| Anybody else think it being geared up for an announcement at the game tonight? Either DW saying its at the DW and claiming he is the saviour of the challenge cup or DW announcing an alternative ground and blaming the RFL for drawing Wigan out first.

If they know today then they'd be mad not to mention it ahead of the game so that tickets can go on sale before kick off.

Maybe on 13 May they would, but "hypocritical" would be a better word to describe them tonight.

Why would they? Not everyone wants to protest about it.

| Quote ="bewareshadows"Surely a boycott will only hurt Wigan in the pocket. Why not go with something that will have more impact. If people see empty seats on TV then it's just another CC match under supported.
However if those TV cameras see bank upon bank of Wiganers wearing their shirts inside out, or sponsor ship covered in black tape.
Now that will be a talking point on national TV.
Although I would go shirt inside out, it's easy to do and everyone can do it no matter the shirt. You are still showing support and showing displeasure. Absense is ignored, protest sends a message.'"
Let us have some proper impact. D0 THE WIGAN WALK IN REVERSE.
By that I mean everyone in the South Stand stay in the bar or outside until 5 min after kickoff and then slowly walk in,what an effect that would have.
Very cringeworthy for the powers that be.

That's actually pretty funny. Not really fair on the players though to walk out to nobody.

| The lack of info and the delay is more embarrassing then the possibility of moving grounds.
I'd have no problem with us playing infront of a packed house at Leigh with a cracking atmosphere rather then a half empty DW but this waiting is just dragging out the embarrassment and making Lenagan look a bit of a laughing stock.
I've always joined in with the banter about announcements and never understand why people feel the need to know things like next seasons signings 8 months in advance but this is different. It's an announcement about a game that's taking place in 8 days! People have lives and plans to make. The crowd would have been no more then 13-14k at the DW anyway but after all this it may struggle to sneak much over 10k.

Time of text 15.08, REPEAT 15.08 THIS AFTERNOON.
This came from the office at Leigh Sports Village,
Leigh v Leeds Friday 20.00 Sky Sports ( 8.00 at night for those not quite up to it)
Wigan v St Helens Saturday 14.30 BBC (Half past 2)
Seating tickets £18.00
Standing " £16.00
I posted the above yesterday about 9.00pm after seeing a text which was supposed to have come from the office at Leigh rl.
I later checked the Leigh board and they said it was true and that the Leigh club was advertising the sale of Ticket sales on its website.
I have just checked the Leeds official Web Site, and they also put the sale of tickets on its site, the time sales went on the site 3.36pm which was about the time I SAW THE TEXT.
It seems that a lot of descisions where made mid-afternoon yesterday and no one will convince me that the Wigan-Saints descision was'nt made at the same time
Maybe its time to go down to the ticket office at Leigh, sad to say but I may get more news off them.

| Wouldn't surprise me if we have to wait until after this weekends football results.
If the tics are safe then we play at home as Sunday would be a nothing game as Wolves already down.
If the tics still needs points to stay up then we go on the road, either way it sucks not knowing!!!!!!!!!!

That would just show how much of a joke the "24 hour rule" is becuase either we can play there or we cant and either there is this rule or there isnt.

Keep thinking ideas, but there's a pre-match tribute to Keith Mills tonight that is far more important.

That must be the tack we take if this happens. "We now KNOW there isn't a 24-hour rule, Mr. Whelan, so what have you got to say for yourself?"
It would be nice if one of our local press would stop messing around and actually try to tackle him on the subject.

I have just been down to the Leigh ticket office, this is what happened.
I said to the Lady"will you have Wigan Saints tickets on sale at Leigh when it is announced".
Answer,"is it on here"?.
I said "thats the info I am being told".
She said,"hang on a bit and I will ring upstairs to the office", she rang upstairs and then said.
"We hav,nt been told anything,we where waiting on Wigan to make their mind up until yesterday afternoon, before we could make a descision ourselves".
Thats it,I feel now that this is almost like everyone closing ranks,Clubs,Owners and TV companies bickering between themselves.
Finished. At lunchtime I am back down to Leigh for a Leigh v Leeds ticket.
I will see you Leigh lads in the Goose next Friday.

to be honest i have tried to keep my opinion on people to minimum but if it is the case that there isnt a rule and we do play there just becuase latics are safe then something needs doing and IL needs to take a strong stance and like you say the press need to tackle the issue but i will reserve all judgment until an official statement from the club

Just to throw another spanner in the works.
I'm not a football fan but....
Say Wigan and Aston Villa both draw this weekend.
QPR win.
Blackburn draw (as above they play latics) and Bolton lose.
Latics are safe.
For people then to say the game is meaningless is incorrect.
Wigan, Villa and QPR postions 15,16, and 17 would still not be determined. With £800k (I think?) per place for Prem League prize money, there would still be £1.6m up for grabs such is the vast wealth of the league.
£1.6m that almost a full salary cap!
ATEOFD Mr DW only cares about 1 thing - ££££ he will do what suits best. Don't think he would sh.t on the Latics if the roles and financial situation were reversed. I believe he would.

The WEP have gone away from that so-called rule now, putting it squarely on Whelan:
Quote Latics chairman and stadium owner Dave Whelan does not want Warriors’ match played 24 hours before a potentially-vital Premier League fixture to protect the pitch – but some suggest he may give way if his club have already secured their top-flight status.

| Not commented on this up to now as I think previously this thread has been unhelpful.
We've all been going on about how embarressing the matter is that this story is being splashed about everywhere, yet nearly 60 pages of panicing about no news, from the outset of the cup draw, has caused some of this unwanted media attention IMO and is one of the reasons this story has been picked up!
That said, now has come the time where it is getting beyond ridiculous IMO - I expected an announcement yesterday at latest, and now im completely shocked to see nothing has been announced this morning. The game is a week away FFS- we need something from the club, even if its just to confirm negotiations are ongoing because I can see this being the worst attended wigan saints game in years at this rate, wherever we play as we will have less than a week to sell tickets!!! - People need to make plans and all this uncertainty will put off all but the core wigan support at this rate (especially when there is an easy option to watch it on TV and not bother yourself chasing news about the venue and when you may finally be able to get your hands on tickets!)
At least we would appreciate some openess and some news at this point and not be being treated like idiots. How thick do the club think we are when the normally excellent website keeps you up to date as soon as anything happens, to now where we have days and days with no comment about our biggest game of the season so far! Prior to the featherstone game we had two news articles - one advising straight after about day and time, and another once we had received tickets keeping us informed when they go on sale. Now we have nothing!
Perhaps this is Banker Whealans big plan - Hold back on letting us play to the last minute, we have no time to sell tickets, leaving the stadium half empty while he floods free tickets for the pathetics last game of the season, and as were on national tv, tricks the worlds media into the latics lie that we are no longer a rugby town!
We MUST have an announcement today IMO as this cannot go on - Given the lateness id also suggest we consider going old school in respect of the tickets for this one wherever we play, and simply advise fans to turn up early and pay on the day - This at least will make people clamour to get there on matchday, and solve the practical problems of one ticket office, of about 4 members of staff!!! trying to sell tickets to 15k+ wiganers in less than a week (and those fans needing to make arrangements to buy tickets!) which is clearly not going to happen!!

| I have a great idea that will show that the club are 'with it' with the youth of today and actively engaging in 'envelope pushing' social media and fan interaction.
There should be NO announcement at all about venue. We could all buy tickets for a match with no declared venue, possibly queueing overnight and being interviewed without our false teeth in for breakfast tv.
The club and the RFL could then maximise their youth culture potential by getting the 15,000 or so ticket buyers to congregate in market square as a 'flash mob' doing a choreographed dance with flags hung from nearby buildings to create an atmosphere. Half an hour before kick off a message could be bluetoothed out naming the venue with a free 'Walkabout' T-shirt being given out to the first 50 fans to make it to whichever stadium is named, lead there by the Brigantes walking along the middle of the main arterial route carrying a flag, and singing abusive songs. A minutes silence could then be held, observed impeccably by the rugby league family, for anyone trampled underfoot in the stampede to the stadium.
The event could be sponsored by Easirent, with no money changing hands for the free advertising but players that are homegrown and have been at the club more than 10 years appearing on a transit van rather than a standard Bedford rascal. All money could go towards our new stadium.

That's the problem though. It's not a simple decision. While there's money involved, people will want to get the best deal for themselves. Logistically, it is a simple decision: 2.30 on Saturday at the DW.
At the moment, the ball really is in DW's court. If he digs his heels in then it comes back on us to look for alternative venues.
I can't see Whelan caving in though. I doubt he would want to undermine his own "24hr rule". If he did it would only set a precedent for the future when this situation inevitably repeats itself.

| We have become a laughing stock, come on Mr Leneghan show some leadership and announce a venue. Everyone on this site appreciated your efforts to secure a home tie to begin with, but now you just appear weak and indecisive. The prospect of a Saints v Wigan game has ruined by this charade

So we await DW to make his mind up , wait for latics result from this weekend to secure PL spot, whealan then digs his heels in to save face.
Don't have to be a rocket scientist to make a decision from there really, as if as others have said there will be an ever decreasing amount of tickets to be sold, the match itself will be put on at a considerable loss to the club.
The last time this happened, I think I'm right in saying the fans where told it wouldn't happen again! de ja vu strikes, very poor and sad really, especially as we as a town are asked to support both teams and this just drives a big wedge down the middle of that request
