| Quote ="Jeff the God of Biscuits"Why not get carried away? We're in a good run of form at the beginning of a season for the first time in nearly 10 years. We're fans, it's our job to get excited about our team doing well. Nobody here is demanding silverware, we're just enjoying winning comfortably and going into games swimming in confidence. I'd much rather be getting excited about us being 100%, best attack & best defense than be moaning because we where beaten at home by HKR & Catalans.'"
Agreed, we are fans, surely that is our job!
As long as the club remains realistic which i am sure they are, then i see no problem with a bit of over excitement on our behalf.

| There's no reason why we shouldn't enjoy our form for the time being. The new coaching set-up have made a huge difference in terms of tactics and morale among the team - and in marked contrast to the last few seasons, we've been a pleasure to watch in attack or defence... so far.
Time will tell whether this is a good start or the beginning of an epic winning run.
But when we do lose, whether it's this week, the week after or sometime in June or July , let's keep some perspective. There's some way to go until we play the important games (i.e. the one where you win a trophy).

| First time for years I feel confident we can go into every game with a good prospect of winning.
There are some tough games to come as always, Saints, Leeds, Huddersfield all home and away, plus Warrrington at home.
Like eveyone I'm very happy with the way things are going, the fitness of the team, a team playing like a team, the results and the manner of those wins.
As for the season's prospects I'll be looking at where we are when we've played Saints away on Good Friday. That is the ninth game and a third of the season gone. By then we'll know how we are doing and also how the main opposition clubs are going too.
The top of the league position is excellent and the massive points difference is worth another league point at present.
Better than I expected at this stage and well done to all.

| congrats to a great start to the season and i can see you guys doing well this season, certainly better than last season.
I do however think that if you make the grand final and come up against either leeds or saints i think that the big game syndrome will kick in and the regular grand final team will cope better

Certainly the current wigan team is pretty inexperienced when it comes to playing in finals, in super league.
The only thing they are experienced at is losing semi finals. 3 eliminators and 2 CC semi's in the last 3 seasons.

And in beating Leeds?
Oh, and the coach has pretty good experience of winning Aussie Grand Finals.
But go on, blow out as much hot air as you want. Only a real windbag would come on here boasting after the start to the season your club has had.

Hang on, I'm mistaken I'm sure they said it in 2007 or possibly 2006?
How often do they come around? Wasn't the last one 1956?
In all seriousness I think we can have the best of both arguments on this thread. The OP is right in everything he says and I agree. However, as this is the best start since 2001 and the Rugby on offer is entertaining, I'm going to enjoy it. In fact, I'm loving it.'"

You were right the first time.'"
So winning a cup made it "the year of the wolf" ????
OK. If you're happy with that, then enjoy the mediocrity.
To Wigan, winning the cup is nice.
Actually, it's VERY nice.
But it doesn't mean it's been a successful year.
If we repeated your year, winning the cup but finishing OUTSIDE of the play-off places, I don't think many on here would call that success.
To lift the cup, you only have to win 4 matches.
I'd rather play consistently well enough to finish in the top 2/3 of the league and still have a shot at the cup as a consolation if we don't get 1st or the GF.
Don't get me wrong - I'd love to lift the cup this year, but NOT if it's at the expense of the league, and I CERTAINLY would not trade it for finishing 1-3 in the league.

Id take a winning the Cup every year granted we was crap in the league but it was a weird season we was bottom of the league after 3-4 games and Smith had to turn everything around it turned out that we couldn't compete on both levels last season.
There only two Cups on offer we got one thats a success to me.
And its 5 to win the Cup as you found out last season its not that easy.

And the Irony is you should never have beaten Hull KR in the previous round.
[size=50Just made it up, I have absolutely no idea what happened in the game other than Warrington won by one point[/size

Really?
You'd rate a top 3 position the league but a GF loss higher than lifting the Challenge Cup?
Surely not. Let's leave the trophy devaluing for football.
I can almost understand the FA cup losing some of its prestige (although, having grown up with the FA Cup final being THE event in the football calendar, it pains me) because of the £££ the Champs League attracts but we don't really have this in RL.
A big shiny silver trophy, with a fantastic history (as Wigan fans you should know that better than most) over a couple of play off games EVERY time.
