| Do we have to have a thread similar to this after every away game?
The atmosphere was pretty drab yesterday but that will be down to the performance.
The only thing I will say on the matter of the Brigantes is who was the tool who had the full face scalf on? I'm sure he thought he was an Italian football hooligan and are the type of people who you should want to keep away from the group, its rugby league not foreign football ffs.

| After reading some of the comments on this thread - ie:

Why happened to them today?

again, the support at times was good and is appreciated by all at the club, keep it up.

I think the Brigantes performances so far this season (albeit still good) are not as impressive as the start of last season. I don't know if something is different/less people are involved.
I think I must be missing something here. Why is the atmosphere/vocal support of the team the sole responsibility of the Brigantes?
At the game yesterday they tried their damndest to get people singing and backing the lads, yet most people just sat there & didn't join in.
Then they have to provide answers on here as to why they didn't generate an atmosphere for us all to enjoy.
If all the people who 'think they (the Brigantes) are doing a good job' and urge them to 'keep it up' etc. actually joined in - or God forbid actually started a song themselves, we would have the loudest support in the league. Where are all those people who have bought Brigantes merchandise and/or have said that they back what they are trying to do (why not say 'we' - we are all Wigan fans wanting the same thing) when the team need vocal backing?
Surely everyone needs to play a part in creating as loud a vocal support as possible. Whether you're 'in' the Brigantes or not (as far as I'm aware there isn't any form to fill in or past employer references to provide - there's no membership card - it's just a name used to attempt to give focus for a more vocal support by ALL Wigan fans - it's all inclusive), then for FS join in!
There have been a number of occasions, especially at the DW, when you overhear some people saying that " the atmosphere is poor today", yet when a song starts up - there is silence from them, as though it is up to someone else to provide them with the atmosphere they want.
Singing:
1. Isn't a crime.
2. Isn't something to be embarrassed about.
3. Gives a great sense of togetherness/community spirit.
4. Is good for the soul!
5. Feels bl***dy great when everyone joins in.
To ALL Wigan fans:
1. Surely the task of a supporter is to support
2. Learn the words.
3. Sing.
4. Don't leave it to someone else to provide an atmosphere.

Well, first things first. I am a Wigan fan, and have been a season ticket holder for 20 years, and I don't need anyone to represent me, give me a sense of belonging, etc, etc, etc.
Even though you state that it is not the sole responsibility of the "Brigantes", whatever they may be, to create an atmosphere, you do intimate that this group are the only ones actually creating any atmosphere that is present.
Any chance you can tell me who has been creating atmosphere at Wigan games for the last 30 years?
By the way, if the Brigantes are the gang of 12 year olds with a drum in the South Stand, please tell them to shut up, as they aren't helping.

With regard to your comment of 'Any chance you can tell me who has been creating atmosphere at Wigan games for the last 30 years?'
Obviously I can't give you names and addresses, but I presume that the fans you refer to have been creating an atmosphere by making noise rather than standing/sitting in silence - which seems to me is just what the Brigantes are encouraging everyone to do.
As far as I'm aware, from the appearance of the people you are talking about, I would take a stab at them not all being a 'bunch of 12 year olds'. But you could be right - there some bl**dy big 12 year olds knocking about these days.
You also appear to want me to tell fans who sing to shut up. I'm sorry but I won't be able to help you there. If you want them to be quiet - I suggest that you do that yourself at the next home match.
I see you also think that the Brigantes 'aren't helping'. In what way are fans who sing not helping? Not helping with what? Putting the players off with all that noise?
And thanks for letting the fans who sing know that you don't want them to represent you. I'm sure it will be duly noted by all concerned and a real weight off their shoulders.

I'm finding that a lot with these brigantes threads; I was just debating whether to read the earlier posts or not.
They all end the same, some one says something fairly neutral / critique, they get jumped by one of the brigantes for being negative, someone says something really extreme about the brigantes (which usually sounds unfounded) and they're simply insulted.

Usually, it's right to ignore the bait but when someone (and a mod at that) tries to stir things up by making remarks about hooliganism and Police surveillance of the group then that has to challenged. I don't believe it was a Tongue in cheek post, wink or no wink. The club read these forums after all. In some respects I'm not bothered what some people think about us but suggestions about hooliganism, racism etc need to be challenged. Do you suggest we let such slurs go without any response?

Just a reminder of what he said.
Quote ="Sadfish"I've seen the Police filming matches before, when Saints played at Wilderspool a few years ago I was chatting to one of the cameramen, he said they use it for a couple of things, mainly to show good crowd behaviour practices that RL Clubs have, and secondly to use in presentations showing the difference between different sports groups of supporters.
I would guess it's also used as bit of an archive in the event of trouble, but that rarely happens at RL these days so I doubt that is their main reason.'"

There's no need to lock anything just because someone has had a sense of humour by-pass. It was established early on what plod were up to as one of the group had talked to them. Just because some are overly sensitive to the word Brigantes being used when it doesn't fit into their agenda is their problem. Being a mod doesn't stop you posting things that might upset the over-sensitive.

They would also film for evidence gathering purposes, I imagine they had some intelligence (good or bad) for potential disorder. Games are catogorised and depending on the potential for disorder you have no officers to alot. It's important to capture images if incidents happen and suspects can be identified at a later date.

We have quite a few really. People just havn't been joining in though. Part of the reasoning behind a switch to more continental songs was due to the success of Dale Cavese and then the new 'Cherry and white' song. I agree it might have gone slightly OTT but I promise you they will sound quality at a big game when everyone joins in. Recently people have not been joining in so we have just been making whatever noise we can.
You are welcome in S2 to start a song, people WILL join in.
