Yes I did - Bailey, Hock and O'Loughlin - were all first choice, none played this evening. Not an excuse for losing, just a fact. As it happens I thought Mossop, Flanagan and Hansen all played extremely well in replacement - J Tomkins not so much this evening, but will let him off after his performance against Leeds.

No he’s not a hard player he’s a cheap shot merchant who has been hyped up beyond all proportions by Saints fans and the media. Mossop and Hansen are better than Bailey. However it does show that Wigan have strong strength in depth in the back row and beyond.

Can't agree with you - dislike Saints as much as any Wigan fan, but can remain objective in my assessment of players and Cunningham has been an extremely good player for more than a decade.
One of the major reasons why Saints have been so successful in the SL era.
Have nothing but respect for him as a player - just wish he didn't wear the red vee.

That isn’t the basis of a great RL player imo due to the fact that SL isn’t as good of a standard as what people say it is.
Cunningham has never won the MOS award. He’s never done the business for GB EVER. He’s faked injury as well as brought our great game in disrepute but yet some Saints fans call him a ‘legend of the game’ on par with the likes of Hanley and Boston.
He's a good if not very good SL player but yet the likes of Lowes and Withers also were but in the likes of a Darren Lockeyer, Farrell, Jones, Mal Meninga, Buderus, Dayley & Sterling he’s not even close to the top tier of RL's great players

| Cunningham has always been a niggling player, never throws a punch but sucks the opposition in with sly digs and little rough plays in the tackle.
Regards Tomkins, what did he do wrong?
Hit a man in the tackle who the ref had not called held?
Nothing wrong with the challenge at all, it was not a cheap shot it was a pro player making a play for his team to complete the tackle.

I think its fair to say that he is a St. Helens legend and in my view given the names of the Saints players that have won the MOS (and in some cases shouldn't have), I think it is a travesty that Cunningham has not been rewarded over that period. Especially since its seems to have been a given that a Saints player gets it every year regardless. In my view its because he has been so consistently good over the years, that he hasn't been singled out for the award - other players that have more peaks and troughs of form become more lauded by the media (i.e, Roby).
I'm getting a bit tired of defending a Saints player on here, but feel objectivity is a must - for Cunninghams real value as a player - look what year he made his debut, then look at Saints upturn in fortunes and period of sustained success. He is the common denominator in all those teams and it is stupidity to claim he is anything but a domestic RL great.

| Just watched the replay of the incident and the ref never called held.
He blew the whisltle and shouted turnover when Tomkins brought Cunningham to the ground with a totally legal tackle.
Not a clue what Cunninghams problem was at all

well he does never throw a punch and is always putting in sly digs, so not sure what your point is.
Why not put together a valid response and gain a modicum of credibility.
Or even better watch the lad when he is in the oppositions ear, giving a sly facial or as i have seen on giving them a sly "grope".
If your eye is not educated enough to see it fair enough i guess.

There was no problem at all. Tomkins made a good legal play bringing an attacking threat to the ground and getting the turnover.

I like Cunningham tbh and think he plays the game mainly in an honest way but i didn't have a clue what his problem was with that incident.
It got blown out of all proportion because of who he is.

I think it was due to the fact that Cunningham was held up and stopped in the tackle (but hadn't been called held by the ref) and then Tomkins has come in from the side directly on to the knee. Whether this was intentional or not is another matter, but the tackle was in all but the refs mind effected, and could be construed as a malicious attempt to injure someone.
If this had been a Saints player on a Wigan player I'd be saying the same thing. Coming in from the side on a stationary player directly attacking the knees is out of order. Has the potential to cause some serious long term damage.

It has the potential to put a player to ground in a live tackle. That is what it was, it was good technique to take a man to ground who was still an attacking threat.
Cunningham is not the ref he can or cannot decide when he is tackled, a player like him while the ball is live is always a threat. Sam legally sorted that threat out nothing more nothing less. Personally i would have been disgusted had he not completed the tackle.

The tackle hadn't been called held so the potential was there for Cunningham to get the ball away. Tomkins recognised that and went for a quick take down to stop him doing so.
Perfectly legal and above board.
If Cunningham had a problem with that i'm suprised he's lasted this long at the very top of the game.

| Obviously I was disapointed not to win but I was pleased that we are now one of the two best teams in superleague after the last couple of weeks... I think we are a better team than leeds and can now match(i thought a draw was a fair result) saints and beat them on our day!! we needed roberts and joel to keep hold of the ball a bit better and I think we would have won last night... that and sean O'l in the side... I think the one thing we can now say, which we havent been able to for a good few years is that we are not scared of anyone and will beat anyone on our day....
After the last few months improvement I am predicting at least one trophy this year, whether its the CC or Grand Final, I don't now... but I am confident that we can win one..

Maybe 16-6 but not 16-0 as gilmour dropped it near to the end... if you want to get picky...
The fact that most of saints fans have no finger nails this morning just shows what a competitive match it was... Therefore justifying my opinion that we are now one of the best two teams in superleague... after convincingly beating leeds last week...
