There are some outstanding players in Super League at the moment. James Graham is one of the best prop forwards I have ever seen insofar as an all-round game is concerned, and in people like McGuire, Gidley, Burrows, Long, and Pryce there are players that would compare equally as well with any of the games greats of old.
What you mean is that because you are seeing dross in a Wigan shirt, the game must be poor. Wake up. The game has moved on from your one good period at the end of the eighties. Isn't it a about time you did?
Ancient? Yes, in that you live in the past. Loyal? Not much evidence of that.'"
Graham- class forward
McGuire-Average
Gidley-Class in superleague, was washed up in Australia
Burrow-Average
Pryce-Average
Long-has been class and will go down as a modern great(as much as it hurts to say).
Average league with a smattering of quality players in it.
Out of interest who do you think is the best scrum half in superleague? IMO it's Michael Dobson who struggled to hold down a regular place in an NRL side..............go and figure that one out.

I quite agree, Wigan are boring but that comes from the coach.

If we are to kick on as a sport we need to have our superstar teams like Wigan, St Helens, Leeds etc and not drag us down because we will implode in time. What happens if Wigan, St Helens and Leeds suddenly turn crap?
'"
Wigan have been crap for years. It didnt happen suddenly its like a slow painful death that the rest of super league enjoy.
Quote ="post"Last few years I have not watched the NL due to it being boring and not as good as superleague, same with NRL but now I would prefer to watch NL or NRL.'"
Expect another on the turnstyle at leigh then
Quote ="post" Im not saying let us win everything again just let us spend what we earn, reward success on and off the field!!!!!'"
You fibber - you do want us to let you win everything admit it.
Even if they took the cap away now Hull KR, Leeds and the Wire to name 3 have far more financial muscle than Wigan now.
And if the stadium dodgers like ourselves ever do get a new ground to boost our earnings where would that leave wigan?
The cap is a good thing for wigan, it will allow you to continue to compete when you sort out your coach, current bulk buying of the cheap and mediocre/aging "stars" and continue to promote from within with a sprinkling of world class talent.
Wigan have arguably the best patch for new players.
But can you wait 4 or 5 years?

Graham: Nothing more than a cart-horse. No speed or skill.
McGuire: What does he create? He's a finisher, thats about it.
Gidley: Another ex-Aussie. Yes he has skill, does he create anything spontaneous or just do a centre's job?
Burrows: Just small...? What did he do in the WC? Speed is his only adv.
Long: What a joke, scrum halves of old would laugh at him. On the same level as Lam, Robbie Paul, Brett Kenny, Shaun Edwards? I think not.
Pryce: Doesnt have a position. Says it all. He has a good sidestep. Can't kick, can't tackle. Crap against Aussies. Yes - superb player.

Most pathetic analysis ever.
Funny how the Long and Pryce combination was employed once against the Aussies and took them apart in there own back yard. Long is a modern day great and Gidley is one of the most skilful and smart rugby league players you will ever wish to see.

Oh, the the oft trotted out lines about arrogance. Surprised you didn't mention the Wigan walk, salary cap, or Maurice Lindsay
And it's Burrow by the way, not bloody Burrows. Jeez, are you Jonathan Davies?
This thread is about RL being currently boring at SL level.
If the game has moved on so much since the eighties, how come the current UK superstars you mention above are seen as a joke by the Aussies and were recently taken to the cleaners by them?

Gidley was struggling in the NRL before he came here but because this leagues average he has settled in nicely.
Long is a modern day great as i've already posted but Pryce is nothing more then a fancy dan runner that goes missing when the big games come around.
Super League is at it's poorest ever point imo but Saints fans won't admit it until they're on the way down and the smaller clubs won't admit it whilst they're getting a few more wins then before yet bog all to show for it.
It will get better though imo aslong as clubs stick to the quota rules and get plenty of yongsters through their systems...........something that Wigan, Saints, Leeds, Cas etc can't be accused of not doing.

Although I would prefer Wakey to be where you are, well done on KR for rocking the established order. If Wigan fans are leaving Super League in droves, perhaps the loyal part of the badge should be deleted. The rest of rugby league at the end of the eighties and early nineties was dire, because it was filled by part-time players. It is the best it is has ever been at the moment. I don't hear the same rumblings from other clubs.
No problem with the Wigan club as an organisation, and a big nod to the genuine fans. Unfortunately, many of the fans are being exposed for what they are, glory hunters, who aren't prepared to see out the thin in readiness for the thick, and who don't realise that rugby league happens outside of the Wigan town boundaries.

I think the standard is poor at the minute but would never ever stop watching the sport.
It's still the greatest sport on earth yet could be so much better(over here).
Like i say if clubs stick to the quota rules and get plenty of youngsters through it'll improve but belive me it has to.

Patronising drivel
Reality is Wigan are pegged back as a club due to the CC.
It's unnatural and pathetic (and more likely than not illegal).
Take it away and we will see how the "natural order" of RL pans out.
All this BS about a "level playing field" and "how good it is to see a "competitive" competition" is cringeworthy.
The sooner this sport realises that there are big clubs, small clubs, and clubs in the middle, the sooner we can improve the product on the field.

Name me a better prop than Graham in the British game. Peacock comes nearest, but as he does't play for you, I expect he doesn't count. Compare to the NRL by all means, but Wigan's one good period of history, upon which all of this support is based, is based upon British victories against part-time players when the most important asset was a cheque book.

| Just been watching videos of old Wigan tries on youtube and it makes me sad to think how goo we were back then and how poor we are now. What the videos also showed was how much more individual skill there was knocking around back then. Certain plavers with pace, some with pinpoint passing accuracy and others with the sheer strength. Hardly anything like that nowdays, Rugby League is lacking indivisualism and teamwork going hand in hand.
