| Quote ="bigtruck"I like SF I really do but I'm always a little sceptical with players who become a hell of a lot better in the season their contract runs out. Maybe we'll see the majority of players out of contract actually leave giving MM and IL a nice big wedge to recruit his own players? If Bailey, Feka, Phelps, Fielden, Riddell, Deacon and Pryce all left (with only really Fielden/Riddell being constant first teamers) it would leave a huge chunk of wages to attract players with. ( I know Lima etc have joined up but IMO those 3 probably replace Bailey, Feka and Riddell's wages leaving a substantial amount still to play with)'"
Well you have to be able to find quality players to replace those leaving which is easier said than done. At the moment none of our existing younger props are as good as Fielden and I don't see any realistic rumours linking us with any other top class props. If he goes and we don't replace him we will be weaker and will be back to calling for another experienced prop to be recruited - as we have been doing since 2007.
As to Fielden improving because it's his last year Coley did exactly the same and has got a new deal. I think the improvement in Fielden can be put at the coaching staffs door as it can with basically the entire team! His improved form like that of many of the other players is why we are top of the league and not going into the playoffs from 6th. I think it's too much of a coincidence to put his form down to it being in the last year of his deal when the team as a whole has improved so much.

Apart from Fielden, none of those players are anywhere near good enough to get into our current squad.
There's not one player there that I regret releasing.

| Got to trust the men in charge here. If they don't feel Fielden is worth a two year deal then so be it.

No fair point, and I think its the lack of available quality and the inexperienced youth that has seen us, apparently, offer SF just the 1 year. Coley getting his contract makes me think MM/IL aren't overly bothered about whether SF signs or not. They're not going to push the boat out to sign him and rightly so. If there was an international prop available then I think you'd have seen SF announced at another club already.

| Stu has been one of our best & most consistent performers this season and as ever he's run the front more or less single handedly. With having the luxury of some hitters coming in next year with,Lima,Super Gaz Hock plus HH stepping it up a bit then theres Preckie,O'c Stu could be more relaxed and with current form remain or go on to be one of the best props in the comp. He's gotta be signed. PLEASE dont go Stu,I love you ( ) GET HIM signed Mr L........ now.

| I also think we should offer Fielden a contract, he has got his confidance back, is enjoying his games and playing well, I also think we have done so well this season because we have had a settled squad.( besides the obvious reason) We will be letting at least 3 or 4 players go , we dont want to upset the run of things too much by getting rid of too many at once as we have done in the past. Fielden has earned at least a Carmont type contract.

Raynors money comes into effect next season as we had to pay him off..also Calderwoods,Halls,Cusacks and possibly Dowes and Radford as well...we have brought Sharp in from Quins and doubt he will be on a wedge plus we have £50,000 of Hornes contract to use because of the 10yr rule...

| Wigan have offered Stu a one year deal with an option for 2012 in the clubs favour. Same contract as Coley and Carmont were given last year . Stu wants 2 years and more money apparantly. You cant blame a player for wanting more time/money however no one is irreplaceable.

I really hope this isn't true to be honest. We've thrown huge amounts of money at Fielden in what was described at the time as a life changing contract. Would anybody say we've had our moneys worth for the FULL four years, I wouldn't. If he wants to stay, it should be on our terms this time. Like I said earlier in the thread I really think we should be keeping him, but it has to be on our terms.

| Surely all this is about negotiations?
Wigan have offered Stu Fielden a deal with the terms written in it.
He has asked for more than he's been offered.
His agent has offered his services around to see if there are clubs who will better Wigan's deal.
The agent has received offers which may well offer him say slightly more money but with a confirmed 2 years rather than a 1 + 1 which it is rumoured Wigan have offered. As yet we are not aware SF has re-signed with us or signed with another club. Negotiations are continuing we would deduce.
Fielden is an intelligent man who has put a lot of work in at Wigan. MM reckons him as one of the most professional players he's come across.
So what does he do?
He knows Wigan are on the verge of something big and long lasting with MM as coach and IL chairman.
Hull have reputedly offered him a good deal. Where would you rather be though?
At Wigan with what's happening here under IL & MM's leadership or at Hull with Kath Hetherington and Agar as coach.
Hull are a great club with superb support and facilities but it's run by Rugby League's version of Mork and Mindy! They are going nowhere, whereas Wigan are going places and Stuart Fielden will know the difference.
All he is trying to do is negotiate the best deal he can get for as long a term as he can get. Can't blame him for that.
My bet is on him staying!

| If we were offered the chance to continue working with our current employers, but they were going to reduce our money, how happy would we be? I don't know anyone who would look for a new job and take one for less money, meaning the mortgage doesn't get paid or we can't buy the missus a new car. Financially he needs to try and get the best deal he can. But is silverware more important to him?
