You still haven't reminded me why we had to move? FWIW, there are no pubs around the Reebok either, unless you want to drink in a Harvester or other sort of eating establishment or walk for 10-15 minutes, which is where we could also have ended up playing.'"
The Beehive is a nice pub, five mins walk from the stadium. I'd say that's the closest.

There's the barnstormers too. Probably just a little further, but not much.

Yeah been in that too. Over twenty years ago, wasn't sure it was still there (think there's been some house building over that way I think).

Yeah it's still there, although COVID might have changed that. They've built houses just further down on the other side of the road.

| Quote ="Ruddy Duck"What are you on about, only mentioning the reasons why you cannot compare attedances at Central Park with those at the DW Stadium.
And have you no commments to make about what others have said about the differences between attending games at the atmospheric Central Park and the souless DW Stadium?'"
I haven’t no. Mainly because Central Park is gone. It’s rubble is in Tesco’s foundations. You can sit here all night saying “Central Park this” or “Central Park that” in your grand nostalgia trip but it doesn’t change the fact it’s been flattened for 22 years. It doesn’t change the fact that even if we had no choice but to sell due to finances we’d have still had to move out within 10years to move with the times and grow the club or be like a Cas or Wakey selling the false hope and dream of a new fit for purpose stadium whilst simultaneously having no intention of moving, nor having the money to either.
DW is our home. It will be for another generation to come unless something miraculous happens. The sooner you and the other Central Park nostalgia trippers accept that (and you’ve had 22years to do so) and stop harping on about a stadium a lot of fans now had never been to - the better.
FWIW I don’t believe the DW is perfect. I’m not going to pretend it is either but it’s our home. It’s a decent walking distance to town and half decent transport links. Good enough for me.

Why reply to me and not the other supporters who have expressed more or less the same opinions about the differences between Central Park and the DW Stadium.
What we in Wigan got as a replacement for Central Park is second rate white elephant compared to many of the other new stadiums which have been built in the country!

We've literally got the second best stadium in the Super League, which is bigger than we need most of the time. Why did we leave Central Park?

Out of interest, what's at number one in your list? Are we just going off size alone, or other things? I personally prefer Hull, Wire and Saints above the DW, but it's still a top 5 - no matter how much I don't love it.

I had it behind the KCOM, roughly equivalent to Huddersfield. I was going off size/quality of the stadium, bearing in mind Ruddy Duck said it was second rate. Don't get me wrong, as a fan I prefer the tinpot ones.

Huddersfield is looking its age now, thing is 1 side could fall down and another burn down and still be better than Cas, Wakey and HKR, I too prefer Wire and Saints grounds

I’m not going to reply to everyone.
Why did we leave Central Park?
Why is the DW a white elephant? You’ll do well here especially given we don’t even own it
It is behind KCOM, Totally Wicked and HJ purely down to age rather than facilities much like Anfield or the Etihad are behind Tottenham Stadium or the Emirates. It has bars, function rooms, large seating areas and a restaurant. It has facilities good enough for the Premier League. So why then is it second rate?
Does it need work done? Yes. Long overdue. Most stadiums need yearly work doing to them. That doesn’t mean it’s second rate.
Please do answer the questions I’ve asked. I suspect you can’t or won’t but please try.

| serious question based on last couple of pages of comments
why do fans see other stadiums as better than the DW? Is it because we only visit them once (or twice) a season, and as away supporters the atmosphere is usually better than at the DW? i have a season ticket in the East Stand, which is a great seat for watching the game, but poor in terms of atmosphere for the majority of games.
IMO the DW is a better stadium than most that we go to, i would say with the exception of Hull as there is something i like about that ground. Why do people see Saints or Wire as better grounds than the DW? is it mix of seating and standing, but would you appreciate standing week in week out (or is that just me getting older ) at one of those stadiums

What about ripping the seats out and creating a standing section.

My opinion is they’re ‘better’ generally because they’re newer and have some better facilities. Other than that I don’t really see how they’re much better. If I had the choice I’d have a stand for standing but it wouldn’t be a clincher for me. I can see why others would prefer that though.

That depends entirely on the FA and their research into safe standing (if it’s still on going and assuming Latics do survive) I’d have thought.

Grounds dont have to be all seater outside the prem so if they choose to rip up the seats they can.
Shrewsbury have it already I think.
