I felt sorry for Sam Tomkins actually. Too much expectation was placed on his shoulders given his relative inexperience at international level.

The next thing you know, he'll be finding reasons why he can't play in Test matches. But I don't suppose you know anyone who's taken that option, do you?

| I don't think sam Tomkins has had a very good tour so far but he's only a young kid and has all the tools to become a top player on the international stage and im pretty sure he will.
It shows how good he is when the aussies say he was our main threat. The aussies kick chase was awesome which didn't give tomkins the space he gets in super league.
A little off the subject here but i thought joel tomkins looked like a player well out of his depth. I know it was his first full game but i have serious doubts about him at that level. Only time will tell but i think he is great club player but won't be good enough at the top level.

He wasn't aggressive enough for me but for a young lad he was solid enough and did as much as one of our supposed NRL superstars in Gareth Ellis.
Joel got through 26 tackles with zero misses and made as many metres as guys like Ellis and Westwood yet I would agree he can play an awful lot better.
I think we should be pointing fingers of blame at guys like Ellis who did zilch in the 2 games or Sam Burgess who is an error machine rather then at less experienced players(at test level) trying to make their mark.

Im not pointing the blame at joel if my post come across that way.
He just didn't seem the same player that plays for wigan every week. I agree, he had no of his aggressive style he has in super league, he loked a little in awe of the aussies.

You may get close with Folau and Tuquiri before he went to Union, but pat's whole game would ensure none of the wingers you have mentioned would replace him.
Vatuvei-Big unit with good impact, poor mans volcano, nowhere near the skill set Pat has!
Tuquiri-Class act in his prime yes, best years behind him, not as good!
Hayne-Better at full back but Billy the kid is better than him so gets shoved on the wing and looks a shadow of the player he is when he's there! Not as good!
Folau-Great player, can kick and has a superb reading of the game..it would be a close call if he was still a Rugby League player!
Tuiaki-Had a great season in 2009, sadly a bad injury has plagued his career since and has stopped him reaching the heights Pat has! Not as good!
Wolfman Williams-Give over, he's a decent back but is nowhere near pat's skill set! Not as good!
Brett Morris-Quick and strong, not great under the high ball and once again nowhere near Pat's skill set! Not as good!

What so just because Pat plays in Super League that automatically makes him not as good as the others?
All the points Ziggy Stardust made were valid and the fact that you cant come up with a counter argument against them says it all!
Pat is class, so what if he's 'high on a season of success' the point is that Pat is the best winger NOW, no-one is saying he is the best ever winger to play RL, this year he has been nothing short of class in every aspect of a wingers game - speed, strength, power, skill, defence, catching high balls, scoring trys, saving trys. What more would you want from a winger?

First non of his points are valid. They are all point of view backed up with no evidence. his starting comment of saying Vatuvei is a poor mans big les is totally incorrect and says how bias this ziggy guy is and you are on the same hym sheet! Tuqiri has come back from ru and got back in the Aussie side, hayne is one of the most gifted winger fullbacks in the nrl at origin and test level. pat Richards is a good winger and had a great season. all those wingers are in the top class bracket in the best comp in the world gaining rep honours. I know you are all buzzing over your team after a great season but anyone with an ounce of rugby league knowledge would know Richards would have a tough task to dislodged any of those blokes from their club and rep jerseys.
who's the best? Who knows but anyone who with confidence thinks Richards is obviously better than those guys or for example thinks folau might be as good as Richards needs sectioning.

The same Richards that was the outstanding player in the NRL and scored one of the best tries in the Aussie Grand final, the current man of steel and leading points scorer, dual grand final winner? Or some of the players you quoted that could only dream of achieving that??

Richards was not the outstanding player in the nrl, he would have won the daly m and golden boot and got a game at origin and test level instead of Playing for Ireland.
If he scored a good try in 2005 good on him, it dont make him the best winger in the world in 2010
Plenty of men of steel and top points scores have not been the best player in the world in their position.
All those blokes who you think richards is head and shoulders better than are current origin and Aussie or kiwi internationals. something Richards can only dream about.
your arguments are weak and like a t-bag.
Richards is a good winger and was awesome in 2010 in sl. But your rant says nothing about how or way you think he is obviously head and shoulders the best winger in the world right now. Which in reality as an opinion is deluded.
For nearly half a season he wasn't even the best winger in your team.

Richards is a great kicker, a great leader and is so good under the high ball that teams don't even bother kicking to him on the last tackle. He has a great haircut and looked awesome with a cast on his leg whilst holding the Super League trophy aloft..

You are totally wrong. it's obvious. Richards is a good winger. But is no way head and shoulders better, to you he is clearly better. It is obvious he is not. All those guys are top wingers in the best comp in the world. most of those guys are marque players in that comp. Someone mentions Boyd who came second in the daly m and won players player in the best comp in the world, he is a origin and test winger and you think richards is better? That's how unrealidtic you are. Richards is good he had a great season in a good team. But if he was the best he would have a choice of nrl clubs a chance of origin and test honours, if that was an option or if he was that good he would be gone or it would have happens already. How can he be the best when he's not playing against the best at domestic or rep level.
If you are honest with yourself for nearly half of last season he wasn't even the best winger in your team. the evidence is all over this forum in the Amos worshiping threads.

Bit in bold made me laugh
Also I remember when Leeds fans were banging on about Donald being the best finisher in the league? He didnt seem like he was all that in the last game he played for Leeds?
Richards has been the complete player this season and has more strings to his bow then some of the other wingers mentioned. For me he has been the most valuable player this year and that is why he is regarded as one of the best wingers in RL. You bang on all you like about other players but stats show this season Richards has been one of the best wingers in RL.
