Article in The Sunday Times stating Edwards has rejected both Wigan and Wasps to stay on as defensive coach at Wales.

If this is true, which I don’t think we have any reason to doubt, it is an absolute disgrace for both sides and an embarrassment.

Say what you like about IL/KR, but they have tried their best for the club. Edwards, on the other hand, has deliberately screwed you all yet most still think the sun shines from his rear.

For a Saints fan you talk a lot of sense, Edwards should be banned from ever entering the town again arrogant mercenary Ar**hole, he would have been nothing without this town and this club, then to treat us like this is shameful.

Part of me still does want him at Wigan. Almost like “the one that got away”, all this has left a very bitter taste in mine and most other Wigan fans mouths but the over riding feeling I get is what could have been had IL actually signed Edwards instead of a ridiculous handshake.

I do thoroughly believe Edwards would have taken us to the next level, he reminded me of SW funnily enough during the press conference. He came across as bleeding cherry and white and demanding nothing but perfection from his players as per SW. He was portrayed, and came across as, a straight shooter, an honest and loyal man who stood to his word. For that to be thrown back in the Wigan’s fans faces after such a fanfare in the announcement is disgusting.

There’s fault on both sides here. Both sides ought to be ashamed of themselves for the way it was handled and neither come out smelling of roses to us Wigan fans. SE comes out as a hero to the Wales RU fans and once again RL in general is made to look the mugs. I think we all knew this day was coming but right now it feels like another kick in the teeth in an already poor season.

So what now?

I imagine SE non coming will be announced by the club shortly in which case Lam should be given another few months to turn it around. If we’re still looking like we are he should be moved on and a new permanent coach brought in. In any case recruitment for 2020 now needs to be a priority. HB’s, props and a hooker please Mr Lenaghan, oh and do remember to actually have them sign a contract, yes?

The way Edwards has fed uncertainty through the media, tells me he never really wanted to come to Wigan. Even if IL had a contract to wave about, I believe that the only thing Wigan would gain is a compensation payment.

I dunno, the SE sage is like the tomkins contract, nothing agreed both parties go find a contract the wigan come along with one and its too late. Why didnt we get a contract signed when it was agreed? It baffles me and everyone not blaming the club are baffling em also, it cant be so cherry and white tinted that you think its ok what the club have done. Is Edwards faultless? no is he fluff, but to say Shaun did we not say some words and you said so on camera not enough? no its not and its amateur to think so, my view on the club has sky dived this year and am ashamed of the laughing stock the owner has made of the club, its ok touting the likes of barrett about but my god a failed NRL coach isnt floating my boat.

You know how IL likes to do things, he has known all this time that Edwards isn't coming. He will be trying to sort the replacement so both are announced in quick succession.

Waiting for sort out a replacement before announcing Edwards isn’t coming is as if they’re trying to look in control when it’s blatantly obvious they’re not. I’d have more respect for all parties if the club came out and said “We agreed a verbal contract, but we made a mistake of not getting Edwards to sign a contract for whatever reason, that has come back to bite us on the backside as Shaun has sought a more secure future elsewhere. We are currently looking for our next coach, Adrian Lam is being considered as a candidate and is in the best position to showcase his skills as custodian of the coaches position now. Once we have something finalised we will let you all know in due course. We hope this clears things up”

Hardly surprising to us. I believed up until IL gave SE “time to think” (utterly ridiculous IMHO) that he was still coming.

We ALL now need to move on. The club needs to source a new Head Coach for 2020 and simultaneously start targeting players who will actually improve us and not ones such as Sammut/Isa/TT.

Two quality halves and solid props will be a good start. Get cracking Mr Lenaghan
