| Quote ="Nnibly_Warrior"As I have just posted on the FB announcement...
Sponsors are about business and money, don't get me wrong, it's lovely when clubs such as ours do charity shirts (Wigan & Leigh Hospice, Joining Jack, etc) but sponsors are about revenue and revenue only. I struggle to see and quite honestly don't believe that a local social housing project offers financial gains equal or greater to that of the biggest airline in the middle east and one of the top ten in the world.
Wigan, the biggest RL club in the Northern Hemisphere and the most well known name in RL history on a double winning season, a massive missed opportunity to bring a big money, big name, multi national corporation sponsor not only to the team but to the Super League itself. Decided to show a compassionate side instead, yes the sentiment is lovely, but Wigan RLFC is a rugby team and a business, not a charity.'"
Have to agree. Houses for Homes doesn't really scream double-winning world famous team does it?

I'm sure paddypower would have sponsored us and advertised us to a larger market by marketing the odds of our game either on TV or to a wide audience on the Internet.'"
I'm not a Wigan fan but I am interested in the business side of RL.
The amount of negativity on this thread is astounding, and tbh if I had my own company I would steer well clear of RL clubs as their fans are never happy with anything.
On your point, this is why it's not worth discussing with many RL fans as they deal in fantasy. Why are you sure Paddypower would sponsor Wigan?
You have basically just picked a company out of thin air and said they would sponsor Wigan.
On the comparisons with my club Warrington, it is worth noting that last year we had a local company sponsoring us - there is absolutely a place for local sponsors and national sponsors.

Paddypower will literally sponsor anything as will most online betting companies, I'm using paddypower as an example. Like Rads says in his book why not take a hit and have Nike make the shirts or Playstation sponsor the Superleague.
At the me of the day RL needs to build on the success of the WC and to do that it needs to look attractive to the heathen, with big sponsors it would help somewhat.

Or Stobarts?
I mean they're a national company so why not take a hit just so we can have them sponsoring us?

| PS
As with the kit threads that will inevitably star soon I think some people are more worried about being "embarrassed" by fans of other clubs than anything to do with the commercials etc behind it.
As with the "pink" kit, I couldn't care less if we played in tu-tus and ballet shoes with Leigh cat and dogs home on the front as long as we're winning and the clubs getting stronger.
PPS (with happy clapper alert).
I can't seriously believe anyone is knocking our marketing teams with record crowds and A Profitable club in these difficult financial times?

Yes.
I am convinced we could of attracted a bigger name but I do know that this deal will benefit the local community more than if we had gone for a more well known name and that is more important to the borough and in particular the deprived communities that will benefit.
Wonder how 'Paddypower' would help local communities?

Whereas Nike and Coca Cola just pee money up the wall like it's going out of fashion of course. That's how they got so big, a none-aggressive commercial culture

In this case yes they are!
In fact many housing organisations do tremendous work for local deprived communities including educational programmes and funding for community projects.

| I suppose, at the end of the day, it's an indirect complement to the club that people are worried we'll have an unimpressive logo on our shirts.
I mean they could have more serious things to be upset about:
Unimpressive team. Unimpressive captain. Unimpressive coach. Unimpressive support coaches. Unimpressive chairman. Unimpressive youth arm. Unimpressive track record. Unimpressive business plan. Unimpressive attendances. Unimpressive ambitions ...

I just think that some people assume that a well known name on the front of a shirt equals a good sponsorship deal which could not be further from the truth.

| Wigan Warriors are delighted to announce a new agreement which will see ‘Houses for Homes' become Main Club Partners for 2014.
The agreement will see the Houses for Homes logo appear on both the home and away players' and replica shirts during the forthcoming campaign when the Warriors aim to successfully defend their Super League Title and Tetley's Challenge Cup which were won at Old Trafford and Wembley respectively during 2013.
The initial one-year agreement has been struck due to the strong community values that both organisations share. The focus of the partnership will be firmly on how the two organisations and their respective charitable Foundations will collaborate on a wide range of innovative community projects.
Houses for Homes is a national company which is based in Wigan and has grown steadily since its formation in 2002. The company supplies social and extra care housing stock and accommodation to people across the country through registered housing providers, turning houses into homes and estates into thriving communities.
The philosophy behind Houses for Homes has always been one of affordability and sustainability; supplying social housing for the community to a high standard of quality. The company works in partnership with all of its stakeholders; development partners, housing providers, local authorities and care providers to achieve this.
Double winners Wigan Warriors also hold strong community beliefs, not only in developing Rugby League throughout the region but also using their world-famous brand to make a positive difference to the lives of hundreds of thousands of people and fans nationally every year.
Speaking about the agreement, Wigan Warriors Commercial Director Geoff Warburton said;
"We are delighted to announce Houses for Homes as our new Main Club Partners for 2014. HfH is a fantastic company which provides ordinary people with opportunities for better housing and in doing so it shares a unique synergy with our own beliefs. There is no doubt this partnership is a completely different proposition to the traditional sports sponsorship models that are out there and it will make a difference to communities throughout the country."
Ann Fairhurst, Director of Houses for Homes added;
"Our CEO Phil Shanks and I have always been impressed with the club's work and commitment to communities both in Wigan and further afield. Becoming Wigan Warriors' Main Club Partner will hopefully continue many years into the future as one of the cornerstones of the Houses for Homes Foundation project which will see us reinvest our partnership assets to support local communities and charitable initiatives across the country."
I dont think half the posters in this thread have actually read this on the website...its the reason the club went for this sponsor , and it should be applauded , not moaned about

| I have read the entire thread and all the opinions for and against so this it not a gut reaction...
[uNot good enough.[/u
The money a sponsor give you is only part of the equation. It's the exposure they give [iyou[/i as a club (and the sport as well).
When companies sponsor sport they also promote it! It features in all their advertising (....sponsors of Wigan RL). They arrange corporate events and so on.

You mean like the Stobart deal?
I do not know the details of the deal but I can only assume it is the best for Wigan and our strategy.
It is not Wigan's responsibility to promote the code. First and foremost we look after ourselves.
If you look at the recent success if the World Cup this in my opinion was bourne out of being realistic and not overly ambitious, it was pitched at the right level.
You would have to think given the way the club is run this deal is best for us.
I get the corporate promotional aspect of a sponsorship deal but realistically what would you expect from this. Nike are not going to drop Tiger Woods image and replace it for Harison Hanson, Pepsi are not going to suddenly start slapping pictures of Locky on its cans in place of Messi. I appreciate you would probably get a bit more exposure but if the model of the Stobart deal is to be followed you would have to be a very brave Chairman indeed given the epic failure if that with the RFL.
We are in good hands and this may well be another step on the road to a multinational sponsorship deal in the future, but right now the powers that be that have all the financial and marketing information to hand have decided this is the best deal for us.
I am comfortable to assume that our club has made the right decision for where we are right now and where we want to be in 5 years time etc.

I have not seen any tea bags with a red V across them, I have not seen anything other than their ground or shirts with the tea bags name across It. think you may be going a little OTT again. Its a sponsor who will be putting money into the club, unlike the last one who failed to pay their last few instalments because they went belly up. Get over it and move on.
