Could they not play it before the National League Grand Final? That would be on a nuetral venue and would be played infront of a good crowd for the young lads. It would also ensure a bigger crowd for the national league game if a few fans of the two u21 sides went along.'"
Think all 3 should be played at Old Trafford on the same day or at least the reserves should be played there just before the GF

Good idea, the 18's would probably be to much but the reserve game would be excellent, the only thing would be whether the old Trafford management would allow two games to be played in fear of ruing the pitch, great idea though and something I'd certainly like to see happen.

Not a chance Fergie would allow more then 1 game on his beloved pitch but it would be great.

The reserves were magnificent today. How tough are those lads? They really got stuck in to bigger but slower opponents. I can't praise them highly enough. They deserve 5,000 watching them.

| John Walker and Ben Davies were nothing short of superb.
Ben Davies takes up more drives than James Graham and Walker tackles everything that moves.

Prescott
O'Carroll
Mossop
Davies
Farrell
Lockers
Hansen
Tomkins
Flanagan
Tuson
Thornley
Ainscough
Hock
S Tomkins
Goulding
McIlorum
All players who have come through the Academy who could be in the team for years to come.
Most of these guys have played in the first team last year or this year!
Ben Davies I think will be better than O'Carroll, not sure about him being the next Graham though.

Match Report now up.
Link: wigan.rlfans.com/news.php?readmore=750
I made it 45 First team Appearances this season in the Saints Line up today against just 9 minutes first team experience in the Wigan side.
Which shows what a big effort it was.
Well done boys!
Not 100% on the scorers btw. Can anyone confirm the last Wigan try scorer? He got buried so didn't see.

It's still a young side to hard to say. I like the winger Josh Charnley. Always scores when I go to watch them. Centre Ian Thornley as well is a big strong centre. Both of those still qualify for the Under 18s though.
Prop Ben Davies looks one for the future as well.
Liam Farrell has been probably nearest to the first team who've yet to get the chance but sadly he got injured last month. A shame for him because I think he'd have played at Hudds tomorrow.
Overall five years ago we were producing some good players but I'd say we look to have much better prospects these days and I think having a superb training complex like Orrell plays a big part in that. To win today with the experience St Helens had in there side shows that.

Josh Charnley, Ian Thornley, Stefan Marsh, Ryan King,
Joe Mellor, Johnny Malloy, Jack Murphy, all played yesterday and are still qualified for this years U18 academy.
Josh Charnley IMO is the most improved player in the club.
I would certainly add him, Marsh and Mellor into the accelerator squad next.

| Saints' Haggerty also played a handful of first team games for Leigh on loan last season. Great result for Wigan against a strong (names on paper) Saints side.
I fancy them to win whoever the play in the final, although it should be another tough battle. I think Wigan have alot of talent in that side, which will come through to play first team, obviously some older ones may get a chance sooner rather than later like Davies. Mellor does look very impressive though at both 18s and reserves level, that's all you can ask for a consistent performer.

| I went to my first ever reserves game yesterday, thought I might toddle along, nice day, nothing better to do, took my little'un. Have to say the quality of rugby on show was outstanding, despite Wigan fielding a weakened team, the class of the players clearly showed through - as it also did for a very good saints side albeit with quite a few first team regulars in there.
To be honest I enjoyed it more than some of the games at the JJB this season.
If this is what our youth development policy is churning out, the future looks bright. Question is how do we fit them all into the first team squad?

Apologies your right, but Dixon has.
Here's a question for you.
Bradford beat Wire academy today.
James Donaldson played for Bradford at Hull on Friday, and he played for Bradford academy today.
Now that I don't understand.
A player is not allowed to play for the U18 academy and reserves on the same weekend.
So how come a player can play Superleague and U18 academy on the same weekend.
Also Jay Pitts played for Leeds at Salford on Friday and played for Leeds reserves v Bradford reserves in their elimination semi final on Saturday.
It can't be right can it?

| Blimey league express claims Josh Veivers scored the winner which I originally put but changed to Jack Hughes because the official site and RFL said otherwise but probably got their info from the same source.
So not a clue who scored the winner!

| Right a respectable gentleman has informed me Veivers got the winning try. The confusion I got is that Gerry Bridge was on the team sheet instead of Jack Hughes and because of that I put Bridge down as a scorer earlier when it was Hughes. Is that clear?
