I'm bringing an old uni mate (originally from Bournemouth) to his first ever game of RL Friday. He's got into it from watching the Friday night matches on SKY. Friday hopefully will be the clincher in turning him into a full blown Wigan fan...

Mick Hogan has just told BBC Radio Merseyside that the club have now past 17,000 pre sales for this match guaranteeing to beat the SL Crowd record for a home Wigan v Leeds match (which was 17,281 in 2006).

This before taking into account any kind of crowd from Leeds (who get the same £10 adults/£5 concessions).

Over 17,500 tickets now sold for the game according to Mick Hogan.

I would imagine the amount sold would include Leeds tickets but I will stand corrected if you are sure.

Is it £10 on the night or only if you buy in advance?

I'd imagine most Leeds fans will buy on the night. Unreserved seating and usually plenty of space in the away stand when they visit. Deffo 2 or 3 thousand walk up on the night from Wigan & Leeds fans I'd reckon.

Brilliant should be a fantastic atmosphere. Been a bit dull as of recent weeks so let's try and change that this week.

Looks like this is gathering momentum rather quickly. I need to get a couple of tickets for friends and was going to leave it later in the week before I went down to the ticket office. I think I should go as quickly as I can.

Hope the team can make it worth while for the fans. When was the last time we won watched a 20K+ crowd? Was it back end of the season a couple of years ago against Saints?

I think it shows the latent support the club has in the town and if we can get a consistent, exciting and winning team our average attendances may well get close to ILs target of 20K.

Can't wait for that to happen

Wigan Warriors play Leeds this Friday in what has been described as "The big ONE".. Its a great chance at only £10 for adults and £5 for children to take in this great event between two of the biggest sides in the game. It promises to be a classic.... you can walk up on Friday evening, kick off 8pm or get your tickets at the wigan ticket office.... Miss it... Miss out!!!! If you want any more info... just ask..

I am a believer that it is very difficult for your average "joe bloggs" on the street to actually decide to attend a sporting occasion if they have previously never been, whether its rugby, football, cricket etc etc... I think if Friday fulfills its potential match wise... I am sure that a few may become fully fledged supporters and boost the attendance figures in the future... Maybe this would have been a good time to anounce a special "end of season" ticket price for the remaining games two games, like the two games for £25 wakefield were doing V's Wigan.. therefore giving these new speccys an oportunity to get more games under their belt and probably achieve a better conversion rate to regular supporters, especially as these fixtures are against warrington and hull respectively.

Just tried to get my daughter a ticket in the South Stand & the website came back with an error, even though it's showing as tickets available. Does anybody know whether the SS has sold out - or is it just the site playing up??

The ticketing service on the web is not ultra reliable - I would give the ticket office a ring in the morning to find out.

Still some left for the South - if you're having problems with the online service then the best way to check immediately is to go on 'My Account' and then 'View Booking History' to see if your purchase has gone through or not

I think this is a massive result for the game in general. Wigan, one of the best supported teams in the league are not resting on their Laurels, but instead, doing all they can to fill their ground. I will have a pop at the Goods for many things, but this is to be applauded and regardless of who is in charge of the Marketing, this all points to IL trying to get his home town team back to the top of the pile. I only wish he hadn't totally abandoned us in London (apart from his cash) and had kept a certain amount of "hands on activity" going....we might be trying stuff like this as well.
