In the normal world, you'd expect Bentham to now be getting uncomfortable about having a rep for always overseeing matches in which one particular team loses. But then you remember who that particular team is and who Bentham's boss is, and you realise that no-one is going to ask any awkward questions.

However he got in serious trouble with the RFL for comments he made to a junior official regarding how he was going to ref the Leeds cup game.

This has only been kept in house as it would bring the game into disripute.

Just what I was thinking.

The Leeds one in the CC is the only game I feel he's had a big hand in our losing. Bradford, we switched off. Much the same agains Harlequins. We beat ourselves on both occasions. Saints at home, we had a few decisions that went against us and that contributed, but we weren't good enough across the 80mins to win it anyway. The trouble now is that we've lost every game he's taken this season, so it's become a bit of a 'thing', and it'd be good to get that nipped in the bud before the play-offs, not least because he'll almost certainly get appointed to one of our games there, especially if Ganson's "on holiday".

Andy Coleys two stupid penalties just before half time, Paul Prescotts stupid penalty with about ten minutes to go, Sam Tomkins standing too close to the play the ball so as not to be able to get the kick away (or have a better option on that tackle) and Martin Gleesons poor one on one tackle on Smith cost us that game far more than Bentham.

Is this the one which you were winning until the last moments, despite not being able to score a try, because Bentham gave you (at least) 5 kickable penalties?

And sin-binned a Wigan player at a key stage for a technical offence that was something of nothing (despite Danny McGuire's ridiculous overracting), and allowed two Leeds players to remain on the field despite attacks to the heads of Wigan opponents.

Get over yourself.

Bentham didn't cost us the other matches he reffed - he didn't even cost us the Leeds game, but he gave us a very raw deal that day, and you pretending otherwise won't change the fact.

And yet Leeds made many mistakes to balance it out. I still think Bentham tipped the scales and there's a little part of me still seething inside.
Sends a Wigan player off for next to nothing.
Doesn't send Senior off for kicking Joel who missed over 20 important minutes of the game.
Doesn't send Peacock off for two swipes at Sam's head. The league game showed that he was targetted and I don't just mean the Ablett attack.

And gave Leeds seven - thats clear bias to Leeds that is!

The worst refereeing "mistake" against Leeds in the CC, though, was by the VR ( the one currently on bail) when he failed to give the Lee Smith knock on from the high kick, even though Bentham mentioned that to him. Instead of a Wigan scrum 10 metres from the Leeds line it was a handover. Leeds then got a penalty to take them upfield and then Coley was harshly judged to have barged late into a Leeds player which resulted in a kickable penalty - none of this would have happened if Ganson hadn't made a howler!

Same as in the Saints game, it was the VR who awarded 2 dubious Saints tries and the touchjudge who judged Carmont had impeded the Saints player while Carmont was playing the ball. Another game changing moment and harsh/wrong decision which led to 2 Saints tries in the following 5 minutes!

None of these were Bentham's fault - failing to punish Peacock/Senior harshly was.

I see robert hicks has got the very nice weekend away in the south of france, must have been gansons game before what happend at that hotel in haydock.

How many more times will Ganson be arrested before he gets the boot? This guy may be 'the best ref in RL' at the moment, but I can't see him keeping his job for long. Russell Smith and Karl Kirkpatrick and even Ashley Klein could do a better job without the need to make their own headlines.
