He will be a decent signing but hes not in the world class category. TBH I expect him to have a stinker for the first year to 18 months anyway, in the same way as matt king, especially because he has been forced away from home, and will find it difficult with inevitable barking noices from the opposition fans every time he picks up a ball next season!



I recon Wire would be better playing Chris Rilley for the first 12 months of his contract for this reason, and he certainly wont be as good as hicks would have been. Could be a mistake by the wires IMO especially in the short term.

Not seen enough of him to say he is or isn't World Class.

Think he was at his best in 2007 and 2008 going off his scoring record at that time plus he got the wing spot for Australia in the 2008 World Cup.

Who knows if he will be better then Hicks was but his scoring record of a try every 2 games in the NRL is decent and I think here is the best place for him right now, its not very often you get to basically trial an NRL player in your team in pre-season training before signing him which is what Smith has done really.

All joking aside, Wire have secured themselves another very good back. Id still take our backline over there's, but they are going to be a fine side next year. Let down ultimately i suspect by their halfbacks.

Richards is an excellent winger, one of the best in SL certainly, and his kicking game is exceptional, but not sure whether I would mark him down as world class - neither is Joel for that matter, but both are top level international quality outside backs.

As a matter of interest, and specifically for those claiming he is world class, how many games did Richards play for Australia (at any level) before declaring his availability for Ireland in 2008?

If Richards isn't a world class winger then there aren't any because he's on a par with any other wingman in the world at the moment imo. He's a different type of winger to the 2 others i'd put up in his class in Vatuvai and Morris but he's an equal to the pair of them imo.

He's a huge bloke with good pace who finishes trys for fun via various methods. If he still played in Australia now he'd be a regular in the Australian national side.

I honestly believe he's proved he's that good.

As good as he is i wouldnt call him world class.What i do like about him, as you have said. Is for a big unit he has pace to burn.
He seems a solid player who does the simple things well.And his goal kicking is excellent.

If Richards was playing in the NRL he would be staight into the austrialian team. Hes as good as Morris and better than Tuiquiri, and it is only austrialian arrogence that means he is not selected for those teams, in the same way Trent Barrett was snubbed when he was in Super League.

If Richards went back to Aus next year he'd walk into the origin side and test side IMO just like Barrett did. Just hope he never decides to go back though!

understandably Joel Monaghan will get some verbal stick from the opposition fans .......... but maybe you wanna remember before you start banding around chants and so forth the RFL have issued a stern warning over Foul, Abusive and Racist chants and that any Club failing to adhere to this will be subject to Disciplinary matters and possible club fine
