Actually he was dying to come back to league, couldn't get in at Sale. Stuck it out for as long as he could until he come to the conclusion that it wasn't happening. So then he took up the offer from Wire.

Anyone who has a absolutely zero link to the lad but could work a couple of social network sites in recent years could see he was desperate to come back (not that I blame him).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when Burgess filled in at centre wasn't it generally on the left? One of his best skills as a winger is his ability to deliver a good left to right pass back into the hands of the centre, second row or stand off. I'm pretty sure we scored quite a few tries where Williams would put Burgess through and Burgess would then lay a well timed pass back to Williams, Faz or Gildart to finish the move. If he played at right centre he might be a little bit more comfortable when attacking (but whether he could defend as well on the right is another matter).

From my limited chances to seeing both Davis and Marshall play I've always thought Marshall looked the better try scorer which would be my primary requisite for a winger.

Davies looks in need of a rest to me. I actually think he’s bounced back pretty well from a couple of dodgy games against Leeds and the Roosters but he looks a bit down on his usual energy. The tour over to PNG with the Knights May have had an impact on that.

Kibula is a long way from being ready yes he’s a big lad but he needs a season in the championship to roughen him up and knock those nice edges off him.

On Marshall/Charnley: to be fair, looking at last season's stats, Marshall's record is pretty decent; he scored 16 tries in a curtailed season (Charnley 15), 7 assists (Charnley 5), 23 errors (Charnley 21), 62 tackle busts (Charnley 54).

Charnley is on a whole different level to a Marshall and no stats can deny that.

Well, yeah, Charnley has done it for years at SL level. But I wouldn't like to lose two left wingers and be left with two right.

When he’s motivated he is but the novelty seems to wear off pretty quickly with Charnley. He had some really uninterested years at Wigan until he was given a kick up the backside when he lost his place to Manfredi and Burgess. He looked motivated and on fire for Warrington last season but by the end of the year and at the start of this one he doesn’t look quite as desperate.

It’s what keeps him as a good superleague winger but not a great one IMO.

Not helped by the fact I don't think we have wingers centres. But it's testiment to marshalls attacking ability that he's at similar stats given the experiance gap.

If cutting the wages or looking to put the no one towards a different position then it would be one of burgess or Manfredi to go to bring in a prop of reasonable quality. With either Davis it marshal covering?

I like Marshall he's got loads of passion for the club you only need to see that when he scores id keep him at Wigan !!

Getting back to the four wingers debate. Most people seem to agree that Burgess and Manfredi would be first choice. On Friday we were having this discussion and the question was asked "When did they last play together in the same Wigan team"?

Perhaps we need to let them go along with one of Marshall or Davies and bring in two new wingers that dont have a history of being out injured?

Lockers should have retired at the end of last season. Just shows how difficult it is to replace anybody in SL, and how the quality on the field, on the whole, has diminished so rapidly over the last 5 years.
