| Personally I agree with what several others have said about this.
It doesn't alter the situation with regard to preferential treatment over use of the stadium. Where any clash occurs Latics will always get the nod as long as they are in the premiership as it simply brings in more money for the stadium owners no matter who they are.
In the long run Latics will at some point be relegated from the premiership as they despite Whelan wishing it otherwise are not held in high regard in football. They will not attract another rich owner as they are not a big name and are surrounded by clubs that are a much better prospect for prolonged success than they are due to their comparitively poor fan base even against some football league clubs.
Relegation when it comes will spell the end of Latics in the top flight as many of the people that now watch them will stop going and crowds will drop to the 7000 and lower levels that they had when in the championship. This will not allow them to build and retain a squad that could get them back up. They can't hold on to players now after five top flight seasons and with Whelan holding the purse. When this does happen then they will be more in need of the income from Wigan RLFC (which will likely be equal to or better than their own) and so will be more willing to compromise on fixture clashes.
Also with a third party owner such as a private company or council there is always the danger of them selling the site under the tenants noses and leaving them homeless if needing the cash. At least with either of the clubs owning the stadium they are unlikely to boot themselves out to build houses so aslong as relations are good you have somewhere to play. Lets face it Edge Hall Road isn't up to standard.

One problem
The asking price is nearly a million quid.

I think several acres of land in the desirable area of Orrell is hardly 'asset poor' is it?

To be fair, all businesses need to borrow money from time to time.

But as none of us ever will, it's pointless to speculate on it.
Though I appreciate that this also means people from St Helens can constantly raise the possibility that Wigan have negotiated a very poor lease for themselves.
Keep hoping, boys.

I hope exactly the opposite, I have no desire to see Wigan stiffed over their ground. In fact, I wish Whelan had given it to you and the Latics were renting it.

It was meant in the context of "capital" that the Chair Maker mentioned. Capital borrowings are very different from having an overdraft facility.

Good post.
This clown is a prime example of supporters who hate Wigan more than they love their own club.

The post from me wasnt anti Wigan i was raising IMO very valid points.
You may stick your head in the sand and go lalala, but this deal is bad news for RL as a whole.
Where for example are we going to play international matches west of the pennines if the DW stadium is off bounds?
What happens if Wigan Athletic get into financial difficulties, say following relegation? They may sell the stadium to a developer. A developer who may see the whole site as prime for housing or commercial development.
There are lots of ifs buts and maybe's around this whole affair, and Wigan fans should be deeply concerned.

Orrell is probably worth more than the JJB in terms of land values as well. Which is the only thing sporting clubs can really get from their assets if they have to trade them in.

| The JJB/DW was never our spiritual home anyway so it doesn't matter to me who owns it. If the club had a nomadic existence and played games at various localities I'd still love it with a passion. It's the concept of Wigan Rugby League Football Club that I love. It's very name, not the present incumbents of the jersey or the souless stadium we play out of.
Where the club goes we follow.

That was the only (wrong) fact in the post. All the rest of it was pure opinion.
Like I say, you're opinion whether right or wrong has no credibility.
You dug your grave, now lie in it.

There are lots of ifs surrounding your future stadium, but it's of less importance to us than the future of our own club. A pity you don't reflect that view.
As others have said, your sign-ons don't give you much status on this forum. Wasn't non-racist St Helens the home of fans who greeted Henderson Gill and Ellery Hanley by chucking bananas onto the pitch?
You're a pathetic joke, whose opinion is worth nothing.

| Couple of things trouble me about this and I'm happy to admit I've a foot in both camps.
The "giving" of the stadium to Latics just doesn't sit well with me. He's not made his money giving away assets worth millions of pounds, plus as others have pointed out it wasn't that long ago he was going to entrust it to the people of Wigan.
My hunch would be the football club, 5 years into life in the Premier League with its own stadium is a lot easier to sell than one that is mearly a tennent with no asset other than the far from secure Premier League status. It was rumoured pre-credit crunch Hyundi were on the verge of investing, around the same time Cho signed, co-incidence, maybe.
But my worry here is that as last season showed regardless of the lease life could be made very uncomfortable for the rugby especially if the decisions are made by people with no regard, respect or knowledge of our heritage.
