Nothing to do with the RFL. The last thing they need is to get involved in a court case with the European Union.

I'd have thought that.
He's a huge lad for me. I'd guess he's about 6ft 3 and 17-18 stones which is pretty big. He's bigger then the likes of Fielden and James Graham and plenty more besides.

I'd take him as an HB coach and cover for Tommy & Sam. Not a bad cover for one or two games is he really! Add to that no matter which HB he pairs with he's only gotta play a controlling game it should work out well

| His kicking game is still great even if he is well past his best, he could cover for goalkicker if we are desperate
He wont add to the salary cap unless needed which is another plus

| People often erode his ability because of Bradford's inability to perform.
Truth is Bradford miss him, and have gone downhill as they have relied on him when in truth he's mostly been injured.
When fit, he can still do a very good job.

Correct on all counts.
He always played well for GB / England. If you want someone to "get you round the park" (whatever that means) Deacon is as good as anyone.
His only problem IMO was his lack of pace.
He would do a good job as cover for the half backs and goal kicker, and also help to develop Sam, Joe Mellor and Sam Powell.

Upper body he might have, but his legs are like match sticks. I would be surprised though if he was 17 - 18 stone. I would say more like 16 for me. Fielden is around the 17 - 18 stone mark, Feka is too. Not too sure about Coley though.
As for Deacon quality player with bags full of expertise get him 2 year deal, coaching role and a support part in the first team. Quality I always though we should have got him earlier on in his career

Feka will be nearer 20. He was 17/18 stone when he came.

For me he is too injury prone and too slow.
A poor mans Danny Brough. He is a good organiser but for me it would be a very negative signing, he does not improve on what we have.
I would hope to see more guidance from Piggy and Locky next year when it comes to directing us round the park under our new coach. Do not think we need to pay Deacon to sit in the stands.

| He is is paid from a coaching pot then it would be ok
But if he counts on the salary cap then it is a fairly pointless use of space on the cap.

He won't only sit in the stands he'll be here 2 coach as well.
I like this signing as he'll give us options! No more musical chairs or Lockers /Gleeson at 6 when we get injuries.
IL knows our cap space and I'll doubt Deacon will take up much space

My sentiments exactly.
He's past it end of.
The only role I'd except him to be signed for would be if he were to coach are halfbacks.

| Put it this way, if Lenagan can bring in Deacon as cover at halfback and also bring a prop in with one going out either on loan or permanently then we're very looking very good.

Exactly.
As I said before Deacon gives us options and cover for any possible problems we might have faced. If any of our HB’s or hookers are struggling with form or injury we can swap them in with the least amount of fuss or hassle.
I still think Tommy and Sam are good to start week in week out for a team that challenging but having Deacs around isn’t going to be that much of a bad thing really.
Very smart signing.

A smart signing would be Orford.
I have no idea where this speculation has come from regards Deacon, there is nothing in the article to suggest it is even under consideration.
Signing Deacon as cover in my opinion would be a non starter.
We lave the players to provide direction in the squad we do not need in my opinion to sign anybody else to give us this unless they are of top quality, which Deacon is not.

I wouldn't want Orford as I don't want 2 see any of our Hookers or HB's fall down the pecking order at Wigan.
All four of Piggy, Mcilorum, Sam and Tommy are good enough and I can't wait 2 see how they go under Maguire. It would have 2 be either a true superstar under 30 or a player like Eastmond that shifts them from the team IMO.
Orford won't come cheap nor will he come over as a back up so it's a none starter really!
Deacs isn't as good of a player but he's more of a fit.

Would not mind McIllorum on loan if we could bring in someone of Orfords quality. For me Deacon is a massive no i would rather we look internally or around other junior structures there are 1 or 2 top quality junior halves available to provide cover who have the potential for long careers.
If you are signing someone on there way down they must in my opinion be top notch and while Deacon has been a good player I do not think he is a player we should even consider.

We all know the RFL can be useless but I hardly think the restrictions imposed on visas by the Immigration and Passport Agency can be laid at their door.
you make it sound as though they are in cahoots with the IPA which is giving them way too much credit as they aren't politically astute enough for that

Mcilorum’s place is at Wigan next season. The best thing for his development is to be working under the quality coaches we’ve brought in. I’d be very upset if we sent out a player who is about to hit a key time in his development to bring in another Aussie stop gap player.
In regards to the other youngsters who are ready i wouldn’t want to bring them through depending on what injuries we get. Say Piggy goes down with an injury for a few weeks we could realistically have
7-Mellor
6-Sam
Hooker interchange-Mcilorum
Thats not a good HB or hooker combo imo and put Deacon in at 7 instead and it’s not a bad situation whilst Piggy recovers.

To be fair I had not seen the thread on the main board regarding him, if it works out and he is coming to coach and act as cover in case of injury only then i think it would indeed be a good move.

| If we sign Deacon then it won't be too far from Man Utd signing Owen he hasn't done too bad since he signed, & many of the Utd youngsters have already said how good it is to have another experienced player around. So if Deacon can improve Sammy then i'm very much in favour of the move.
