So IL dips into his pocket once more then ala Gleeson, contracts don't mean much if IL does what he stated when he said he will pay big money for the right players and Dobson certainly fits that criteria.

It's not that simple, if we release Riddell he's still on the cap. Someone would have to sign him. Aside from that I can't name one aussie signing that people haven't claimed would leave due to feeling homesick.

Salary cap

We release Smith, Riddell to easily cover his wage.

We will have plenty room if Bailey, Smith, Coley leave.

Personally I couldn't stomach it if we signed Long just like I couldn't stomach it when we signed Millward. I'm not one of these people who can hate someone so much for such a long period of time and then just forget it all overnight.

Great player, even though he is getting on a bit, he's still one of the best but I'd rather do without.

It is simpler than you think. Unless he has a cast iron contract that says if we release him early we must pay him all his wages for the full three years, all that goes on the cap is however much we pay him off with. And that figure would be spread proportionately over the three years of his contract. Those are the RFL rules.

So if he left now with a £90K pay off that would be about £15K for the rest of this season and £37.5K for 2010 and 2011 on our cap. Not as much as you might think.

If he asks for a release as opposed to Wigan wanting to get rid then I can't see why Wigan would agree to a pay off of that magnitude anyway as Wigan would be granting his wish to leave. They would be doing him a favour and as with any player who really wants out (if he does of course) then they aren't in a great bargaining position to be demanding huge pay off's.

Does anybody think that Sean Long may struggle at Wigan.

There is no questioning he isn't as good as he was a few years ago but still a good player. However he wouldn't have the dominant pack he has at Saints at Wigan. He also wouldn't have the runners he has at Saints as well.
