I think Pat would have been chosen to deal with Morris. I said this the day before the game when I claimed Morris was their biggest threat.

| I think the one aspect other than goal kicking that were missing from Richards, is his ability in the air. We kicked time and time again to the wings against FC, yet came away with nothing. With Richards on the wing that more than likely wouldn't have been the case.

I'll have a pint of what this lad has been on.
There's been loads better than Hanley played for Wigan. Boston,McTigue, Bill Ashurst, Andy Gregory,Sean Edwards,Brett Kenny, oh and we would have had Wally Lewis if it hadn't been for Hanley.

| Quote ="Pemps"Lockers should have got MOS in my opinion. Carney scored many a try that Richards couldn't have scored. Leeds in the playoffs? Nothing wrong with Dallas' defence at all. I also don't really like Pat at fullback. Defensively good but offers nothing in attack that a modern fullback, Tomkins, Roberts, Phelps, Greenshields, Slater, Minichello...., should offer.
it sounds like I don't rate him but I really do think he's a good winger but apart from his goal kicking I don't think we're missing him that much. I mentioned this when a thread was started by Hogan regarding a new contract for him. I'd love him to stay but I get the impression that some on here would pay him the earth to sign on again.'"
I think you're concentrating waaaaay too much on the attacking side of FB here tbh Pemps. Just consider Pat under the high ball as compared with Sam or Roberts. Compare the yards forward when running the ball out between the three (and not just the odd eye-catching break). Look at the comparison when it comes to one on one tackling. Who would you prefer to count on if the opposition team make a break...Pat, Sam or Amos? Frankly Pat is by far the better in all these disciplines. So he doesn't make the occassional eye-catching break that the other two do. I'll happily live with that. Let's put it this way; there's never been an instance where pat has been named at Fullback where I thought "Oh no...the opposition will be able to exploit his weaknes" because, quite simply, he doesn't have one! Add to that he is still sooooooooo far in front of the other 2 when it comes to kicking and I think you're showing a very blinkered (and if I may say so) naive view here. Sure Sam has the most potential and is more dangerous in broken field and for those reasons is the right incumbant, but to belittle Pat's abilities there shows little insight in my opinion.

I never saw Boston, McTigue, Ashurst so can't comment on that.
Hanley is head and shoulders the best player I've seen at Wigan.
Didn't he play in every position at some point in his time at Wigan? (or did I dream that)? The most complete player this country has produced in the last forty years IMO.

I saw Gregory, Kenny and Edwards and thought all were world class players. Hanley was a level above them, best player I've seen in a Wigan shirt.

| The Hoff was great at Hudds, infact the team seemed to want that win this week , the same desire last game would have dispatched Hull far easier.
Hanley was the most complete player to cope with RL I have seen. Pace, power, balence and I can't remember seeing him drop off a tackle! RL is a team sport and I think other players have had more rugby skills to their games, he would always make any great starting line up, a true legend. Many Wigan players can stake the claim has best for many reasons.

And rightly so. His attitude, commitment and sheer professionalism in his approach on and off the field is second to none from ANY overseas player I've seen at this club.
First class player and I would love to see him here next year.
To think we once had overseas players like Dennis Moran and David Vaealiki

Hoffman summed up his brilliant attitude and leadership last week against Hull when Charnley went in for his first try. The players looked lethargic for alot of that game and only a few made an effort to rush to congratulate Charnley. One of those was Hoffman who noticed a few of the players just ambling over and he turned and give them a boll*cking telling them to get their ar*es over which they duly did.
He noticed in that moment a few players who were going through the motions and let it be known he wasn't happy about it. It reminded me of one of our greatest ever leaders in Faz.

| Got to say I fully agree with what most have said, the guys been immense. I dunno why we've not got a song for him yet, he's been our best player this season so far imo. I saw him after the Salford game, I said "well played pal, you was brilliant tonight" he replied "cheers mate, you guys(fans) were fantastic too"
All that talent but as humble as pie, the full package of what we want from players at our Club.
Excellent signing!

Very Dave Furner like by the sounds of it.
As good as he was on the field he was even better off it. I met him a couple of times through work and he was a diamond.
Gutted when he left and hopefully we won't be with the Hoff at the end of this season.

| Hoffman was unbelievable last night and he has really added something to the team, indeed I dont think we would have won last night without him. Even his interviews say a lot about his work ethic and the type of player that he is. All clubs should only be looking to sign this calibre of import imo, top players who are at the peak of their careers.
