| Quote ="FearTheVee"Could well be right fella, Wane has certainly done a good job with the young players and Maguire has been successful and worked under a top coach at Melbourne.
But then again, Maguire won't have Inglis/Slater/Smith etc at Wigan and will be under a lot of pressure as a head coach.
Interesting times - looks like there could be 4 or 5 genuinely strong sides next year in Saints/Leeds/Wigan/Wire/Hull.'"

Im sure those rules were put in place, seems bizzare really because in theory it means the Raper's & Millwards wouldn't get a gig over here again.
But if the RFL will do dispensation, whats the point in the rule.
Id be keen to know what the dispensation was given for.

Same story on Sporting Life, just running the PA story it would seem. Hopefully the club will have some quotes from MM, or we will need to wait for them to filter through from Aus.

There aren't many world class players in SL full stop. People need a reality check here. Yes the current Wigan side is way off the legendary sides of the early 90s but so is every other team in SL. In fact SL has gone backwards in the last few years.
We have some young players with the potential to be truly world class however and I would expect that a coach with Maguire's reputation will develop them.
The current Wigan side has been shockingly inconsistent but has proved that it is close to Leeds and Saints already. If all he does is make us more consistent and raise Wigan's questionable standards of fitness to something close to Melbourne's then that should be enough to allow the current side to beat Saints and Leeds more often that not.

It could also be said that losses against
Cas
Wakey
Celtic
Hudds x 2
Warrington
Hull KR
have prevented us from being a top team. You cannot have a list of losses like that all season and expect to win things. Our run to the challenge cup semi was pretty easy by many standards and previous years.

It's not a case of that at all.
We’ve just made a massive coup in getting him as our coach for next season. Maguire was being linked with some of the top jobs in the NRL as well as being endorsed by some of its most respected coaches and all you are bothered about is the website not being updated??

Not the impression you give off.
And im delighted, perhaps id like the website to be on the ball in line with the annoucement so I could read more about it? They were quick enough to upload the statement about Noble leaving.

McQuire will be treated exactly the same way as Noble was and judged on his results. Even if you don't want to beleive ir that is all that ever happened to Noble and I am sure regardless of if people were pro or anti Noble they will comment on McQuire's performance and record as it develops.

There was no risk-free appointment to be made and this is could be a great move but it may not be but that is stating the obvious. Until we find out he will I am sure get the support of all but the most blinkered fans such as those who think all overseas coaches are a bad thing for example.

It's a bold step by IL in my opinion. We needed something different than Noble so who would you suggest and why if not Mike McQuire? Wane? Lam?

He'll get a clean sheet at the end of next season. Loads of players, some high earners, are off contract.
Andy Coley
Cameron Phelps
Karl Pryce
Darrell Goulding
Harrison Hansen
Mike McIlorum
Lee Mossop
Paul Prescott
Iafeta Paleaaesina
Stuart Fielden
And maybe Bailey and Carmont if they resign for 12 months

People made up alot of things as regards to how Noble picked the team which IMO was unfair, he could do no right with his decision making. I see no other teams fans give their coach the same stick as much as what the majority did to Noble, it wasn't just about results.
IMO none of the 3, although if Maguire is the best that was available then so be it but all I'm saying is I'm not convinced as all he's ever been is an assistant coach. I hope he proves me wrong but I think people are getting excited just because it's something new without knowing anything about the mans record.
