| Quote ="NickyKiss"In Rugby Union Morley would be looking at a long bang for that 'tackle' last night simply because they wouldn't view it as a tackle. They have to make an attempt to wrap their arms around the player in Union but to me thats all part and parcel of the game.
He nailed him fair and square with the shoulder and everybody loves seeing hits like that. Lets make no mistake they're dangerous but this is a dangerous game and everybody loves seeing a good bashathon!
Those sort of hits could get Morley in trouble if he times them slightly wrong but luckily enough for him last night I thought he got it bang on.'"
Wasn't it Sonny Bill who got sent off in one of his first games in Ruck and Snooze for a shoulder charge?

Indeed they are a lot stricter on swinging arm tackles, particularly on a kicker.

| I didn't and still don't see anything wrong with Morleys hit, and I've watched it many mant times. Good strong solid defence, he never raises the arm above the shoulder.
We're not playing football.
There were no complaints from the Wigan players, Morley knew that there was a minute to go and he had to try to dislodge the ball.
And finally great play by Hansen for keeping hold of the ball.
Salty I'll bring you a dvd of the game on Friday if you want it.

| That's okay, Rogue. I intend to watch it again tomorrow and make a copy. What a game.
I do think Morley's intention was to dislodge the ball and I also think that was Elima's but being tall men they both went too high and connected with the head. Hence the concussion like symptoms. Thought it was worth a penalty.

| I personally thought Morleys tackle was worse than Elima's, although generally i think Elima is a snide it looked to me like he went to shoulder charge into the chest and miss timed the tackle.
Morley looked as though he intended to shoot a bit high in an attempt to flatten Hansen and get the ball back.
Saying that i was glad it wasnt penalised and Hansen got up with the ball as i think Morley's big hits are the best thing in RL.

The only thing wrong with that incident was Hansen was never actually 'tackled' as Morley hit him(legally) with the shoulder then backed off and no Wire player put a hand on him to make the ref call held(although he still did for some reason).

| Well the RFL seem to be using the fact that a player has an open fist as evidence to suggest a lack of intention and I am fully aware that the converse of a statement is not necessarily true but surely if a player has a clenched fist and a stiff arm the intent is there regardless of point of contact. Swinging/stiff arms used to be punished, it is only very recently that the focus has been moved almost entirely onto point of contact. If you have a stiff arm and just happen to hit the players shoulder before their head, it is still an incredibly dangerous tackle and its only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured.

The only difference between the two hits IMO is that Elima (i think out of instinct more than on purpose) raised his elbow.
the RFL's veiws, Morley No charge

| Elima's was a poor one and i'm really suprised he seemed so shocked to have been sent off.
He did miss the majority of that game though so it's like he's been banned for one game already. I still think he should be looking at a couple of games though on top of that.
The RFL can't go round letting players get away with incidents like that even if he did raise his elbow on instinct. He shouldn't be raising his elbow at all.

we could have had both carvell and morley missing last week in the warrington team. In lots of peoples eyes we should have had them missing.
IMO we will produce a good performance against catalans. This will show how far we have come this season. Attitude is everything. No less than a win will do regardless of elima and bosc .

The point is. It should not matter if catalans are full strength. We should concentrate on our game as we did against warrington. Madge will concentrate on what we did wrong in the warrington game this week. In preperation for catalans. Its down to what you do as a team and not down to who you face.

Yes, but the task is easier with Catalan missing 2 key players.

its all right showing frustration in the shape of a smiley . The fact is that catalans will have the same amount of players as us this week. Its a fact that wigan will be concentrating on what they are doing and not what catalans are doing. Just because 2 so called key players are down does not mean that 2 other players will not step up to the mark.

| Very bad "tackle" from Morley, as others have pointed out he had no intention of tackling Hansen in a conventional manner, just look at Hansen's head go on impact. That's enough to tell you where Morley connected, not really surprising to see a dirty tactic like this from a losing Warrington side with a minute to go.
Just because he didn't drop the ball or players react to it does not mean it was fine, christ just look at his head! Although Morley had no intention to tackle him in a normal fashion, perhaps if it had been a body shot this wouldn't of been so bad, but to connect with the head and therefore dangerous is the real difference here.

| The difference from my point of view was that Elima went in with a bent arm and the elbow became raised after the point of impact whereas Morley went in with a straight arm which stayed straight.

| Hansen fell into the tackle at the end of the day.
If any contact was made with his head then it was purely accidental due to that fact.

Different discussion.
And it wasn't a swinging arm. In the NRL you see big shots like that throughout a match which is one of many reasons why their Rugby League is a far superior spectacle.

You just agreed with AJ at the end there
All AJ is saying, is that if an opposition is missing two of their starting thirteen, then surely they are a weakened side. Nobody is saying let all the players go the pub because Catalans can't beat us, only that they are a weakened side.

| I'm not sure where all these descriptions of the Morley-Hansen collision come from. It's on YouTube right now, go and find it and watch the slow-mo replay.
Hansen does not 'fall into the tackle', Morley's arm did not end up wrapped around his head, and neither did he hit Hansen's shoulder first.
Fact is Morley went for his usual big 'shoulder' shot, where he impacts with the top of the shoulder/deltoids - he hits the side of Hansen's head with a plum shot. Hansen, if anything, sees the collision coming and tries to turn at the very last moment to avoid getting the hit full in the face. Morley, at 3" taller and over 2 1/2 stone heavier, has the advantage.
Morley had no intention of 'tackling' Hansen. As others have said, Wire desperately needed the ball and he went for a big smash. But as a result he impacts the head and nowhere else. Hard to see how it's a legal tackle.
