| Quote ="jonh"I wonder if Taumata's availability is the reason for this massive "u-turn" from IL from unlikely to might.
Despite what Noble continues to say about how he is happy with the half back partnership, it is clear we have been looking for a specialist 6, no inside line on this just thinking out loud, if we could break the mould and tame him a half back partnership for the next decade of Taumata and Tomkins would be a mouth watering prospect.
I have not seen much of this kid but he clearly has the talent, i have noticed him being mentioned by a few pundits from the NRL as the player to watch in 09, and anyone being earmarked by the press at least to shift Inglis to centre to accomodate them can be no slouch.'"
Yeah, worth a go, him and Hock would be battling after first session though!

While there's no doubt he's got talent, there are horror stories connected with his attitude. Mind you, there were horror stories connected with Tim Smith, and thus far (at least) he doesn't seem to be a problem.

Arana Taumata
Just sacked by Melbourne Storm for fighting (his 4th sacking in 3 years)
Previously with Brisbane Broncos, Sydney Roosters, Canterbury Bulldogs.
He's a tallented player with lightning pace, has a great step, good kickin game and is deceptively strong. His support play has had him compared with Terry Lamb (the best support player I've ever seen).
At 19 years old he obviously has some growing up and maturing to do!
Some of the best coaches in the RL world (Bennett, Ballamy, Folks, Stuart) have rated his talent but have been unable to calm him down off the field.
At just 19 years old he has time on his side and with the right coach he could become a superstar.
Before passing coment I suggest you Google his name or check out a video site to see him play.
Arana Taumata
Date of Birth
15/04/1989
Position
Stand Off/Halfback
Height
182 cm
Weight
88 kg
Debut
2008
Pedigree
Discovered by Brisbane rugby league scouts at an early age in New Zealand, Taumata made the move across the Tasman in his teens, becoming a high school prodigy along the way. Had short stints at Brisbane, Sydney Roosters and Canterbury, with the Bulldogs handing him an NRL debut in 2008. Taumata, who grew up idolizing New Zealand rugby union star Christian Cullen, played for Junior Kiwis in 2007 and NZ Maori last year.
Preview '08
Simply put: Taumata is an athlete. He possesses tremendous physical attributes for such a young age. A classy five-eighth, Taumata is expected to put pressure on Craig Bellamy to give him a shot at No.6, in a move that could see Greg Inglis return to the centres.'"
Just looked this guy up on you tube. Looks like he has plenty pace. Might not be a bad un? (on field that is)

There in lies the issue i do not see any talented British props that would be available, i would assume any player coming in if it were to be a Prop would be kolpack and would see one of our overseas players either move the other way as a make weight or see one of our overseas players go out on loan.

Agreed, there are no British props available who would do us a better job than the current ones.

Are there any british props off contract next season?
I would like to see most of our pack from this country as we cann produce good forwards, but when it comes to the backs we have no chance of finding many great backs in this country.

A lot of teams are gonna be in for him next season imo. It’s gonna be top dollar for anyone who wants to sign them.
I hope we get him i really do but i think he may end up in the NRL like Ellis.

| But Lynch will be 30 years old this year. Do we want to replace a 29 year old (Coley) with a 30year old?

For mine 1 quota spot has to be used on a prop in 2010.
we will lose Bailey, Smith, Phelps maybe Carmont at the end of 09. A prop and a centre both top class should be atainable in my opinion.

| Lynch would be 30 but we could still get three quality seasons out of him. Not only that but he's a good player who wouldn't take up a valuable quota spot. You can’t put a price on a good British prop like Morley or Peacock and I think Lynch would be more than capable of fulfilling this role for us.
He'd be my top target for next season with a top class Aussie centre coming a close 2nd.
I really do think that this would be all we needed as well. Our good youngsters would be a year older and wiser and would fill any other backup spots we needed.

Me to.
Lynch is a class above Andy Coley and has at least a good 2-3 seasons left in him. He would be right near the top of my priority list.

| We need a 6, A prop & a centre for next year.
I've heard Luke Burgress mentioned a couple of times, although I have no clue what his contract status is like @ Leeds.

I'd find Ste Breheny a pair of boots for next season if it meant getting rid of Coley.

Have to say, I wouldn't mind Luke Burgess in our side. IMO he has alot of potential, but I fail to see why he would leave Leeds.

I think we also need a new fullback. I believe Karmichael Hunt (sp) is off contract and he could certainly do a good job for us. Mathers is a waste of space.
Also the whole Tim Smith will he wont he will be apparent come the end of the season. It is most likely he will leave will Sam Tomkins be ready? Depends how many games he gets to play this season.
I would like to hope Mossop will be given game time to allow him to take Phil Baileys place but this wont happen.
