My old man still hasn’t forgiven me for the time I was 5 and he told the guy on the turnstile at Central Park I was 4 and I started shouting he was lying and I was 5
Bloke just said “you could kill kids, throw him over”.

That’s tickled me that has. That’s a proper old grudge. My Dad still had it in for me for a while because at Wembley in 1998 I mis spelt Gary Connolly’s name on an old bed sheet, holding it proudly as the Wigan coach drove in and the look of utter bewilderment on Connollys face. He reckons I put him off
So 1998, I apologise. For context, I was barely 9 years old!

He wheels it out a couple of times a year that one
Fair old nightmare that 98 final. We missed the train home to put a top hat on it.

No he didn't
The gang of 4 did
Uncle Mo started it with his "Theyre a lovely little club comment" and it started from there. One little throwaway comment like that and nearly 35 years later we all still at each other.
Jack Robinson joined in but went too far when he tried to sue the Wigan observer to try and fraud money for damages out of them for the non Neil Cowie transfer.
It was a joke phone call that got out of hand, you know "were selling Neil cowie to Leeds and its all off now because of your article so I want 100k off you" type thing.
He was being arcastic but then went through with it and before you know it everyone's in court all lawyered up. U mean, its not like we were drowning in debt etc at that point which ultimately led to the sale of central park etc that made him do it, honest (oops there i go with it now).
Sarcasm gone too far.
You would have thought Robinson would have learnt his lesson after the gene miles, Andy Gregory and John dorahay fiascos.
You know, thinking you can replace players/coaches with cheaper versions and still carry on winning.
Maybe thats where leneghan is going wrong?
Maybe he's listened to Ruddy Duck and thought yeah, let's do it like the gang of 4 did, replace great players with cheaper bargain buys? So maybe this is all Ruddy Ducks fault?
Oops, there i go again, sarcasm, or is it????

You missed out Whelan doing the same thing during his period of ownership while trying to make his beloved Latic's the biggest club in Wigan and the town of Wigan into a football town which included building a white elephant stadium with a too large a capacity of 25,000.

| Quote ="afootingmiracle21-12"Since the removal of restrictions we've seen a Friday night gate of 5.5k vs Wakefield and 9.2k (with a sizeable contingent of lobbys) for a Sunday fixture with Leigh.
I could understand this when restrictions were still in place, but i expected crowds to return to usual pre-pandemic levels once lifted, perhaps even above these as I thought there would be a lot of clamor to get back to the rugby. What i didn't expect was that crowds would still be roughly half of what they would be for similar fixtures pre-pandemic levels.
The last two attendances have been the smallest for Wigan RL fixtures in 25+ years, and are probably below even usual latics levels (will be interesting to see how they compare in a few weeks).
But I suppose my big question is, is this because people are still nervous of covid so a lot aren't attending (if so, it seems to contradict what we are seeing day to day life, where most folk are carrying on like covid has disappeared
), or is it that 18 months away from the rugby has broken routines for many which are difficult to re-establish.
We can probably live with this short term if it is part of nervousness and crowds return proper next year, but if the latter we need to urgently look at how we can bring fans back as current levels are unlikely to be sustainable. At the moment we appear to have lost around 1/2 of our fans
Does anyone know what other SL teams have been pulling. Wire seemed emptier than usual last wednesday, but is everyone else significantly down like wigan are?'"
Yes, the club and the game of Rugby League should be worried when the Latics can draw in a crowd of 10,000 plus for their opening home game with no excuses being made by their supporters that the size of the crowd being affected by Covid19/Indian Variant which has been the case with some of our supporters about our attendances.
More to do with financial the state of the club and the level of the game in general.

As a Latics fan myself I don’t think it was that great a crowd tbh. The clubs nearly gone to the wall and is being rebuilt and there’s an excitement from the fans to see what is pretty much a full new team. The first game back comes at a time where all restrictions on crowd sizes have been lifted, unlike the rugby where they couldn’t just make tickets a free for all to start with. In those circumstances I think 10,200 was solid but not much more. Let’s put it this way, had the rugby club faced the same set of circumstances, I think there would’ve been 15,000+ on.
Ultimately that crowd at Latics tells us nothing about our own attendances.

I’m a season ticket holder for both, significant every time I go to each game is the number of kids at Latics games which is phenomenal. 10,000 ish home support with a huge chunk under 16 in the third tier of English football is future-proofing the club (ownership permitting again obviously!). The general malaise in RL will stop a fair few from coming to games but I don’t see 15,000 home fans coming for a long time. Happy to be wrong though.

Nor me but my 15,000 comment is based on us having the same circumstances as Latics. Hopefully we won’t but say we go in to administration, lose all our players, including our best kids, come within weeks of going to the wall, have no fans in the ground for 18 months at all, get bought out by new owners, buy a whole new team and have an opportunity in our first game back at home to sell as many tickets as we want and do I think we get 15,000+ on? Without any shadow of a doubt IMO.
I sit in the south stand for the rugby and the east stand for the football, so to me it feels like there are more kids at the rugby (certainly the last two games) but that’s because the South Stand us the family stand for the football and pretty much for the rugby. It was a fair crowd at Latics yesterday but not much more than that. I’d have hoped for 13-14,000 after the circumstances of the last 18 months.

A 10,000 crowd for a Latics game is a good crowd judging by their attendances prior to the administration and the pandemic!
The days of being in the money mad world of the Premiership have gone for ever for many smaller clubs like the Latics and Bolton who after being in the Premiership then end up with financial problems as a result of not attracting the same level of support in the lower divisions.

Seeing that you chose to ignore the invite I ask again, are you going to suggest a resolve for this poorly run club then or just constantly criticise it? If you do maybe we will agree with with some of your points.
Until then a number of posters on here will consider you a bit of a troll poster.

It is a good crowd no doubt about it ‘if’ we just say Latics got 7,000-8,000 before the pandemic and the same club gets 10,000 after crowds can come back but it was no normal set of circumstances on Saturday. It was a club that had been staring at the abyss, that had been ripped apart and had clubs with hundreds of millions of pounds coming in, picking over its bones (Leeds and Spurs). It is a club with a set of fans that is relieved, excited and in celebration mode of having a future now. It just wasn’t a normal set of circumstances and for that reason I’m not celebrating a good crowd (in normal circumstances) yet. In the Grand scheme of where Latics have been and where they are now it was solid.

| Looking at the ticket map online, the 10,000 sold as of last week must include a good chunk of Saints fans. Doubt we’ll get 10k on our own looking at it so far.
I’m guessing about 13-14,000.

Just checked at they do say home fans
“ Wigan Warriors are delighted to reveal that 10,000 home tickets have already been sold for The Derby against St Helens later this month.”
Saints will bring 3.5k+ I reckon.

| Just been on the website to book tickets for the Leeds game. Very straightforward. Tickets emailed as a pdf file - it's the future! Big improvement since the last time I booked tickets on there. Credit where credit is due.
