he's not one for swapping coaches and he does give them time! He resisted the calls mid season for Brian to be sacked and I'm pretty sure Maguire will have a long stint as the Wigan coach.

It wasnt a cheap shot when I said Maguire miracle man, that is what I think most of you on here seem to think he will be. This post is headed Adrian Lam , and as most of you seem to think that he was not qualified enough for the job I earlier was pointing out that his qualifications were probably higher than Maguires. I hope he pulls it off for us , but he will have to be a miracle man to do it with the team we have had this season and that if he gets some new players then he will have the advantage over Noble . He wont get sacked thats for sure as IL wouldnt pay him off.

It still sounded to me like you were casting doubt on the new coach before he's even been appointed. If that wasn't your intention, fair enough.

It might not be McGuire yet, we'd don't know. But though I couldn't stack up their relative qualifications alongside each other, I hear nothing about Lam being praised to the roof as a coach, but an awful lot about McGuire. I know which of the two I'd rather have.

However, as I said, we can't make an informed judgement yet. But Wigan needed to do something, because we haven't made any significant improvement since about 2007. I thought 2006 was Nobby's finest hour, and a greater service few have ever done the Wigan club, but I don't buy this 'Nobby would have been better if he'd had better players' argument. Any coach could say that, and as things stand, the new guy won't have better players either, so comparisons in team standards will be very interesting this time next year.

So, is Lammy involved in things, i wonder will we find out about more than just head coach today, or will we have to wait for all the other appointments.
