SL has been going downhill - in entertainment terms - long before HKR joined the party.

to be fair chuck, people who take a wider view of rugby league have been decrying the falling standards of the top level of the british game for a while now. the world cup last year illustrated the point.

It's the Wigan board that is full of tales of people deserting Wigan RL because you aren't winning everything (expressed as everything is boring). We don't have any delusions: rubbish ground, credit crunch, etc. We've never said it's because the rugby is rubbish. Saints haven't said that. Hull KR haven't said that. Leeds haven't said that. Catalan haven't said that. Castelford haven't said that. Huddersfield haven't said that. Quins haven't said that.

I say this with a sickly feeling in my stomach, but the best thing that could happen to rugby league this year is a Hull KR-v-Warrington Grand Final, because Leeds-v-St Helens won't fill it.

And Wigan fans can whinge all night, but there have been complaints in the NRL for the past few years about increasingly negative rugby.

I love rugby league with a passion and go to every possible international game, grand final, challenge cup final etc etc but as a fan of the sport i can see it's in abit of a struggle at the moment.

The standard of the league has been dumbed down not built up and it was proven by Englands awful preformences in the world cup. We're further behind then ever in the international stakes at the moment and something has to be done.

I remember going watching Great Britain teams including Davies, Schofield, Hanley, Edwards etc etc and more recently Sculthrope, Farrell,Newlove,Connolly ect and thinking they were poor sides in comparison to the Austarlians but christ they'd kick our current team all over the place.

Wellens, Gardner, Burrow, Westwood etc international players? not in my lifetime.............oh wait they are

I agree with Wellens and some of the others, and one of the problems has been the lack of anyone pushing then old guard for places. But this was also the squad that stuffed the Kiwis twelve months before and ran the Aussies as close as anyone else has in the past. You are equating one bad tournament with the game dumbing down, but maybe you see it that way because of the team you have and the coach you have. Give me a Super league game over many of the NRL games I have watched.

Even better idea. Let's drag the top clubs down to the level of the dross and see the best players from the top two clubs get royally slapped at a World Cup. No, hang on, that's already happened.

That kiwi side we murdered was a 2nd string team with huge internal unrest at the time. It was nothing to write home about but the majority got carried away.

I'm not a one eyed Wigan fan that thinks the be all and end all of the matter is us being up at the top because i'd quite glady see us sit in mid table if the interntioanl side were ripping it up proving to me the quality around the league was of a very high standard but it simply isn't.

All the clubs have to start getting as many English players in their side as possible.Yes have foreign players in but of the very highest quality and no more then 3 imo.

Rules like that would suit me down to the ground because we have more then enough juniors to see us thrive and the same could be said of Wakey, Cas, Saints, Leeds ect.

It's the lazy clubs that are putting zero into developing their own players that are sha*ging the sport rotten and not putting back in what they take out.

Take Warrington for example and Adrain Morley..........if they could produce their own players like Morley that would be great but they don't and buy them in. They take him off one team and put them in their own so instead of having 2 Adrian Morleys we only have one.

We're as guilty as most for signing players in but nobody could question us actually producing players.
